Autumn in Japan 2018: Full Day in Sapporo

When my sister Cea (the youngest) and I planned a trip to Japan by end of this year, specifically in its northernmost and coldest part called HOKKAIDO, we weren't thinking of movie locations (Kita Kita in Sapporo) or that we're in for dairies overload. We wanted to see more of the snow haha.

Cea said the last time she experienced winter was during our first--in the States during our holiday vacation back in 2013-2014. She picked the dates because she's the one who has to take office leaves, and the rest were all in my hands. I haven't been to this side of Japan, and there weren't much written stuff about Sapporo or Hokkaido in my favorite travel blogs, so it made me nervous to plan everything. But it also meant I am in for another ride!

I love planning for a trip because I guess it made me more immersed in the place we're going to. I super enjoyed my Europe trip with Ate, but since I just went along with her plans I am a bit zero when it comes to info or planning. I have nothing much to share!! But with my Korea trips and this one for Japan, I am excited to blog about them right away! And so after another typical long intro,  let me go to the nitty gritty of our autumn trip to Hokkaido and hope I get to cover everything before your own trips!

HOW TO GO TO HOKKAIDO

There are several transportations that you can take to get to Hokkaido. It turns out, Hokkaido is a large island and Sapporo is just a part of it (also its capital and largest city). Sorry hindi ko alam ito before, haha! Sapporo is also where their international airport is located.

Direct Flights from Manila to Sapporo

There are airlines that has direct flights from Manila to Sapporo's New Chitose International Airport. I guess this is the more convenient transportation option, but also a little bit pricier. This is okay with me, but I guess I still wanted to see my favorite city Tokyo for this trip. I checked Sky Scanner now and only Philippine Airlines (PAL) has direct flights for January at about Php 36,000+ round trip.

Connecting Flights

I checked Sky Scanner and saw that Jetstar has NAIA to New Chitose flights, but with a transfer from Narita Airport. Price is about Php 26,000-Php30,000 round trip. Jeju Air also offers same destination at same estimated cost, but stopover is in Incheon International Airport.

When we first booked for our round trip Narita flights, our plan was to take the bullet train to Hokkaido but had change of plans after not acquiring a JR Pass. Cea and I also decided that 8-hour train rides can be torture and tedious for us Titas hehe, so we just booked another plane ticket for the same day as our arrival to Narita Airport. Airfare is aboutPhp 10,000 including 30 Kilos luggage allowance (since it's winter time, and yes, in case of shopping LOL). We took Vanilla Air, a low-cost airline in Japan, owned by ANA, for the first time. We also headed back to Narita via same airline, and stayed in Tokyo for about 3 more nights.

By Land (Train or Bus)

And lastly, our original plan, in Japan we can always take the train aka the Shinkansen. I've tried this before with my Ate when we had Osaka-Kyoto then Tokyo route. I also tried a sleeper bus with my friends back in 2017 for same route. I like both of these mode of transportations, and each has its own perks and downside.

When you take a bus, travel is longer but it's more matipid in a way that you don't have to book a hotel na for that night. There are no baggage weight constraints too, compared to airline's stricter policies.

Meanwhile, you can also take the JR Tohoku / Hokkaido Shinkansen from Tokyo. Price is about 27,000 Yen and still mahal for me, but when you get a JR Pass at about Php13,000 (7 day unli JR train pass) that you can use for other trains for the rest of the trip I guess sulit naman sya. But you have to be strategic with your routes para mas magamit sya.

I haven't tried JR Pass ever, so I have nothing much to say about it. Maybe I'll get one on my next trips when I plan a longer stay, and mas iikutin ko pa lalo ang Japan.

Anyway, photos from our trip!

After about 4 hours on the plane, Cea and I finally arrived in Narita International Airport and still have time to spare for late lunch before our check-in again for our domestic flight. We transferred from Terminal 2 to Terminal 3 via a free bus shuttle. There are restos in Terminal 3 where we had our first meal in Japan:

I remembered being in this airport in 2017 when we took Jetstar! Anyway, this is also the airport for Vanilla Air's domestic flights. We were early for our check-in because like any typical Pinoy during flights #praning. Haha! The counters opened about 1.5 hours before departure.

It was another 1 hour and 45 minutes flight, but Cea just slept the whole time. I distracted my self by listening to my Korean playlist, or reading the in-house magazine in front of me. The flight felt longer than it should be, but we were tired narin talaga. I cannot imagine if tinuloy 8-hour train namin ito!

When the pilot announced our final descent, I looked outside the 5:20pm sky and it was already pitch black. It still surprised me, haha! Hello mid-autumn Japan!

We were tired and hungry travellers, so Cea and I decided to stay in the airport for dinner and strolling before riding another long bus ride to the city center. New Chitose International Airport has a lot to offer! Sayang we weren't able to dedicate more time here, ang daming stuff that you can try just in this airport.

We had decent dinner in a random Japanese restaurant. That onigiri (triangle rice) has CHEESE inside, sarap!

Then Cea and I went to the New Chitose stores recommended by her friends. They have a Calbee store, Royce, Le Tao, etc. Must-try daw are the ice cream, the melon, corn, Le Tao goodies, and all the other dairies! They even suggested that we get Hokkaido BUTTER from a grocery, haha! Yun lang ata di namin natry, but the rest check!

We weren't able to buy here, but I tried the corn and melon while we were in Otaru. Masarap!

We tried Le Tao in the airport cafe during our flight back to Tokyo:

Since we just had heavy dinner, we decided to just have dessert aka ice cream! We picked this indie looking ice cream shop called Jersey Brown. They serve all sorts of ice cream, but happy na kami ni Cea sa Milky soft-served ice cream in a cone. The best!!

Cea said the seller is also a nice old lady who allowed her to take photos of the store, hehe!

After we satisfied our tummies, it's time to take ANOTHER 1.5 hours bus ride to our hotel. We just asked the information counter for our bus, paid via a vendo machine (1030 Yen), then looked for the bus number. Make sure to keep all the tickets and whatnots they give you (luggage number yun). Cea almost lost hers haha (antok pa!), but they waited naman before the bus moved.

WHERE TO STAY WE STAYED IN SAPPORO

Again, there are different ways that you can explore Hokkaido. You can stay in its different cities for a night or every two nights, or just stay in Sapporo and take day trips.

I cancelled a lot of hotel and hostel options during my planning stage, so thank God for:

1) Agoda's FREE cancellation policies 😂
2) Friends who reply to your Facebook crowdsourcing posts!

Minsan may nabook ako na mura nga, but ang layo layo pala sa city center. Another time during planning, I booked iba ibang hotels pa around Hokkaido but naisip ko na sobrang lagari to always check-out and transfer nanaman sa isang hotel with our huge bags and limited time. It's just a short trip anyway so okay na yung one hotel and just maximize wherever we can go.

UNIZO INN SAPPORO

I decided to push my booking in Unizo Inn Sapporo. I am sure there are a lot of other hotels and hostels in Sapporo, but I suggest if from my experience you check the ones within ODORI PARK or ODORI STATION. From our hotel, we just WALKED to a lot of Sapporo's tourist spots. Okay din sa SUSUKINO area since that's where the foods are, hehe.

Medyo mahal kay Unizo than my usual budget accommodations before. But since dalawa naman kami ni Cea and it did saved us a lot on transportation costs, okay na okay na.

We arrived in the nearest airport bus stop to our hotel nighttime na. A lot of tourists still went down the bus so we still felt safe, plus it's Japan! I think it was even drizzling that night.

The bus stop nearest to Unizo Inn Sapporo is the Sapporo Grand Hotel, na ISANG TAWID LANG! Ito palang super recommended ko na ang Unizo. Aside from the convenience, I think we passed by about 3-5 different convenience stores on our way to the hotel.

Welcome to our room! I booked for the cheapest room available, and it's their Semi Double Non Smoking Room. Again, cheapest but not cheap! Hahaha! We paid about Php 12,000 EACH for 4 nights (so that's about Php 3000 per head per night). No breakfast yet. Steeper than my usual Php 500 to 1000 per night budget in Korea, but in exchange of privacy and convenience pwede na.

Our bed is so small, but buti nalang magkapatid naman kami ni Cea, haha! We also had aircon problems during our stay. Since malamig outside, minsan nagiging heater sya but hindi comfortable ang mainit na room for me. We had to adjust it all the time na para lumamig. Anyway, Cea said comfy naman siya, but if like me bet nyo yung winter wonderland na room medyo struggle sakin yung adjustments ng aircon nila.

Cea and I made a system with our HUGE luggages by placing them side by side, cover leaning up the wall para may malakaran parin.

They provided these robes that we didn't use naman, a laptop desk we used for our kombini snacks, and they also handed our bottled water during check-in palang (amounting to our number of days in the hotel).

Ayan yung bottled water, haha! Kulang pa siya sakin but again, ang daming convenience stores sa baba.

No closets in the room, but there are two rods with hangers for our coats and clothes. Bedroom and bathroom slippers are also provided.

Like a typical Japanese bathroom, our toilet and shower room is small but clean and complete. The toilet is remote controlled and heated kaya sobrang bongga! They also change ALL the towels daily, and make sure our room is clean when we get back. Again, comes with the price!

Tub and shower area. Shampoo, body wash, and conditioner are all provided.

The tiny bed, na nag kasya naman kami ni Cea hehe.

The quiet view from our hotel's window, konnichiwa Sapporo city!

HOW TO GO AROUND SAPPORO

Ang pinaka natakot ako about this trip is going around Hokkaido. I remembered my first time in Jeju, I ended up just taking an expensive cab because hindi madalas ang bus. It was also in that trip where I didn't look up (or had no time to research) on travel time so isang destination palang took an hour to get to--ubos kaagad half of the day! Haha!

That was how I imagined Hokkaido, and maybe ganun nga siya if I resorted to DIY. But my game plan changed the last minute when Cea agreed on spending on tour buses for our day-trips. For our Day 1 though, I pushed for just a city tour where we can just WALK or take the TRAIN.

Average one way train ticket is about 200 Yen. They also have unlimited train card for one day, but since panay walks lang kami ni Cea that day medyo huli na when we thought of buying one and just bought yung tingi-tingi.

Our neighborhood is BEAUTIFUL! If Sapporo is a filter, it looked like VSCO's A6!! Haha! It was dark and gray, very classy and quiet. I love its contrast to busy Shibuya. At night though, medyo mas maraming tao and bright lights lalo na sa Susukino area. In our area though in Odori, it was very peaceful.

Since we are the typical early risers, most of the cafes were closed yet (opens around 11am). We just settled for convenience store breakfast na hindi na masama.

The nearest station to our place is Odori Station in Odori Park, where the city's landmark Sapporo TV Tower is also located.

What station to take? Where to get off? We relied mainly on GOOGLE MAPS for directions so make sure you are always connected on your travels. For solo trips, I love using local sim. But for group or inter-city travels (multiple destinations) I use Tep Wireless pocket internet.

WHERE TO GO AND THINGS TO DO IN SAPPORO

For just a day, you can already do a lot of things in Sapporo. Actually if it were up to me, a day or two is enough to explore the city center, but the surrounding cities about 2-3 hours away will make me stay here longer. If you have just a day to spare in Sapporo, here are some places that we were able to go to in less than 24 hours:

HOKKAIDO GOVERNMENT OFFICE

Also known as the Red Brick Office, Cea and I just walked to this area using our Google Maps. It was easy, not sure if it's far but the cool weather and nice view (and our first time out!) were enough to have us walk!

We passed by the back area of the baroque American architectural building (and not by the gate on the photo above), and had our first taste of an autumn park in Sapporo.

There's a beautiful pond where branches of orange and red trees drop down to touch the water:

On the side, heading to the front gate of the building are more autumn trees but this time in glowing yellows and golds:

We walked outside to cross and enter the building called Akarenga Terrace. They have a semi "observatory" on its top floor where you can check the view of the Old Hokkaido Government Building and its nearby parks. Entrance is for free, so we went in nadin. There are restaurants on that floor, so you can also dine in here while enjoying the view.

View from the terrace:

SAPPORO CLOCK TOWER

Another landmark that's very near Unizo Inn is the Sapporo Clock Tower. It's easy to spot with its nice pale green color and wooden church-like exteriors. Sapporo Clock Tower has a very rich history, Sapporo considers it as their symbol.

We entered the building for FREE, where citizens welcomed us with a map and info sheet and even asked us where we came from. They were very apologetic that it's cold outside, at naloka kami ni Cea haha! They are mostly old ladies, and they are so enthusiastic about the clock tower, sobrang cute and nice nila huhuhu.

On the first floor is the museum and a souvenir shop.

The Sapporo Clock Tower pretty much still looks the same through the years:

We waited on the second floor at the lecture hall for 12nn to hear the clock. The ladies told us to touch the walls so we can feel the room vibrating! Ang cute lang!

The amazing part about this clock is that it is powered by GRAVITY alone--no batteries, no electricity, and not even nuclear power. About 50 kilograms of wooden box filled up with small stones hang at the bottom of the clock, making the whole technology simple, clean, safe, and pollution free. Only in Japan!

RAMEN ALLEY / SUSUKINO

We left the clock tower in time for lunch, so I told Cea that we can head to the famous Ramen Alley narin. We just walked, but it's actually nearer when you take the train to Susukino Station.

Btw, Hokkaido turns out to be popular for their RAMEN!

This place reminds me of Shinjuku's Omoide Yochoko, also a narrow alley where local bars and restaurants thrive.

We were supposed to enter the first ramen bar that we saw, with the picture of Anthony Bourdaine posted on its glass walls. We asked for a table, but the chef said that they are already by reservations so sige na nga. We walked and entered the next place that we saw. It says no photos of the cooking area, so here are the only pictures I was able to take of our lunch:

Okay naman sya, but hindi super spectacular as I was expecting haha! I even ordered the one with butter and corn for extra flavor, but medyo maalat for my taste. Cea didn't finish her bowl, I only went about halfway and I am matakaw na sa lagay na yan ha hehe. Anyway, baka dapat we went for the Anthony Bourdaine place next time!!

Btw, take note that I am a vegetarian but it's so hard to request for veggies-only ramen when in Japan. One time on my first trip to Tokyo Ate and I tried to request for no meat on a specific dish in the menu, and I think na ooffend sila when we do that here. To them kasi their recipe is perfect na, as is. I think you'll get same reaction when asking for condiments. They treat their food as ART! Kudos naman to them for that, hehe. But if you are a STRICT vegetarian then you might have a hard time with your food when in Japan.

Outside the Ramen Alley is the Susukino, also known as Sapporo's red light district. Shops like GU, Daiso, and Don Quijote are in this area, and also most of the restaurants, fast food chains, and bars. We walk to Susukino every night for our dinner. Ang ganda ganda dito sa gabi when all the billboards are lighted up!

NAKAJIMA PARK

We were supposed to go to Mt. Moiwa Ropeway and ride the cablecar, but it was sadly under renovations on the whole duration of our trip! So we decided to hop in the train and check out a nearby park where you can also view daw Mt. Moiwa ...

We went down Horohirabashi Station for the Nakajima Koen Park. According to the internet, you can see Mount Moiwa from the park but I guess it still depends on if it's a clear day. There's no Mt. Moiwa to be found, but here's what we saw on the river....

A cute doggo! We were distracted for a few minutes just watching what he is doing! He seems to be chasing something, but it turns out he's just getting flat stones and handing them to his fur parent (seated across us). Ang cute nya!

"Ang lamig dyan doggie!" Hehe. 💛

What's inside the park? There's a simple ski course during winter, the Concert Hall Kitara and Hoheikan, an astronomical observatory, Iyahiko Shrine, the Hokkaido Museum of Literature, and a Japanese Garden are all found within the park's premises.

SAPPORO BEER MUSEUM

We gave up on seeing Mt. Moiwa, and decided to go back to the train station and head for another stop: The Sapporo Beer Garden and Museum. If you've tried Sapporo beer before--with the iconic yellow star in the middle--then this is an amusing Hokkaido Heritage stop when you're in Sapporo.

I just learned now that Hokkaido is the birthplace of beer in Japan, and Sapporo Beer is one of its oldest beer brands brewing since 1877.

You can enter the museum for a fee (with guided tour) or for free--which Cea and I picked. It's not so bad nadin as we were able to pick up a number of information on the history of beer in Japan and the brand just by going around the museum.

Cea said that Sapporo Beer once attempted to rebrand to Nippon Beer, but it did not clicked. So they went back to Sapporo Beer rin.

HUGE TANK!

Our favorite zone, the Beer Tasting area! You choose the kind of beer and pay via a vending machine, and get your beer on tap by the counter. Cea and I are admittedly not beer people (mas ma wine ako haha) but sobrang sarap niya dito!

Price list:

Dining area reminds me of Hogwarts:

Got the classic, while Cea accidentally got the dark brew haha!

CHEERS! We just have to have our pics taken at the Sapporo Mug photo zone hehehe:

Btw, even kids are allowed in the museum basta obvs hindi lang sila oorder ng beer, haha! You can get to Sapporo Beer Museum through train (Higashikuyakusho Mae Station then about 15-minute walk) or bus from Odori straight to the museum. We went there through train, but discovered the more convenient bus heading back to Odori. It was already raining by that time so thank God for the transportation convenience!

SAPPORO TV TOWER AT NIGHT

Since we're already in Odori Park area, and it was raining outside, Cea and I decided to check out the observatory of the Sapporo TV Tower. It's a typical indoor observatory with the 360 degrees view of the city, and souvenir shops on the side. Entrance fee is 720 Yen, inclusive of luggage stickers. You can go here from 9am to 10pm. I guess best time to go here is late in the afternoon para tuhog sunset and nighttime view.

DAY TRIPS FROM SAPPORO

The next days that we were there were all set for day trips to another cities. We went to OTARU (quaint harbor city), and FURANO - BIEI (nature trip). More on these on my next blog posts!

Onsen destinations are also a bit far from Sapporo and will entail a day-trip, this includes Jozankei and Noboribetsu. For winter, Niseko has the most popular ski resorts in Hokkaido as of the moment.

ESTIMATED BUDGET FOR HOKKAIDO TRIP

We tried to note our expenses while in Sapporo, but I am sure bilang distracted I still missed a few detail resulting to discrepancies here and there. There were last minute bookings like our domestic flights, so I am sure if you're on a budget and have planned this well may maibabawas pa dito.

Anyway, here's a rough estimate of our expenses for our 4 nights in Hokkaido:

Basics:
Round Trip Airfare Manila to Narita - Php 13,000
Round Trip Airfare Narita to New Chitose - Php 10,000
Accommodation for 4 Nights in Unizo Inn - Php 12,000

Tours via Klook:
Otaru (with buffet lunch) - Php 2478
Furano / Biei (with buffet lunch) - Php 3384

Transportations:
Sapporo Airport Bus - Php 476 x 2
Sapporo Trains - Php 92 / ride

Food:
Php 1000 to Php 1600 per day
(note that some days have buffet lunch already kaya tipid)

Average cost of food:
*Kombini breakfast and / or midnight snacks - Php 350
*Ramen - Php 350 to Php 500
*Soft Served Ice Cream and other Snacks (Corn, Melon, Etc) - Php 180 each
*Local Japanese Restaurants - Php 350 to Php 1200
(most expensive was when we tried Mero Sapporo Cheese Factory with wine for dinner, hehe!)
*Fast Food - Php 390
(we tried MOS Burger fast food on one dinner)

###

IN CONCLUSION

Sapporo is not as intimidating as I thought, but it can get pretty expensive when you're for convenience! Medyo tita mode na kami ni Cea and we don't want to break our backs na, so gone are the days when we have to pull our 30-kilo luggages just to reach the nearest train for the airport. We are in a phase na okay na gumastos ng kahit konti, not too much, but just to make things a bit easier for us!

Same goes with taking tour buses instead of DIY-ing the whole trip! Since I haven't been here before, and we cannot afford to waste a day during our short vacation, joining a guided tour for our day-trip outside Sapporo is a bit mahal but also made our trip successful in my standards.

We were able to see a lot of things in Hokkaido in just a span of 4 days, and we didn't waste time and got inconvenienced. Cea also enjoyed her first Anagon Tour, I must say! When we were back in Tokyo, I knew she's still looking for the nature side that Hokkaido offered us that I felt she got bored in Shibuya, haha!

Overall, you'll still see me booking for another ticket back to Sapporo--bitin na bitin pa ako! Someday, I want to see it white with snow, as Cea and I originally planned. I am not always lucky with seasons as we were a week early for Sapporo's first snowfall. A few nights ago, Cea sent me recent photos of Odori Park--our neighborhood Odori!!!--all glistening and covered in fresh snow. Street vendors that were non-existent during our whole trip sprouted around the sides of the park, selling steaming hot corndogs and cheese logs! Sigh, just a week passed by and it's a whole new world altogether.

Dinner in Daimaru:

But the rustling and rain of golden leaves signalling the last days of Autumn, the cooler days where we can comfortably walk around the streets of Odori or Susukino without freezing to death, traveling anyway is basically just making the most of the experiences laid before you. There's no right or wrong way anyway, just the thought that we were given the chance to be there is more than enough to me. 💛

Next stop: Quaint little town of Otaru.
To be continued!

Special thanks to my Facebook friends who were very generous with their tips and answering my questions when I posted online searching for Hokkaido tips! Shoutout to Marco Diala, Lace Tan, Diana Cortes, and Chaley Tiu! Planning would have been harder if not for travel friends like you! 😌

The limited edition Vivo V11i Fairy Pink shows you why Pink is Power

$

Pink is womanly and charming, warm and intimate. Pink tempers the fire of red with a mellow loving spirit. Pink calms and heartens our sensibilities, calming negative feelings of aggression, animosity, and cynicism. Pink composes the nerves which brings an overall feeling of love and tenderness.

But pink does not always represent femininity or superficiality. Pink, on the other hand, has become a symbol of feminine power with the color associated with female-centered advocacies such as championing breast cancer survivors and warriors against gender-biases.

Pink is both a symbol of femininity and power. Here are the five reasons there is power in pink:

1. Pink is a color of Support, Unity, and Survival – Pink Ribbon

A pink ribbon symbolizes breast cancer awareness. The breast cancer awareness pink ribbon emerged in 1982 under the initiative of Susan G. Komen of the Cure®, the largest, best-funded breast cancer organization in the United States. The first breast cancer survivor program was launched during the Komen National Race for the Cure® where survivors initially wore black and white. Late that year, pink was used as the official Komen color. In 1991, pink ribbons were distributed to all breast cancer survivors of the Komen New York City Race for the Cure®.

The pink ribbon signifies the promise Komen founder Nancy G. Brinker made to her sister Susan G. Komen on what she could do to fight breast cancer. Today, the pink ribbon stands not only as a symbol of female strength and spirit against the disease but also as a testimonial that pink is powerful.

2. Pink is a color of Friendship

Bring together friendship and unity and they can move mountains. The power of female partnerships has shaped societies and changed the world and history for generations on end. One important example of this strong female friendship is the Zohra Orchestra, an amazing group of female friends from Afghanistan who became the nation’s first all-female musical group. Under the strict Taliban rule in the 1990s, music was thought of immoral and, as such, were banned especially for women. But the Zohra Orchestra ignored perils to their life and constant threats and dangers to embrace their rights as women and their love for music.

The Haenyeo are also an example of how a team of women could bring progress not only within their household but in the community as well. The Haenyeo are a group of Korean women divers, all aged over 50, who live the island of Jeju in South Korea. Diving is seen as a woman's profession on the island that so many Korean households in Jeju have seen a complete role reversal of the genders, where men stay home to look after the children while women work for the family. These women have ran the economy of Jeju and have since built a tight-knit community.

Here, women have challenged gender roles and have done so together as a strong band of game- changers, very much like how pink is seen as solely feminine but also serves to symbolize strength in women in so many ways.

3. Pink is a color of Self-Love

Pink also represents beauty and self-love. The beauty of a woman has, time and gain, proved powerful when it comes to changing the course of life and history. Cleopatra, the queen of Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt, was famous not only as an acme of intelligence but mostly because of her surpassing beauty. Helen of Troy, with a superior beauty that popularly “launched a thousand ships”, ran away with the Prince of Troy which erupted a 10-year war between the Greeks and the Trojans in the latter’s desperate battle to win her back.

Beauty in women has been a subject of admiration for poets, artists, and even powerful men in politics. Their skin of blushed pink is an indication of health and charm and the roses and corals in their clothes and bosom exudes femininity.

The power of make-up has also, time and again, proved to be an effective agent when it comes to female world domination. The make-up revolution has placed women in the pedestal, not just for their beauty but also for their power to stir the world and its modern view on the modern women.

4. Pink is a color of Feminine Pride

Pink is the new black in fashion. Women in the workforce has worn their colors loud and proud—feminine as they may be—but minus falling into the cookie cutter image of being the inferior gender in the rat race of the work world. Wearing pink and other colors of femininity in the office allow women to show that they are unapologetically embracing feminine strengths while conquering the world. In the world of grays and browns, pink is a bold statement to make that women who wear them are out to get their goals and missions and get things done.

5. Pink is a color of Powerful and Smooth Performance

Choreographer George Balachine once said that “ballet is woman”. Ballet shows the sublimity of the female form and the grandeur of ballet is something that women ballerinas have impressed upon in the world of arts. In the stage of ballet, the woman rules. Elegant, graceful yet strong, ballerinas in their pink tutus epitomize femininity with a purpose.

Much like the femininity of pink and all things women, Vivo’s limited edition V11i in Fairy Pink is delicate and chic but boasts of powerful features underneath its hood. Its smooth performance complements its beauty.

The Vivo V11i has AI dual rear cameras which offers an augmented perspective with the second lens allowing for improvement of sharpness. The ever popular Bokeh effect enhances photograph focus with a blurry effect thrown in for added drama. Its 16MP + 5MP dual rear camera fusion increases the amount of perspective, giving a near 3D image effect on photos. The superior photo quality is supported by Dual Pixel Sensors which boosts light sensitivity and focusing speeds.

It also has a 25MP front camera that renders high quality selfies. It is also equipped with the AI Face Beauty, the AI Selfie Lighting specs, and the newly-updated AI Face Shaping technology that adds oomph to every shot.

The smartphone is also popular for its gaming specs. The Vivo V11i has an Artificial Intelligence (AI) assistant packed in which aids in its superior gaming performance. With the Game Mode on, the CPU and RAM are automatically optimized, allowing for an uninterrupted gaming experience. A button for auto-rejecting calls and temporarily blocking of background calls are the features under Game Mode, with added dynamic specs such as the new-generation 2.0 GHz octa-core AI processor, and 128 GB ROM + 4 GB RAM which allows for smoother gaming action.

Do not be fooled by the Vivo V11i’s outer beauty because it is an overall powerful phone in one splendid compact.

Experience the power of pink with the limited edition Vivo V1i in Fairy Pink all yours for only P15,999 available at Vivo kiosks and concept stores and exclusively online on Shopee.

AI: The Catalyst for Personalized Experiences

Smartphones today are no longer simple communications devices that surf the web and offer a few apps. With the introduction of Artificial Intelligence (AI), today’s smartphones should be perceived as ‘platforms of intelligence’. Today’s phones strive to understand user behavior in ways that will elevate the user experience to greater heights. Gartner 1 has predicted that by 2022, 80% of smartphones will have on-device AI capabilities, this is up from 10% in 2017. In coming years, an AI smartphone will no longer be a ‘nice to have’, it will be critical to fulfilling consumers’ needs.

Most AI enabled smartphones in the market today are highly priced. However, Vivo is set to shake up the industry by including AI features into their phones at a much affordable level. The V11 model for example, is designed to understand the needs of users in an ‘intelligent’ and personalized way. For Vivo, the development of its AI features essentially elevates the user experience through better understanding, improved interactions and ‘decoding’ of scenarios in smarter and more personalized ways.

Meet Jovi, the personal AI assistant

The V11 comes with Jovi - Vivo’s AI assistant, that aims to take the user experience to new heights. Users will not have to stress about missing an action item on to-do-lists with the help of Jovi.

Picture a world where you have a virtual assistant to help you with your everyday mundane tasks. Jovi comes with features that are creatively incorporated into the V11 to enhance such experiences.

With Google Assistant, users can now utilize voice commands to complete actions with more convenience and more precision. With this feature, completing tasks, such as playing music or videos, sending messages, booking hotels can easily be done anywhere. The best part? These can all be done hands-free.

Jovi also enables Funmoji - a new and fun way to socialize with friends and families. The V11 can create a unique set of cute expressions using the AI algorithm by detecting changes in users’ facial expressions. This adds further fun and engagement when communicating with each other.

Detects and recalls context and situations

Jovi also comes with Jovi Smart Scene and Google Lens that can easily decode context and situations accordingly. These two features are designed to help users to save valuable time while automating simple chores.

Jovi Smart Scene is a thoughtful and dedicated personal assistant that specializes in recognizing different scenarios and learns how to proactively support the user accordingly. It helps to provide users with more personalized services that are efficient, interactive and able to assist them in making decisions. From preempting users on bad weather forecasts to checking in on them when they are staying up late at work or updating them on the latest sport results - Jovi has it covered. Essentially, Jovi is the intelligent assistant that understands users’ needs in a better way.

Have you ever seen something you really wanted to buy but had no idea where to purchase it? Just point your V11 camera at an object, and the integrated Google Lens will identify it and perform related searches. Whether you see your dream dress in a magazine, or a dream travel location – just point your V11 at it and Jovi will tell you where to find it.

AI engine optimizes performance

The V11 is also here to accommodate the busiest workaholics. V11’s Jovi AI Engine delivers a more efficient allocation of CPU and memory resources than ever before. By ‘reading’ user phone usage habits, the CPU will provide a custom operating mode to consumers. For the high-performing professional, when the V11 detects that he/she is constantly working overtime based on their location and timing, it will remind them to take a rest early. The heart of the V11’s AI features is the powerful  Qualcomm Snapdragon 660AIE processor, which features first-class energy efficiency and processing power that seamlessly accommodates the busiest schedules.

Imagine having a smartphone that could detect the current apps being used and allocate exactly the correct processing power to optimize performance? This could be the hardcore gamer’s new best friend. The V11 also features an AI Game Mode to ensure an uninterrupted gaming experience, with features such as Game Assistant to access floating call alerts and background calls, and an Automatic Game Mode to run your game in the background while the screen is switched off – so you never lose your progress.

Beyond the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 660AIE processor, the V11 comes with a 6GB RAM + 128GB ROM setup which ensures storage is enough for all users. Not only that, Vivo’s Dual-Engine Fast Charging also safely tops up the large 3400mAh capacity battery at a rapid speed, ensuring that the phone battery is well-charged, so gamers can focus on winning.

The V11 is designed to provide a more personalized experience, and to streamline heavy workloads with ease. AI will be the catalyst to stimulate the growth of modern smartphone software and hardware. Essentially, it will be the core engine for understanding and interacting with users in a more intelligent and engaging way.

AI Photography: Effortlessly capturing treasured memories

The art of photography has already undergone a fundamental transformation with the rise of camera phones. That transformation is set to evolve to another level with the science of photography being the focus emerging AI-embedded smartphones. AI-powered cameras promise a better ‘read’ of different photography settings and can automate functions that could take months or years to learn down to a split-second process. AI technology can quickly identify which settings are needed in any given scenario, allowing even amateur photographers to simply point and capture their magical moments in that exact instant.

This quantum shift in camera science means users no longer require sophisticated professional cameras, allowing users to effortlessly capture and show their vivid memories in more ways and with many more options.

Vivo has been quick to adapt to the evolving needs of consumers with the creation of the V11. The latest smartphone incorporates AI camera tools that solve very specific challenges that users might face while taking pictures – issues such as bad lighting, poor exposure or focus can easily be fixed with just a simple click, meaning taking breathtaking pictures are instantly possible and a reality.

Adjusting lighting has now made easier

Shooting portraits against the light can make for a terrible photo if done improperly. Imagine this, a person is having a great time at a sunset party and wants to snap a picture of him/her with the sunset, but is unable to capture the face clearly because of poor lighting. This scenario would be challenging even for the more professional photographer but could be solved easily with an AI-powered smartphone such as the Vivo V11.

Features, such as the AI Backlight HDR and the AI Low Light Mode that enable the phone to automatically adjust lighting according to the photo settings and subjects. The AI algorithm is the main catalyst that empowers these features. AI Backlight mode can capture up to 6 frames at a wider dynamic range of up to 11ev, correcting uneven exposures and merging them to create perfectly exposed photos. The AI algorithm also ensures that the AI Low Light Mode can intelligently combine different frames into an evenly lit one. By capturing more details and reducing noise in low light situations, it makes it much easier to take stunning photographs with a simple point and shoot.

Left: With AI Backlight HDR, Right: Without AI Backlight HDR

For selfie lovers, the V11 is also equipped with AI Selfie Lighting which delivers close to the quality of professional studio lighting. Users no longer need complicated lighting settings to get a stunning portrait. Instantly snap and share on social platforms, it’s that easy.

AI is your personal makeup artist

To enhance users’ facial structure, the AI Face Shaping does the trick. The tool comes with a variety of cosmetic facial changes, such as the ability to reshape the size of nose bridges, adjust the distance between eyes, and the size of lips. Looking at your naturally flawless best in all photos has now been made possible. Users can also see the before and after effect and adjust the visual according to their desired preference.

AI Face Shaping

Learning complicated photography settings is no longer required

For beginners in photo-taking, learning the tricks and tools of a complicated camera can be a daunting learning process, but with the AI camera, this is rendered unnecessary. The AI Scene Recognition is a revolutionary feature of the V11. It easily detects and adapts to 18 tags, so users can take the perfect picture automatically anywhere and anytime. Users simply just need to point and shoot, and the camera will quickly and accurately identify different scenes such as ‘night’, ‘portrait’, ‘food’ and apply customized settings to enhance it.

Left: With AI Scene Recognition, Right: Without AI Scene Recognition

To examine different photo scenarios, the V11 also comes with the AI Portrait Framing that automatically provides the best composition suggestion guiding users to better position the phone while taking pictures. It is able to do so by self-learning millions of data points, and directing users to hold the phone in the optimal position, producing a perfectly framed golden ratio portrait shot.

Left: With AI Portrait Framing, Right: Without AI Portrait Framing

With the help of the V11’s AI camera features, taking professional shots has never been easier. These outstanding features are literally a compact professional camera packed in a professional-grade hardware right in your palm. The 12MP (with 24 million photosensitive units) main camera plus a 5MP secondary camera ensures the camera’s photographic capabilities are enhanced. Also, the high- resolution 25MP front camera ensures any selfie will be crystal clear.

Today, all you need is an AI smartphone with high-quality camera hardware to transform yourself into a professional-level photographer.

Day-Trip from Sapporo: Quaint Port-Town of Otaru + Sapporo At Night

$

I am so excited to take you around Hokkaido's quaint harbor town of Otaru. ❤

A little back story, when my sister Cea and I decided to go on a Hokkaido trip, we wanted a chill and laidback itinerary. We wanted to relax and have a real vacation, not my usual halabira travel (hehe). We were thinking of snow and a quaint little house where we can stay, but come our travel dates--we realized that we're still early for winter!

I still stayed true to our travel mission of going for the slow-paced route, starting off with booking tour buses for day-trips in Hokkaido. I know, nakaka TITA na talaga haha! I have received several messages on how difficult transportation is on this part of Japan, one even said that they often resorted to TAXIS because no choice! There were no other means at that time. So to avoid getting lost, wasting a day, or even wasting money, I checked Klook travel app for Hokkaido day-trips and found two that suits our taste.

On our second day in Hokkaido, we booked for the Otaru Bay Story Tour. It costs Php 2498 which is already inclusive of the transportation to and from Sapporo-Otaru, and the buffet lunch. You can choose from two pick-up points: Sapporo Station Bus Terminal or Otaru Station Bus Terminal (if you're already there). Luckily, our hotel is just walking distance to the Sapporo meet-up point.

Tip: Look for Klook promo codes and discount vouchers so you can save more on your tours! I worked for Klook a few months ago (where I gave a talk) and got Php 1000 vouchers so Cea and I only paid Php 1498 each for this tour! Sulit!

MEET-UP POINT: Sapporo Station Bus Terminal (ESTA Building 2F)

When you book a tour via Klook, you will always get an email confirmation with instructions and schedule, including the time and place of your meet-up. You can view everything either on this email, or even on your account in the app under BOOKINGS.

According to our ticket, we're supposed to be in Sapporo Station Bus Terminal (ESTA Building 2F) by 8:55am. Cea and I were there about 15 minutes in advance to be sure. We sat for a while and can't seem to pin-point our tour group, so after a while Cea said I have to at least ask the lady by the nearest bus ticket counter.

Not included in the email and app is this, you have to exchange your Klook e-ticket at the lone counter for CHUO BUS located in the Sapporo Station Bus Terminal (ESTA Building 2F). They will check your name and hand over an actual ticket. I think they also sell tour tickets there in case you weren't able to book via Klook.

We sat again and just people watched, not daring to leave the vicinity. After a while, a person with a placard will go in the middle to announce the name of a tour. She will then gather everyone, check the tickets and your names in her clipboard, before leading the whole group down to the bus terminal.

To make sure you're on the right tour, check and double check with every person who makes an announcement HAHA. Mas okay na makulit kesa magkamali or maiwan!

This tour bus does not have any assigned seats, but the next ones we had meron na so double check nalang din. They also require passengers to wear the seatbelts at all times, and they weren't strict naman with food and drinks so lagi kaming may baon ni Cea lalo na water.

We were also provided with headsets for English translation of the information announced by our tour guide in front. If you turn the dial where you plug the headset next to your seat, they also have translations for Chinese and Korean. When it comes to meet up time for every activity, our guide has a white board that she flashes before our bus stops and while we're heading down. I always set my phone's alarm 5 minutes before the time we have to be back on the bus para hindi kami maiwan.

ABOUT OTARU

Travel time from Sapporo to Otaru is about 45 minutes. When you DIY this, it's only about 1 hour by train so hindi naman nalalayo.

It was a short ride, but Cea was still able to take a nap. I decided to plug my headset to listen to the narrations.

Otaru is a small port city in Hokkaido, northwest of Sapporo on Ishikari Bay. A long time ago, Otaru served as a major trade and fishing port of Japan. They were very abundant in herring and salmon, thus their economy thrived and people of Otaru became very rich! But one day, the herring catches decreased and the city suffered immensely.

By 19th century after World War 2, new businesses such as fisheries, farms, and coal minings sprouted here and there thus the city recovered from the crisis. In 1972, when the Winter Olympics was held in Hokkaido, Otaru became very popular to the tourists for its old town charm. They also offer more than the sights, but also delicious confectionery and salmon, and handicrafts like their glassworks, music boxes, and of course sake distilleries.

Former Hokkaido Bank (now a wine and cheese place!)

Our quick first stop was in a wine and cheese place called Otaru Bine. Cea and I tried the fresh wine they are offering in tiny cups, and they are so so good! You can buy a bottle or two after choosing from over 100 kinds of wine, but with no pressures.

What's notable about this place is that it is inside an old stone building, a former bank built in 1912. Connected to the wine shop is a cafe where you can dine and try their wine with western dishes. If only we had more than 20 minutes to spare I would have ordered or even brought home some of their cheeses!

Otaru Bay Canal

Our second stop was in one of the places I was looking forward to prior the trip, just about 7 minutes away from Otaru Bine. When I saw pictures of the Otaru Canal online, the place gives off this storybook vibe as if I am inside a fairytale! It also reminds me a little bit of Prague.

True enough, seeing the canal IRL did not disappoint. We were there during autumn when leaves sprawling across warehouse walls were in reds and yellows, but it also has a different vibe when covered with snow!

A little history, the Otaru Canal was the center of the city's busy port during the 20th century. It became obsolete when it was replaced by modern dock facilities which can accommodate larger vessels. But instead of destroying the canal, citizens developed the area into the tourist attraction that it is now. Old warehouses were converted to museums, cafes, restaurants, and stores. You will still see the signs and designs of the olden times, lending character to the whole place!

Some of the activities that you can do while you're here include a ferry tour (for a fee), a stroll by the canal where you can chance upon artists selling sketches, and of course--dine in and try their local delicacies!

Cea and I decided to just hangout in one of the benches overviewing the canal, and eat our kombini snacks. Of course, we also took lots of scenic photos and selfies! 😁 It was a good sunny day, but air was cool so being outdoors was just so refreshing!

Buffet Lunch at Grand Park Otaru

Finally, lunch! To some, this was the highlight of this tour, haha! We head to Grand Park Otaru, a hotel in the vicinity, for their restaurant's buffet. They have white plastic trays with dividers serving as their plates, which remind me so much of my high school cafeteria. They offer a mix of Western, Japanese, and Chinese dishes, and everything's actually good! My favorite though is their cheese fondue section where I drizzled my bowl of broccoli with lots of cheese. YUM! Yun palang solb nako! 😋

Saw a double rainbow while we were enjoying lunch. What a treat!

Tanaka Shuzo Brewery Kikko Gura

For a little Sake 101, the group went to Tanaka Shuzo Brewery Kikko Gura--makers of this popular Japanese beverage since 1899. We had a tour of the place which shows sake's art and history, how sake was made, and how much grains of rice were used to create the booze!

By the end of the tour, Cea and I tried as much sake as we can, didn't know they come in different variants! They offered shot glasses of different sake flavors to all the guests, and you can also buy bottles to take home. It was also my first time to taste a non-alcoholic sake!

Sakaimachi Street

I also enjoyed the semi last stop of this tour, which is Otaru's Sakaimachi Street. Our guide gave us enough time to just go around the area, but according to our itinerary, here are some stuff that you must visit while you're here: Kitaichi Glass, Otaru Music Box Museum, and Kitakaro (a pastries shop!).

Walking around Sakaimachi Street felt like Christmas! Haha! People give off a more relaxed and happy vibe as they walk in and out of the stores. We entered several shops just to see what's inside.

You'll also see LeTAO everywhere! This brand was actually born here in Otaru.

This looks like a church, but it's also a LeTAO store:

We entered this building located at the far end of the street, which fortunately turned out to be the Otaru Music Box Museum! Again, it felt like Christmas inside with the wooden interiors from walls to floors to its ceiling, and shiny ornaments decorating the whole place. Of course, I cannot imagine this place quiet as people were buzzing over the intricate music boxes, and every time one was opened, different music fills the air!

I think it's the first time ever that I've been to one place with so much music boxes! The atmosphere is magical, but also borderline creepy haha! There are about 25,000 music boxes in this building, from smallest to the largest, from basic to the most interesting and unusual ones like plushies that also has music when you turn a knob hidden on its back! Everything's out of your childhood Christmas dreams!

They also have a create your own music box section where you can choose the design of your box, and the music you want it to play. Their selection is so wide, I saw modern songs on the list. I was really tempted to make one, but price is about Php 2500.

"There are five songs for each color"

These are the wind-up plushies! Ang cute!

This is the create your own music box section:

Lastly, Cea and I dedicate our last minutes in Sakaimachi Street to eat! We went inside this LeTAO store for their ice cream, but we weren't even in the counter yet ang dami ng free taste!

Our fromage soft served ice cream, aka CHEESE ice cream:

I also saw a store selling melons by the slice. Medyo mahal sya, but someone also recommended that I should try this so push! It's so juicy!! Wish I can buy more or take home some, haha! A slice costs 350 Yen or Php 161.

Glass Studio in Otaru

There is a last activity in the itinerary but we weren't able to go to it na because of the weather. Mt. Tengu Ropeway was supposed to give us a view of the city, but we're all good. We went inside the Glass Studio in Otaru instead, but it was just a quick stop before we finally go back to Sapporo and end the tour.

Back in the City: Sapporo at Night

We're back in Sapporo at about 5:30pm, and it was already pitch black outside. It also felt colder because of the strong winds, but we welcome the walk after almost a day inside a bus. Since it's still early, Cea and I decided to walk from Odori Park to Susukino, while making quick stops in stores we found interesting. We spotted a GU, an ABC Mart, and a Don Quijote along the way.

I love Japan's city lights at night. Had to stop in this intersection to enjoy this view! Unlike Shibuya or Shinjuku, there were lesser crowd here in Sapporo. I am amused by it, but I actually love it too!

People were also taking photos so hindi nakakahiya hahaha:

Cea and I ended up in MOS Burger for dinner, a Japan fast food chain. I ordered a vegetarian burger na medyo funny lang--the veggie patty is held by rolls of lettuce instead of bread! Diet? Haha! Taste wise it's just okay, but that night I bought so much kombini snacks again and munched away in our hotel room hehehe.

Side Note: What are your thoughts in joining tour buses or guided tours?

I have come to appreciate this kind of traveling after years of DIY-ing my way from city to city. I love learning through a local guide vs Google, and the convenience of just hopping in a bus and not risk getting lost interpreting train tracks and bus numbers. I also have the luxury to catch up on sleep especially when bus rides are about 2 to 3 hours long. Hindi ako kailangang all-time alert level 100, hehehe.

It has it's downside though, of course, and the common factor why people don't prefer these kind of tours is that it is very time constrained. We have to follow a strict schedule, so over-staying in a place you wanted to explore more is out of the picture. Although this also means we get to go to more places in just a day--just like for this Otaru Bay Story Tour

Tours can also be a bit more expensive compared to DIY itineraries where you can just choose where you want to go or where you want to eat. Meals are usually buffet kaya siguro medyo mahal din siya, but as a vegetarian I find this more convenient. Also, being herded with a group can be a turn off to some, although I am not pressured and bothered naman by it.

Overall, I still look for the sense of adventure that comes with navigating places on my own. LALO NA when I am solo traveling, iba ang immersion when you commute. But when people rely on me like my sister or my family, or when it's a new place like Hokkaido, I'll make sure to dedicate a day or two with a tour bus--aka my time to relax and enjoy as well! Hehe.

Global smartphone brand Vivo has played Santa ahead of Christmas as it created treasured moments to the elderly at the God’s Grace Home Care Center (GGHCC) in Quezon City on November 24, 2018.

GGHCC serves as a home to the elderly, the disabled, and other patients who need palliative care. With this in mind, Vivo as represented by its 24 employees brought cash donation, brand new wheelchairs, commodes, adult diapers, slippers, pillows, and personal hygiene kits for the GGHCC. At least 40 older adults from the GGHCC participated in Vivo’s visit.

“We as a brand is known for having high-grade smartphone cameras that understand the value of capturing precious moments in the best ways possible. We wanted to extend this vocation by celebrating Christmas with our elderly at the GGHCC,” Vivo Philippines HR Director Ms. Nerissa Choy said in her opening remarks.

Vivo also invited its young endorsers Inigo Pascual and Maris Racal to the visit. Inigo serenaded the lolas and the lolos with his hit “Dahil Sa’yo” and his rendition of the Christmas classic “Sana Ngayong Pasko.” He also played the Hep Hep Hooray game with the elderly.

Maris, on the other hand, performed her original song “Ikaw Lang Sapat Na” and her cover of “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” during the visit. She also played the Siomai, Siopao, Suman game with the residents of the GGHCC.

Vivo also collated video greetings from its other endorsers Kisses Delavin, Edward Barber, Maymay Entrata, Darren Espanto, Kathryn Bernardo, and Daniel Padilla.

Vivo previously extended help to Cottoleng Filipino, Habitat for Humanity, and the AFP Medical Center (V. Luna General Hospital).

Toby's Sports, Philipines' leading sports retailer, just launched their biggest store at the Bonifacio High Street in Taguig! The 1000sqm, two-story flagship store houses about 25,000 premium assortment of footwear, sports apparel, and equipment from the world's best brands! I'm literally DROOLING! Haha! Not just for the athletes, if you are also into sneakers or athleisure style like me, then this is the one-stop-shop we've all been waiting for here in Manila!!!

This place is HUGE! It reminds me of sports stores in Korea, Japan, and Taiwan that I love to enter to because they carry all my favorite brands! It's easier to compare prices and styles that way, noh?

Inside the store, nalula ako! Haha!

"We wanted to create an iconic store, a pinnacle shopping experience in the heart of Metro Manila," said Sir Toby Claudio, President of Toby's Sports.

Photos during the ribbon cutting:

But more than just a shop-and-go store, Toby's Sports Flagship gives you more than the best products but also an experience. True to its branding, they are giving us a space in the middle of the metro to PLAY! Presenting some of the store highlights below.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN THE STORE

TOBY'S SPORTS STORE DIRECTORY

Not sure if this is just for the event or a mainstay service, but Crep has a sneakers cleaning station at the ground floor:

They also served healthy food and drinks during the launch c/o my favorite: Juju Eats!

LAUNCHZone

LAUNCHZone will host product launches that feature the latest innovations from the top sports brands. Toby's Sports also plans to use this area for curated installations, special VIP events, and athlete appearances.

PLAYZone

The flagship store features an interactive PLAYZone to host events and sports clinics on a regular basis. It also doubles as a basketball court, which utilizes a professional-grade basketball shooting machine, where people can hone their shooting skills. Prizes will be given out regularly to top scorers in Toby's Shootout game.

TOBY'S CUSTOM LAB

Located on the 2nd level, the Toby's Custom Lab offers apparel customization services with the capability to create full custom uniforms and jerseys.

RUN SIGNATURE ANALYSIS

The flagship store offers Run Signature gait and running form analysis, from Brooks. This will help store personnel recommend the ideal shoes to every customer.

HIGHTECH RETAIL TECHNOLOGIES

You can now browse www.tobys.com inside the store using large interactive walls. You can also unlock virtual content by placing a shoe on their Shoe Showcase platforms and browse all its specs and features via touchscreen!

Meanwhile they are also going omnichannel by offering a CLICK & COLLECT service where customers can pick up their orders in the store within hours. Soon, Toby's Sports will also introduce an automatic locker area where online customers can pick up their orders 24/7, even when the store is closed, using a generated passcode that will be sent directly to the customer's mobile phone.

WORLD-CLASS INTERIORS

Toby's Sports flagship is a standout in BGC. They utilize cutting-edge technology, such as stunning LED displays towering over 5th avenue. Inside, the interior design combines architectural details inspired by Manila's raw aesthetics with larger-than-life graphics and pops of color that represent the vibrant nature of sports.

They also have a central staircase featuring massive lighted wall, serving as the centrepiece of the store.

THE MERCH

And of course, sharing the products you can purchase in this store! They are too many to capture in one blog post, but I tried to take as much photos as I can!

They have caps, socks, and other sports accessories from top brands including Nike and Adidas:

Sneakerheads, they carry styles from Under Armour, Nike, Adidas, Converse, Vans, etc.

Slides and slip-ons from Sanuk, Adidas, and Nike:

Fitness and sports apparel and equipment:

Weights:

They even have bikes, rollerblades, skateboards, etc.

Titans and UFC:

Do you play tennis or table tennis? They have all the stuff you'll need:

Deuter bags for mountaineers and other outdoor activities:

I spotted lifestyle backpacks and duffel bags from Nike, Adidas, and Converse.

Volleyball, soccer, swimming... You name it, they have them!

And of course, a whole section dedicated to BASKETBALL, most Filipinos' favorite sport!

Even their fitting rooms are designed to look like locker rooms:

Now in it's 40th year, I am inspired by Toby's Sports growth but still staying true to their mission to encourage sports. Through this new and very modern store you'll just see that this brand LISTENS TO THEIR CUSTOMERS and KEEPS UP WITH THE TIMES.

"My hope is that the flagship can become an epicenter for sports and sneaker culture in the Philippines," Claudio concluded.

I have to admit, I am one of those who relies to PASTA as my go-to dish when tasked to cook, haha! Sure kasi na no-fail and masarap. It's also my staple meal at home when I am alone, since my sisters all go to office daily and I work home-based.

If like me sawa ka na with the usual red sauce, then check out these five exciting new flavors brought to us be Del Monte's Spa Sarap Squad!

Went a little further down south of the Metro last Friday, in Ayala Solenad Mall Nuvali, to visit the Del Monte Spa Sarap Squad Head Quarters. We arrived there about past 3pm and the place was packed! People were really curious about these new Del Monte offering.

Also in the venue: Carlo, Taliana, Chessy, Sweetie, and Ino aka the Del Monte Spag Sarap Squad whose main mission is to save the day by introducing us to new pasta flavors!

They were gracious to guests who wanted to have photos with the gang:

A friend in the blogosphere, Bea Benedicto, was also there to host the event. She lead the fun games for anyone in the audience, and also tried the spag sarap sauces complete with "food review"! Naks, food blogger! Hehe!

Another highlight is the FREE samplers of the five pasta sauce flavors for everyone in Nuvali that day!

Check out the day's menu, all using Del Monte spaghetti sauce:

And lastly, mall-goers also enjoyed taking photos in Del Monte's Instagram-worthy installations, introducing all the five sauce flavors:

Of course, I had to take my own pictures too (for the 'Gram, hehe!).

Here is Creamy & Cheesy's booth:

The Filipino Style Head Quarters--representing the sweet, meaty, and cheesy sauce:

Carbonara Style spaghetti sauce--with real cream and milk!

Ahhh these squad is so cute! Availing the "wrecking ball" theme of the Sweet Style booth. Sweet Style is made with 100% naturally sweet California tomatoes:

And lastly, tomatoes and basil loaded Italian Style's photo zone:

So, without further ado, these are the five Del Monte sauce flavors that are now readily available in the market! So are you team Sweet Style, Italian Style, Filipino Style, Carbonara Style, or Creamy & Cheesy?

Imagine cooking different pasta noodles (spaghetti, angel hair, fetu, macaroni, etc) and five different sauce flavors on your upcoming Christmas parties! Serve them buffet style so your guests will have the option to try the different flavors. Maybe add toppings (meats, parmesan cheese, etc) on the sides to make your spread more extra. It will be super bongga, and I am sure your party will be a hit! ❤

Korean girl group Momoland (Hyebin, Yeonwoo, Jane, Nayun, JooE, Ahin, and Nancy) is back in Manila for an exclusive, one-day-only fan meeting organized by multi-level marketing company Frontrow International. This private event is the company's way to thank its loyal distributors.

Momoland is also set to become the newest Frontrow ambassadresses with a video and photoshoot for the brand. Before the big event in ABSCBN Vertis Tent in Quezon City yesterday, we had the chance to see the girls up close through a press conference in the newest Frontrow office in Mother Ignacia, QC.

At the entrance of the new office of Frontrow, converted to MOMOLAND just for a day!
With Trish, Pax, and Ava:

Kyeopta Momoland bus where the girls were on standby before the presscon started:

The ceiling of the venue was filled with these rainbow balloons, matching the cute and sweet vibe of this Kpop group:

So happy to see the girls just a few steps away from me!

They are all so yeppuda, but Nancy was a crowd favorite:

Everybody answered all the questions from the press, and they're all super excited to be back in the country, this time as Frontrow's endorsers.

Frontrow also gave away two roundtrip tickets to Korea during the event! Super swerte ng winners!

Final photo op before the girls left for their afternoon meet-and-greet + show for Frontrow members:

Hahahaha, we just have to! Your new Momoland girls hehehehe:

Jung Hae In in Manila: #SarangHaeInManila Fan Meeting

I can't believe hindi ko nablog to??? Or baka na delete ko ba?! Anyway, I was looking through my "fan meet" blog posts when I realized that I forgot to blog my Jung Hae In fan meeting experience last July 2018.

I super enjoyed this fan meeting, and narealize ko na naka ilang solo fan girling narin pala ako. "Walang makakapigil" lol. Just as long as I am here in Manila and afford ko, suportahan ko lahat ng pupuntang Kdrama oppas dito! Hehehe.

Event venue was in Kia Theatre, but I think iba nadin name niya ngayon hahaha. Just a few months and nagbago na pati name ng venue parang ang tagal tagal na talaga tuloy hehehe.

The beautiful crowd:

What I love about this fan meeting are the fans. I received so much stuff at the entrance palang of Kia. From these flower crowns that everyone in the audience wore agad agad, to the Jung Hae In bookmarks and posters. Fans gave them all away to fellow fans for FREE.

Before the program started, the host VJ Sunny hyped the crowd by giving away this Miniso penguin featured in While You Were Sleeping! Huhuhu ang cute! Nainggit ako ng light sa winner hahah!

I remembered Jung Hae In was very charming in person. He is very manly, and his smile is really nakakatunaw mwahaha. Ang dami din niyang paandar during the show. We left the venue super satisfied and happy!

I also love that I went in alone, and left the venue with so many friends. I even met some fan boy and fan girl chingus from the world wide web through this fan meet!

Program flow! It had the usual question and answer segment:

A portion where they showed Hae In's pictures since childhood:

And of course, clips from his past dramas! Did you know that he's also in Goblin?

Hae In's scene in While You Were Sleeping that broke my heart hahaha!

And of course, Something In The Rain! The crowd went berserk by this time! Hahaha! I even heard girls shouting "NOONA!"

There were a lot of fun games too! I was entertained by Hae In's reactions hehehe:

And of course, there were a lot of hugs for lucky fans who made it to the stage segments:

Photo op with the whole audience:

And a tribute video for Hae In from his Filipino fans. I love the part when the fans all had their "shadow heart" interpretation, huhuhuh.

Hae In's heart felt letter to his Filipino fans. I really look up to them, Korean superstars, because they are very humble, they try their best to connect to their fans, and they always strive to be better even when they are already famous.

"Thank you for sending unconditional love and support for me who is not good enough yet." Huhuhu.

Thank you to chingus who saw me during my turn for the hi-touch and photo op onstage! Saranghae!

Marami-rami narin akong nainvest (haha) sa mga fan meetings nato, to the point of even going solo just to see my favorite Korean stars in the flesh. I always pick the best seat that I can afford, although medyo pricey lang talaga noh? I think now that I am just looking back on it, I still have no regrets that I made a once in a lifetime moment like this happen to me. I was happy that day.

My recent fan gathering is for Lee Jong Suk, who is coincidentally Jung Hae In's co-star in While You Were Sleeping! For the first time in my fan girling life I got my tickets for free (as a media partner), and even had extras that I was able to share to friends and online readers. Life has been good to this fan girl this year. I am super grateful but know that with free tickets or not, with company or alone, I will be in the fan meet venue to support my faves.

See you on the next ones, okay! ❤

Making room for the 'best Christmas gift' ever

$

It's the most wonderful time of the year once again! Sharing to you this good vibes story on the best gift ever this Christmas: A home--a space where you feel at ease and loved. ❤ Read on!

Note: Story not mine, just want to share this to everyone! Other than the good vibes, I think that a lot of us might find this useful.. especially Loc&Stor Self Storage solutions that I just heard of now!

Time was when the countdown to Christmas had me happily anticipating the most wonderful time of the year. The sight of malls being dressed in holiday style, bazaars sprouting all over the metro, carols constantly being played, and the prospect of family get-togethers made me giddy with excitement.

But the recent years were times of change. Two of my siblings got married and settled abroad. A favorite uncle passed away. A cousin I grew up with and childhood friends from the old hometown have all found their dream jobs—in another continent.

Sadly, Christmas, I thought, will never be the same again.

Or so I thought until one recent evening, when I’d finally set up the family’s heirloom belen, painstakingly cleaning and polishing the tiny figures in the manger.

There I stood in the living room, surveying the results of my work: the gaily trimmed Christmas tree sparkled with hundreds of silver LED lights, a beautiful wreath welcomed guests at the front door, while near it, a four-feet-tall jolly ole Santa Claus stood watch over the foyer.

Touches of Christmas brightened up more nooks and spaces in the comfy home I share with my husband Robert.

As I gazed at the sight of the little infant Jesus asleep in the manger, I couldn’t help smiling. This Christmas will be different. This Christmas, a precious little baby will bring back the magic that I thought I had lost. It’s because in a few weeks’ time, Robert and I will be welcoming our first baby, Mikhail, which means “Gift from God.” Mikhail, after all, is the best gift we would ever receive on this most blessed season.

We waited nearly five years for this baby. After getting married, we decided to savor life as a couple and save up before starting a family. We also wanted to travel unencumbered, spend time with friends, and enjoy our favorite pastime—shopping.

But Robert and I soon learned that none of these gave us the thrill and joy that we felt upon learning of Mikhail’s coming. The thought of cradling him gave us an unmistakeable sense of optimism about this new chapter in our lives.

So this year the spirit of Christmas is back. It’s all over our home, especially in Mikhail’s spanking new nursery room! It’s in the pastel colored walls, in the tiny white crib, the stuffed toy unicorn beside Mikhail’s fluffy white pillows, and in the sky blue rug with a rainbow print.

Just imagine: a year ago, Mikhail’s spiffy new nursery was our old store room, where Robert and I stashed most of our wedding gifts, our old décor, furnishings, and mementoes from numerous shopping trips. The clutter simply accumulated through the years.

We wondered then: where do we place the horde of possessions we didn’t have the heart to discard? Do we need to find a bigger place?

That’s when Robert and I did some research online and learned about this concept of “self-storage.” Apparently, the practice of storing one’s belongings in a safe and secured facility outside your home has been around in the US for quite some time now.

As we checked out more sites for self-storage, we happily discovered that we have our own self-storage facility right here in the metro, Loc&Stor 24/7, which is readily accessible from our place. That very same weekend, Robert and I lost no time in checking out their facility in Pasig.

During our visit, Robert and I personally inspected the facility, and I must say that we were really impressed with its security features, the convenience it offers, the cleanliness of its premises, as well as the professional customer service.

Right there and then, we knew that we’d found the answer to our prayers and the space we needed for our peace of mind.

And guess what, our home now looks bigger than it actually is. And this Christmas season, we are set to welcome Mikhail to a home that is full of love . . . and free of clutter.

Updated Skincare: December 2018

Annyeong! I'm back! I realized I haven't done an updated skincare post in a while because I got into a reeaaaally really lazy phase! I've been using sheet mask for weeks, most especially during my consecutive travels where I cannot afford to bring all my jars and bottles! Haha!

I love my sheet mask, but it's so hard to sustain because it is more expensive than buying a bottle of serum or even the expensive ampoule that will last me months. A sheet mask worth Php 75-100 will only be good for a day! In the middle of my sheet mask phase, I actually tried reusing one mask for two days by keeping its foil container with the excess serum and reusing them the next day. Okay naman, naka tipid ng konti.

Not sure if it's the changing weather during my trips (hot and super cold) or my commutes here in Manila (pollution), but my skin got really bad about a month ago. My pores were enlarged again, I got tiny bumps which I am not sure if allergies ba, I had more blackheads and acne all over my face! I also got oilier than usual, but areas on the corners of my mouth were dry and flaky!

That's when I realized I needed to get back to my skincare routine groove! Sayang naman, just a few weeks of laziness balik uli sa dati ang skin ko! So I invested on new products + brought out my old favorites and used them again religiously every night. I've been regularly using these products nightly for more than a week now, so I guess it's safe to share them here! When combined, they did wonders on my skin, so they might work well for yours too!

CLEANSE

To remove my makeup, I tried to gear away from oil-based products and tried out the Innisfree Green Tea Cleansing Water (Php 806) I got from the launch of the first Innisfree store here in Manila. What I love about this is firstly its packaging. You conveniently pump the product out and up with cotton pads--no need to turn the bottle over to pour! It's so clean and convenient for lazy girls like me, hehe! I also like its faint green tea smell. Often times, I am excited to use products when I love its scent!

I realized how bad it was when I used this product everyday, but the Neogen Bio-Peel+ Gauze Peeling Green Tea is so addicting! Rubbing the pad's rough and smooth sides effectively cleanse my skin from makeup, sebum, and dirt, but its serum also exfoliates my skin so it can be kind of harsh when used daily.

Now I am trying my best to limit usage to every two days, and hopefully to just around 2x a week or when I had a long day outdoors. Aside from being harsh, a jar is also a bit on the expensive side (Php 1295) ang sakit sa bulsa pag paubos na sya hehe. BUT it is really really effective in clearing up my skin so I've consumed a lot of this na and have been repeat-buying Neogen Biopeel for over a year now.

For my facial wash, I also use another green tea based product called the Innisfree Green Tea Cleansing Gel-to-Foam. I have another favorite green tea foam cleanser from Neogen, but this one from Innisfree is a good alternative. I am not sure how it specifically helped or improved my skin compared to my former cleansers, but it also did not trigger any negative reactions to my face so I am finishing up this product for sure!

TONE AND MOISTURIZE

I used this before then stopped for a while, but that night when I decided to go back to my multi skincare routine I immediately picked up this Esfolio Super Rich Coconut Facial Toner (Currently on sale in BeautyMNL app at Php 399). I LOVE LOVE its mild coconut scent that it is very satisfying to use. Aside from that, it's a toner that's MOISTURIZING (usually drying ang toner) so thumbs up sya sakin.

Another comeback in my skincare arsenal is the CosRX BHA Blackhead Power Liquid (Php 990), targeting a specific skin problem (blackheads) so I knew I had to use this again.

It's a popular Innisfree product, but it was actually my first time to try out the Innisfree Green Tea Seed Serum (Php 1590) when they launched the MOA store. I had to test and see if it's worth the hype--and it did exceeded my expectations! Rich in anti-oxidants, this green tea serum helps minimize my breakouts at the same time hydrates my skin. I am now a fan of this cult fave, or maybe even the whole Innisfree green tea line!

I am aware that BHA (from the CosRX I use above) and Vitamin C is a bad combination, but I was so tempted to try out this new product from iWhite Korea called the Vitamin Sleeping Gel Mask (Php 229) the moment I saw its cute packaging in Watsons and Metro Department.

I love and trust the brand so I knew I will also love this product, and I did! It is vitamins to my skin, making it healthy, supple, and glowing. So far, no adverse reaction when I mixed it with my other products coz unlike the potent Vitamin C serums na mapili with what you use it with, this feels gentler but still effective. Plus points talaga na all iWhite products are very easy on the pocket, and even available in sachets.

And lastly, I top everything with the Innisfree Green Tea Sleeping Mask after hearing raves about this during the launch. I heard it from a vlogger na sobrang ganda ng skin, so I made sure to open up a jar that same night haha! I am sure it made my skin extra soft the next day, and again it worked will with all the other products I use so I am sure I will keep on using this combination while they are still working for my skin.

Now here is something I do not directly use on my face, haha, but I just have to add this on the list since it's a recent addition to my road to a healthier lifestyle (aka better skin too!). Plus, I learned that coconut juice helps in acne as it is rich in vitamins and naturally eliminates excess oil on skin and balances skin pH. It is also very hydrating!

I think I need to be more conscious na of what I eat in the coming days--aside from gaining weight, junk food can also cause bad skin. Instead of drinking sugary juices or sodas, a healthier option is fresh coconut water. Just Coco delivers fresh and bottled coco juice around the Metro. They guarantee that nothing's added and processed, so I highly recommend it if you don't have any fresh source of buko juice near your city. Follow them @justcoco_manila or text 09267252000 to order.

Here's a more recent picture of my skin. I think it improved a lot for less than a month back in my multiple skincare routine!

Up next: To watch what I eat, even though I know it will be more difficult now that there will be Christmas parties here and there!! 😁😅 Tips pls!

The products I use are available in Innisfree store, Watsons, or in Althea Korea, BeautyMNL and Lazada apps. Let me know if you have favorites in this list too!

Good news to those who don't have or don't use credit cards, but have lots of awesome 2019 travel plans already!

I know the feeling of wanting to book flights online, but not owning a credit card by choice so I am putting off my dream destinations. I'm sure that what's stopping most of my young readers from booking the ticket to your next adventure, if not time or budget, is simply because of the limited modes of payment. Finally! Scoot, the low-cost arm of the Singapore Airlines Group, partners with payments platform Ayden to introduce more options to the Philippine market to cater different customer needs. This is super convenient!

With Dragonpay, you can now pay for your Scoot airfare via:

1) Online Banking
2) Physical ATMs
3) Over-the-counter cash at banks
4) Cash at retail establishments (supermarkets, groceries, department stores, courier centers, and remittance centers)
5) GCash

This is alongside existing credit card and PayPal options.

Not only with flight bookings, you can also purchase add-ons such as baggage, meals, seat upgrades and in-flight Wi-Fi using Dragonpay.

This payment option is currently only available for bookings made on the FlyScoot website, the expanded options will be rolled out in the refreshed Scoot mobile app by second half of 2019.

"As a low-cost carrier with a global presence, it is crucial that we pay attention to the needs of the local market," said Vinod Kannan, Scoot Chief Commercial Officer. "In the Philippines, many of our customers have shared their wish to have more ways to make payment with Scoot. With Dragonpay’s range of services, our affordable fares are now more accessible, and travelling becomes more convenient."

Aside from Singapore, Scoot flies from Manila to a lot of my 2019 #TravelGoals!
