A Taste Of Bali: Ubud Food Festival + A Little Side Trip!

Hi guys!

So I was supposed to delay this post for another week, but I realized that these are my lighter days already! I have to anticipate the busiest weeks when Bloggers United and my blog work both come in together in a week or a month. I guess better to start the travel blogs now!!

If you're following me on social media, you'll know that I just came home from two consecutive trips, at wala ng uwian. It gets tiring now that I am back in Manila, it's so hard to adjust and go hustle mode again. All I want to do was stay in bed, watch Youtube, go to the gym, do the groceries, and other mindless stuff, hehe! I am still wishing for a week of this routine, but then, work starts tomorrow! 😄 Anyway, the first destination for my Summer 2018 travels was in Bali--and this one came in a bit more unexpected than my Taiwan trip.

I have an unfinished business with Bali, but that's a longer story so I might as well not go through it. I also realized that Indonesia is one of the few Southeast Asian countries that I haven't been to. On my Cebu trip a few months ago, I went to cover the launch of AirAsia Red Talks Part 2 in Hotel Bai. Since it's an AirAsia event, I was expecting that they will be raffling off airfares. I did not win any of that that night, so I gave up all hopes and just enjoyed the fact that I was there in Cebu for free!!

They also announced a posting contest, but I was tinatamad to think of a caption much more a photo to post on-the-spot that night. The prize though was a trip to Bali to join the AirAsia Red Talks episode shoot. I was back in our hotel room after the program, around 15 minutes before the deadline (12mn) of the Instagram contest, when I decided that what the heck! I posted a photo of a sunset by the sea next to the 10,000 Roses where Rochelle and I went to before heading back to our hotel for the event. I still remember captioning the photo with "Cebu sunset, hopefully next time it's Bali's..." I got a big surprise that night when a fellow blogger, Shari of Misty Mom, messaged me that my name was announced in the event, and that I was one of the posting contest winners!!!

With Etienne, a social media influencer from Cebu, who also won the Instagram contest! We were together during the whole Bali trip and I must say she's a really cool girl! We both share a love for street style, and she's always game to take my pics or lend her girly earrings for our "girly Bali look"! Hehe!

So that's the reason why I was in Bali last week! I was there with the AirAsia Red Talks Season 2 crew, along with their host Miss Daphne Oseña Paez. Ang saya coz I was able to meet new people from all walks of life, and at the same time, travel to a new place!!

Our main agenda was the Ubud Food Festival. It's a three-day event, but we only went on the 14th (our first full day in Bali).

We were all staying in Element By Westin Bali Ubud, and had two to three vans to transport us to the shooting locations. When our van arrived at the food festival, Etienne and I were allowed to just go around! Wow! I felt like we were kids tailing with our parents on their work, and were free to roam around! Hehehe. "Anak eto baon, mag ikot ka muna dyan habang nag wowork si mama!" Hahaha!

They gave us a budget to just eat, try the Ubud delicacies, and take our usual Instagram pictures! Hahaha, the life!?? Thank you AirAsia!!

This is one of the many ice cream that we tried that day! I had the charcoal and berry gelato on charcoal cone. So good and perfect for the hot day!

Etienne and I also decided to just chill somewhere, which was my excuse to get my usual iced coffee fix. We saw this booth with a dining area, so I ordered a cup which comes with free slice of cake! Wow!

Here's another favorite (although feel ko lahat naman ata naging favorite ko that day, hehehe). Etienne was looking for the grilled corn we saw earlier. I just had my root canal that week, so I decided to buy something else which is the sweet mangoes on sticky rice with rice crispies on the side. The whole thing was drenched with cold milk, yum yum!

I cannot count how many ice cream and ice pops we had on that trip, hehehe!

A dimsum booth that has vegetarian dumplings so di ko na pinalagpas! :p

Side Trips...

Quirky street signs:

Pretty cafes:

Colorful shops:

Bintang beer!

An Art Gallery....

After spending time at the Ubud Food Festival, Etienne and I decided to go out and explore the area by foot. There were motorbikes and taxis waiting just outside the venue, but we decided not to spend muna kahit na the drivers were discouraging us na 30 minutes ang walk, haha! It was so hot, but my feet were itching to go around so we went for it!

We saw several houses converted into art galleries during our "walk". Here's one of them, with a really interesting exteriors (yup, those are bronze nips! 😅).

We freely went around inside, most of the artworks are eccentric paintings on wood or canvass.

Bali Temple...

We felt accomplished when we finally passed by our first Bali temple! Haha! Those two arch that serve as the entrance to the compound are "very Bali", hehe! According the the signage by the entrance, the name of the temple is Pura Dalem Desa Pakraman Ubud.

Rules to follow before entering include no flash, no revealing clothes during ceremonies, and no women on her period are allowed to enter!! To double check with our outfit, there's a tourist information booth right next to the temple where we inquired. Entrance is free.

It's not a popular temple, but look at those the details! They are so intricate, we even saw men still working on more carved stones at the side of the temple...

Without disrespecting or trespassing any forbidden area in the compound, we also took a few photos while inside. I also Googled the name of the temple, and one blog post was saying that it could be the Great Temple of Death (but the article was unsure).

After a while, we received a message from Steph of AirAsia so went back to the food fest but this time via cab (haha!). The rest of the day was spent trying out more Ubud food before the whole crew wrapped up the day's shoot! We all went to another local resto for dinner, and when we settled on our long tables I concluded on our first night that this trip was meant to end my diet! Haha!

Not everyone's looking but here's my first group photo from this trip!

Special thanks to AirAsia Filipino for having me in this trip, and to Element by Westin Bali Ubud for our lovely accommodation! Watch the AirAsia Red Talks Season 2 on AirAsia's Facebook page! Can't wait for this episode to come out!!!

A Taste Of Bali: DISCOVERING UBUD

This Bali trip is quite short, and I am sure there's more to see and do in this beautiful summer destination in Indonesia. But who am I to complain when I've been given a glimpse of this island on an all-expense paid trip?!! (Read more on how I got this trip HERE). When I think of it now, this trip is actually the kickstart of my summer 2018! Hoping there will be moooore opportunities in the coming weeks! .....

Unlike my past travel posts, sadly I cannot give extensive travel tips on Bali because I was a part of AirAsia Red Talks' group tour. Meaning, I did not plan anything for this trip, but for a change, I enjoyed just following their itinerary and just c h i l l while I explore a bit of Bali's go-to town named UBUD.

How To Go?

Ubud (oo-bood) is a town around 1-1.5 hours away from Bali's airport Denpasar Ngurah Rai International Airport. We took AirAsia's direct Manila to Bali flights, which now flies 4x weekly with a departure time of 6:40pm. Check out www.airasia.com to book promo fares!

We arrived at the airport at around 10:55pm. A mob of tour guides and taxi operators will mob you upon exiting the immigration and bag claim area. Kagulo! I was imagining if I was alone on a DIY trip, baka better ata if I plan on my airport to accommodation transfers beforehand just so I am sure with the rates!

Why Was I There?

The Bali trip came in as a surprise after winning a posting contest during the AirAsia Red Talks Season 2 media event in Cebu. We were there to cover the Ubud Food Festival, but basically, they just let us wander around and enjoy the trip while they shoot! :)

Along with AirAsia's team Steph, Sir Dave, and Nadine, we were also with the crew involved on the AirAsia Red Talks including the host Miss Daphne Oseña. We were a big group, and another separate team includes Sir Jim Paredes!

With my fellow winner, Etienne who is also a social media girl based in Cebu:

It's always cool to meet people who have been in their industry for decades! Fun fact, my sisters and I were named after an APO Hiking Society song "Anna" (which Sir Jim happily sang during one of our dinners in Bali!), while I am a BIG fan of Miss Daphne's show F!!!

Ito ang tunay na "lodi"! Haha!

Almost the whole group!

Where We Stayed?

I usually see villas whenever friends and Instagram peeps go to Bali, so I was surprised when I found out that we were booked in a fine hotel! I love it! It's a comfortable stay in Element by Westin Bali Ubud where all the staff were so friendly, every corner is Instagram-worthy, and we always have good breakfast buffet to look forward to every morning!

Always had a great sleep in our room:

You can enjoy the pool from day to night!

Just outside the hotel, you will already find markets with the usual Bali merch from basket bags to dream catchers to colorful clothes!

Essentials?

Money Exchange: Rupiah

Some of the people I was with had their money exchanged while in our airport (NAIA), but there are also money exchange counters in Bali's airport. Meanwhile, I had my USD exchanged in Bali na, with the help of our tour guide he brought us to a legit money exchange counter.

I wasn't able to try exchanging Philippine Peso to Rupiah or try withdrawing directly in local banks like I usually do during trips, but I saw a few ATM when I was in their grocery so I guess it could also be an option. Just to be safe, I also avoided using my credit card even in stores with credit card ports just because one of us in the group tried hers and nag invalid pin sya but still nabawasan sya according to a text message from her bank. I also attempted to use my card in the grocery but nag invalid pin din so I just paid in cash.

Plug

They have the same plugs and sockets with Korea and Europe--two round pins. Make sure to bring an adaptor or even an extension for charging your gadgets!

Sim Card

I wasn't ready for this trip, so I did not attempt to look for pre-booked internet devices or local sim online. Instead, when we had the chance to walk around on our first day, I was able to chance upon a sari sari store where they cell assorted essentials including phone cords, casings, and local sim card!

Since we're only staying in Bali for less than 5 days, I got the 4.5GB sim card that comes with my own local number and Internet! I was able to maximize the Internet with my excessive browsing (haha) and daily uploading of photos and even Instagram stories! Signal is great all throughout, and I only paid 45,000 Rupiah or Php 168!!

Service provider that I got is called XL / MyXL (navy blue and yellow packaging).

Where To Go? What To Do?

This is our tour guide showing to us the whole map of Bali. It's bigger than how I imagined it to be, we weren't even able to explore 1/4 of it!

As mentioned earlier, we stay in Ubud and also explored just this town with the crew. Unlike the Bali that I know because of social media, I wasn't even able to have a glimpse of Bali's BEACHES and popular CAFES (Motel Mexicola?). What they have though are beautiful temples and shrines, terraced rice paddies and rainforests, and colorful markets. Ubud is more known for their traditional crafts so expect that you will do a lot of SHOPPING here.

1) Tegallalang Rice Terraces

This place reminds me of our own Banaue Rice Terraces! This version in Ubud was said to be passed down by Rsi Markandeyo, a revered holy man from the 8th century. I enjoyed just looking at the Tegallalang Rice Terraces from above, in one of the indie cafes with a lookout.

They also have several offers to enjoy this view including a giant swing or a walk through the intricately designed terraces (with payment / donation to the locals). It was so hot when we were there, I opted to just enjoy the view with my iced coffee + check out some of the local shops nearby.

We availed the free swing in one of the cafes in Tegallalang Rice Terraces. But also in the area you will spot the giant swing with a fee (yung mas mahaba and mataas, with actual operators).

Side shops with usual Bali souvenirs from clothes to colorful cloths to rattan bags and magnets:

Just chilling with my iced coffee:

We asked our tour guide to take our photo together, and he also took a "selfie" with my camera and sobrang liit na namin sa likod, hahaha!

2) Goa Gajah Temple

This is one of the few temples we visited while in Ubud, and I think if there's just one temple to go to on your trip it's the Goa Gajah Temple! It's a complex with both Hinduism and Buddhism imageries, and a bathing temple in the middle. We were also blessed by an old woman in her corner in the complex, and although she asked for loose bills right after (haha) it was a unique experience still.

Entrance to the Elephant Cave:

The Bathing Temple:

So many to see in the whole complex:

Got blessed by the old lady in the temple:

3) Ubud Market

For the whole trip, I tried to look away at all the shops we passed by in all the tourist destinations we went to. THEY ARE EVERYWHERE! But one of the girls we were with who has been to Bali and loves shopping said that we have to be patient (lels).... The UBUD MARKET is the place to be for cheap shopping!

Temples just across the market:

Truth be told, there will be almost similar shops selling almost similar goodies. If this store sells housewares, for sure another store sells exact same thing. A tip though: Look for a store where you will surely buy a lot so you can easily haggle by mentioning that you're buying this amount in their store!

I am fairly good in haggling, but this place will test your patience, endurance, lahat na! Haha! A store owner even grabbed me by the arm, almost pinching, when I was about to leave because her basket bags were expensive! Minsan nagiging 40-50% off pa ang presyuhan nila, magugulat ka nalang!

Another tip: Bring your OG Divisoria skills when you go here, lels! As in, simulan nyo na agad ng 50 off! Then work your way to a compromise. Pede nyo din gamitin ng pakipot scheme, yung aalis kanwari dahil namahalan ka, usually biglang sisigaw yan sabihin kung anong price gusto mo hahaha!

From experience, they are also very very insistent. If you're about to ask for an item's price, get ready to firmly say NO if di mo naman talaga bet. Although ANG HIRAP. They will not let you go till you buy from them hahaha!

But remember, okay lang if you purchase something and may mas mababa pa pala sa iba - this is usually the vendors' only bread and butter and just think of it as supporting them by buying in their store!!

What to expect: Bali house displays and housewares, jewelries, especially weaved accessories and silver, basket bags that are so popular nowadays!, colorful clothes from polo to sarong to dresses, etc.

4) Pura Taman Saraswati

Another interesting temple that we visited in Ubud, the Pura Taman Saraswati is a Hindu temple with a beautiful lotus pond in the middle making it not your usual temple destination. Interesting tidbit, the temple's Hindu Goddess Saraswati is also the goddess of learning, literature, and art. It is a small complex that you can easily go around for 15 minutes, 20 minutes tops, but since it is walkable to and from the Ubud Market, you can do both in one day! They also have a "hidden Starbucks" in the compound, which for me is perfect when it was sobrang wild hot outside!

5) Folk Pool and Gardens

A good sunset destination when in Ubud is their Folk Pool and Gardens, a resto-bar with a pool right smack in the middle! It's like our pool club in Fort, but more chill! We even imagined this concept in La Union or Siargao, it will surely be a hit! Haha!

We don't have our swimwear when we visited, so we just lounged on the sides and had their super good pizza + pink margarita as the sun went down. I enjoyed our short time there since we were a smaller group and was able to loosen up with the yummy drinks!

Watch my Bali Instagram Stories:

A few months ago before winning this trip, the caption for my contest entry started with: "Earlier's sunset in Cebu, hopefully next time it's sunset in Bali."

Dreams do come true, bessy. They really do! ❤

Special thanks to AirAsia Filipino for having me in this trip, and to Element by Westin Bali Ubud for our lovely accommodation! Watch the AirAsia Red Talks Season 2 on AirAsia's Facebook page! Can't wait for this episode to come out!!!

Shopee Korean Shopping List! (Kdrama, Kpop, K-Beauty, etc)

My oh my, this addiction for online shopping has gone wild since I got home from my trips!

First of all, ANG INIT! I cannot take the heat when going out just to buy stuff so I resort to online shopping. Second, I don't have the time to browse real stores (sadly!!!) so dinadaan ko lahat sa apps and sites on my phone whenever I am commuting or before going to bed. And third, TRAFFIC. I would rather stay at home!

Anyway, one of my shopping apps na humahaba na ang wishlist is Shopee! I love that they have almost anything and everything that I can think of, and at super low price at that! It's almost as if I shopped in Divisoria na! They even have free shipping and wholesale promos on some shops and selected items! Download their app to see what I am talking about (available for both Apple and Google stores).

Sharing below some of Korea and semi-Korea related Shopee wishlist! I was surprised that they have most of my must-have items, and even more.

See anything that you also wanted?

1) BTS V Silver Earrings

Something trendy that I wanted to try, best part is it is priced at Php 60 only so hindi sayang if di ko mapanindigan hehe!

2) Bucket hats that are very Dara / K-Fashion!

Not only a cute accessory for this summer, but also protects your hair and face from the harsh sun! I love bucket hats!

3) Heart lamp from Kdrama I Am Not A Robot!

Best invention ever, haha! Will not get over this Kdrama quickly, and I love that Shopee carries a copy of the cute heart lamp already.

4) Silver MEDIUM SM Travel Basic luggage.

To match my small one, perfect for my next trips! Best part is it is 52% off in Shopee!!

5) BLK Cosmetics' new K-Beauty Starter Kit!

Got a few pieces from this collection, and I think I will need more! This starter kit comes with a cute box and stickers.

6) BT21 patches for your jacket, bag, etc!

These are so cute! Also a chance to get creative again, patches are so versatile!

7) Black faux leather fanny pack.

For that Korean street style OOTD. They are also very trendy bags for the past months, so yey for affordable versions in Shopee!

8) All things cherry blossoms, from SEEDS (!) to packagings..

Reminder of my spring trip last month. I wonder if the seed will actually grow in our climate, though! 😅

9) They have authentic BT21 Tata Pillow!

I know it's hard to get legit BT21 merch, so yey that there are Shopee sellers that resell them from Korea!

10) Penguin plushies from Kdrama While You Were Sleeping!

I have the flat one in Miniso and have been overusing it especially when I bring a pillow on my travels. Hindi makakaila na it's mine, haha so cute and unique! I'd love to have the stuffed toy version but medyo mahirap makahanap sa stores, so I was surprised to see it in Shopee!

If you're shopping in Shopee for the first time, here's my Php 80 promo code that you can use for a minimum of Php 400 order! If you're also getting something from my wishlist, do let me know if they're worth it!

Unedited Sample Photos From Asus Zenfone 5Q (aka Asus Zenfone Selfie) + Review

$
0
0

Much has already been said about the Asus Zenfone 5Q, and so through this post, I can only prove why this Php 16,995 smartphone is a MUST for me especially whenever I travel solo!

Here's a quick unboxing I did on my Instagram stories a few days ago:

I thought I was able to save my Instagram stories, but I think some parts of the video got corrupted?? .. Huhu! So anyway, I am posting here some still shots of the phone + a few tech info I also read up about it online.

Here's what's inside the box of a Zenfone 5Q. Box is just white with the usual Asus logo discreetly embossed in silver. Very classy. I got the color Midnight Black, which looks like reflective midnight blue in real life (but must be because my room is blue, hehe). It already comes with the usual compatible earphones and charger cord and outlet, plus the sim card pin. I am an iPhone user so getting a clear case with the phone was a really nice surprise for me! I decided to customize it as soon as I got it.

What this phone is proud of / aka the HIGHLIGHT! :

The Asus Zenfone 5Q has QUAD (four) CAMERAS! Two 16MP main rear cameras, and another two 20MP selfie cameras. This phone also features front and back 120 Ultra Wide View. This is good for taking wider shots or viewing wide videos / games!

Unlock options for the Zenfone 5Q includes Fast Face Unlock, Human Authentication, and what I am using now: the quick .3s Fingerprint Unlock! It can even recognize damp fingerprint!

On the sides:

It has the usual volume control and the power switch conveniently located on the right, and the "barely there" 2 sim cards and 1 MicroSD card slots on the left.

The more the merrier! This Zenfone can accommodate two sim cards, and has an extra slot for extra memory storage:

Photo taken from Asus' web page:

On the top of the phone is the 3.5mm jack for the standard earphones:

It still uses same cord charger as my Asus power bank (USB Type C), thank God, plus it has the usual speakers also on the bottom part of the phone:

Pretty much this phone is longer than my current phone, it won't fit a small purse. Weight-wise, it doesn't make any difference. It is also easy to navigate albeit the larger frame, not an issue for me.

Size comparison with my current phone, an iPhone 7:

How it feels with one hand. Also, this is how the interface looks like when I opened it (including the cute pastels wallpaper!). Very young and hip! It also doesn't have buttons on the screen na, making it look extra sleek and techie. You just have to swipe from the bottom to show the home and back options, and the upper part of the screen for other shortcuts including the wifi, flashlight, calculator, bluetooth, etc.

Also, I really like its wide screen 18:9 feature mainly for photo purposes. I think it's a better alternative to taking 360 or panoramic shots, with just one tap on wide feature from the camera, I can already capture more of the view or take a wefie without much effort!

And with that, sharing the photos I took with the phone during labor day, when my fam went to our ancestral town in Batangas for our yearly Alay.

First take with just the normal selfie mode, impressed already!

Tried the portrait mode and it blurs the background, amazing! It's as if it's taken with DSLR! Also, this is not yet in Beauty Mode but nakaka anti-hulas sya! Haha!

Unedited outdoor photo, you can see the consistency of colors and details:

Using the wefie mode this time with 18:9 frame, and look how I effortlessly captured everyone in the car! I don't even have to all-out stretch out my arms to take this picture with all my pamangkins!

I love Zenfone 5Q's landscape mode for both indoors and outdoors during daytime:

We arrived in the mini chapel at around 5:00pm already. My family do this yearly every May 1, way back when my lola is still alive. We open the alay day (it proceeds for the rest of the month with different family sponsors daily), and the usual program is praying the rosary, praise songs, flower offering, and then pakain right after.

I was able to capture the whole chapel from where I was seated. Sadly, there were lesser attendees as the years pass by. Hopefully we keep this tradition alive, and instil this even to the younger people!

By sunset, the lighting of photos were a bit dark, and photo not as sharp as earlier. This part was when we gave away snacks and treats to the kids who attended the alay.

Closeup shots are still okay for me!

Even outdoors, you have to have steady hands to take a crisp shot. The photos takes a little while to capture, so make sure everyone's steady before moving the phone!

Rear camera during sunset:

Love the sunset in the Philippines! Colors still beautifully captured by the phone:

My Verdict:

The phone is a good entry level phone for me! At its price Php 16,995, it has a very glamorous look and luxurious feel, plus the camera features are very impressive, especially in well-lighted places! I love the wide option 18:9 as it is the best alternative for panorama shots. I can imagine using this for my solo travels where I can take a selfie with a background of where I am, and not just my face on the screen! Haha! Best part is, at the end of the day my battery is still at 61%! This is after using the camera again and again! Zenfone 5Q has 3300mAh battery life which explains why. I wonder if I can use this phone without bringing a power bank na, haha!

Hello Again Taiwan! + Just Around The City | TAIWAN WITH AVA PART 1

$
0
0

As you all know, I went to Taiwan a few weeks ago with one of my blogger besties Ava. We've been friends for a long time, but this is our first ever out of country travel together so I was really excited! We often go together in local destinations or when we wanted to see something just within the Metro (exhibits, new restos, film festivals) and I knew we really click and would make great travel buddies for many many reasons!! We have same interests, same food faves, Ava's so G (my kind of girl), and we are very patient with each other, haha! So this trip is a few months in the making. We bought the tickets on sale the moment we saw a good price online (Php 7000 round trip via Cebu Pac, not so mababa pero pwede na). Other than that, I did not really prepare so much for this trip, and just made a rough itinerary a few days before our flight. It's a given na that since Ava's mom is from Taipei, we already have an instant home during our stay (t i p i d!). Other than that, I said to myself to just wing it!

Anyway, this is a 3 or 4 part blog series of this Taiwan trip! Sobrang excited nako to blog about this but time--always time--is the enemy! Haha! Like Ava, I've already been to Taiwan before so you will not be seeing the usual Taiwan itinerary on my posts. But we tried to revisit some places (like the Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall) well just because they are must-sees. Anyway, here goes the first part of that cray summer in Taiwan!

Behind the scenes, baby! I just got back from Bali and only had a few hours in NAIA before check-in for Taiwan. It was around 3ish am. My original plan as a strong independent woman (haha) is to bring EVERYTHING for this two-country vacation. I was carrying two luggages in Bali. It was during our last day in Bali when I realized na mag eexcess baggage ako sa Taiwan if I bring all the Bali rattan basket bags I bought. Dilemma! Ayaw ko na sana mang abala, but when I asked my parents in our family's group chat, mom said that she was just waiting for me to ask, ako lang talaga ang stubborn HAHAHA.

So at 3ish am, back in NAIA, my parents were waiting for me in Jollibee to get my Bali stuff. We ate a quick breakfast, I handed them my simple pasalubongs, and had catch-up sesh before nila ako sinundo uli to the airport departure. I don't know what's the description for having the best parents, but I knew I have one and I will forever be grateful for this!!!

I was alone again, zero sleep, and mismatched clothes... And have to deal with NAIA's chaos! Huhuhu.

Skip everything to the plane, pls! Haha! We were so happy to get the row 1 seats for more legroom and faster food service, haha! Ava and I also promised to each other that airplane time will be our sleeping time because we are both team insomniacs / team zero sleep at that time, haha! Kaso lang 1.5 hours lang we were already landing in Taipei! 😂

Happiness is seeing the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport again, and it's still as beautiful as I remembered it from 2014! Just a little trivia, I went to the 2014 trip with my sister ng biglaan. It was supposed to be her solo travel experience, but bilang kaladkarin that I am hinirit ko lang one time "Sama ako!", and the rest as they say was history! Haha!

Every time kasama ko si Ate sa trip, ATE sya talaga so she organized everything from itinerary, transfers, to our accommodations. Sya si Ate Bora of Reply 1988, hahaha! Yan talaga ang travel history ko e, sunod sunod lang ako sa gusto ni Ate hahaha! Pero super OC nya, when she sends our travel itinerary prior our flight, sobrang detailed nyan down to the budget to where we will eat to train directions, haha! I learned from the best! Anyway, you can read more about that Taiwan trip HERE.

After all the airport requirements and finding our "lost luggage" haha because it took us a long time to go to the bag carousel from the immigration, our next step is to look for the place where we can claim our local sim before completely exiting the airport. We were able to book for a discounted Taiwan sim via Klook, and easily navigated the booth through the directions from Klook's email.

THE TAIWAN ESSENTIALS #1: LOCAL SIM CARD

Sim Card vs. Pocket WiFi

I think I've blogged or Instagrammed about this so many times na but people still ask so here you go!

1) I choose sim card padin talaga because, first, it is waaay cheaper than getting the pocket wifi. By cheaper, and I mean Php 521 for 5 days for local sim versus Php 138 PER DAY for Taiwan's router. *Price is based on Klook's offerings

2) Convenience! Klook offers Taipei airport pick up for both sim card and router, but with sim card you can THROW IT AWAY after using it, while with the router you still have to return it. They also usually require DEPOSITS pa when you use routers.

3) Just charge one gadget--YOUR PHONE! Or yeah, maybe also your power bank, but that's about it! With routers, you have to charge it pa at the end of the day. Usually hotels or hostels have limited electric ports so you have to bring an extension pa for that. I know that phones get easily low bat when you have data connection with it, but it's the same thing naman when I use my phone back in Manila so no issue.

4) Lighter bag! Because no extra bitbit na gadget!

5) Your very own internet connection! I know mas matipid ang router when you're in a group tapos hati hati nalang kayo, but imagine on a shopping activity or may time na gusto niyo muna mag hiwa-hiwalay, kanino mapupunta ang router? Haha!

Connection wise, both are comparably good. Even off-skirt, in Taichuch, my LTE sim was great! For the sim card, it is also available for 3 / 7 / 10 days, so book one depending on the duration of your trip. Check this page for Klook's Taiwan sim card options.

THE TAIWAN ESSENTIALS #2: EASY CARD

If Korea has their T Money Card, Hong Kong has their Octopus, then Taiwan has their Easy Card! You can easily get this in train stations and convenience stores for 100 TWD. My sister Cea just came from Taiwan earlier this year, and gave her card to me for my trip so ni-refill ko nalang sya sa mga ticket booths sa train stations. It has a Kerokeropi design, so ang cute! I filled it with 2000 TWD na hindi ko narealize ang laki pala (Php 3400+!) haha! So I used it even when buying from the grocery, in convenience stores, when we took the bus, and even for some pasalubong shopping! Sulit naman, naubos ko din hahaha. :)

THE TAIWAN ESSENTIALS #3: TWD or the New Taiwan Dollars

From my own experience, I only exchanged my money to TWD twice during the trip. First was in the airport in Taiwan na where I had my Philippine Pesos and US Dollars exchanged in one of the reliable airport money exchange booths.. So yey some of them accept Pesos!

Second was during our last night and I thought I needed more cash for shopping (hehehe) so I went to a local ATM machine and just withdrew Taiwan Dollars (it's automatic for Master Card or Visa cards, you will just be charged around Php 200 for the international withdrawal).

THE TAIWAN ESSENTIALS #4: TAIWAN METRO APP

For easy navigation, and since most of the time the mode of transportation in Taipei is the subway, download the Taipei Metro app. If you've been to Japan or South Korea, navigating Taiwan's train system is a piece of cake! Haha! I think they only have 8 lines, all color and number coded. Again, since Ava is taga Taiwan, I just let her do the navigation. It's like Ate all over again, haha! But it's easy, just check your app and follow the signs!

So we took the airport train going to the local train lines which is connected to the Taipei Main Station (red line). Prepare to drag your luggage for the transfers, but again, if you've been to Japan or Korea this will be extra-easy for you, no biggie! Hehe.

My favorite part with our train adventures is seeing this sushi bar, which Ava said was a childhood favorite. "Nag babaon ako nyan before!" So I had to go in the store to check it out. For just TWD 10, or Php 17, you can already get a piece of sushi! I filled up my lalagyan with tamago and the one with corn toppings.

OTHER TAIWAN ESSENTIALS:

So aside from the ones mentioned above, just a little note about visiting Taiwan.

First, weather is unpredictable, and you cannot fully trust weather apps on this! When I searched my app prior this trip so I can plan my outfits well, it says that it's going to be hot and rainy. Ava's mom also mentioned that it's already summer talaga. I packed shirts and skirts and short pants, but when we got there it's Spring in Daegu all over again, haha! Bring a JACKET and a CAP even if you think you won't need them, just in case! If hindi naman lumamig, at least you can still wear the jacket at the airport and the cap para shield from the sun, hehehe. Pag nakaka tamad, well, you can always SHOP like me! Hahaha!! May GU sila in Taipei, akkkk!

Number 2, they use the same power outlet (two flat pins) so yey for one less thing to worry about!

And #3, there is also no time difference between Manila and Taipei so walang kailangang adjustments, hehe.

And with that, welcome to Ava's wonderful neighborhood in Taiwan!

From the train to Ava's house you can either take a cab or ride the bus. Their bus stops have this automated signs nadin so you will know what time to expect your bus to arrive! Galing!

TAIWAN BUS TIP: HOLD ON TO THE RAILS THE MOMENT YOU STEP IN! Hahahah! It can be quite a roller coaster ride anytime anywhere, so KAPIT BES!

WHERE WE STAYED

So sorry if I won't be able to give tips on where to stay when in Taiwan because, as mentioned earlier, we had Ava's house to accommodate us for the 6-day trip. Their neighborhood is a mix of chill and chaos because it has local parks here and there but it is also right next to markets where they sell super interesting stuff from food, dried fruits, ukay ukay, etc. I would have shopped there if madami lang kaming time!

On my first Taiwan trip, my sister and I stayed in Ximending area which is comparable to Myeongdong because they have all sorts of shops and restaurants, and a dedicated train station. Other than Ximending, Taipei 101's area is also a good place to stay when you visit Taiwan. Just search for these areas on Airbnb and Agoda, I am sure they have a lot of options according to your budget!

My gosh, I cannot and will never ever stress enough how much SPOILED we were during this Taiwan trip, hindi ako sanay as a strong independent woman, haha! Before our trip, Tita (or Ava's mom) already shopped for our snacks and drinks-- and the quantity of what tita bought will make you think that we're staying there for a MONTH or about to open our mini kombini. Haha!

Here's my view in Ava's home every morning. I love the natural light coming from their kitchen's windows. Nakakarelax. I am the early riser in the household so I drink my coffee in advance before prepping for the day. Again, canned coffee is from our "Home-based Convenience Store" hahaha! See photos below!

 Ang dami diba!!!

Mr. Brown canned coffee:

When we went out, my first meal in Taiwan is CoCo Curry! I know we already have this in Manila, but my first taste from this resto was in 2014 with Ate and it has nothing but good memories attached to it. So for good times' sake... veggie CoCo Curry for Day 1 in Taiwan, it is!

Since we've spent the whole morning in transit, our Day 1 is really just dedicated to nearby tourist attractions.....

CHIANG KAI-SHEK MEMORIAL HALL

If you have to go to just one historical or cultural landmark in Taiwan, then it has to be the Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall. It was created in honor of political and military leader Chiang Kai-shek, the former President of the Republic of China. Other than the huge CKS statue, the compound also has museums and gardens. I enjoyed going around here the second time around, with the cool weather and just to play with the camera! Quotang quota kami sa OOTD dito, hehehe.

How to go: Just go down the Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall Station, red or green line. Entrance is FREE.

Kape pa for team no sleep! Haha!

Garden appreciation:

Hello again, sir!

When self-timer is life, but photo bombers are lifeu! Haha!

We spent about an hour in the vast area, and even saw another Taiwan icon at a distance, which leads us to our next stop....

TAIPEI 101

Known as the world's tallest building in 2004 to 2010 (defeated by Dubai's Burj Khalifa), the Taipei 101 is so beautiful to look at from afar with its modern architecture going on. Inside, we saw luxury shops, restaurants (1st Din Tai Fung), and the observatory. It was a quick detour before deciding to cross the street to its more budget-friendly neighbouring malls, hahaha.

How to go: Taipei 101 also has its own station called Taipei 101 Station, haha, also in Red Line about five stops away from CKS. Again, it's super easy to go around Taiwan!

ATT 4 FUN (MALL)

Just across Taipei 101 is my recommended mall if ever you're in the city. ATT 4 FUN has a ZARA HOME, a legit STUDIO GHIBLI STORE, an ABC MART (sneakers heaven), and a GU branch!

Aside from shopping, you will also enjoy their food section as it proves that Taiwan is home to quirky cafes and restaurants! Photos below.....

Thanks Ava for letting me take your pic by this lighted street hahaha!

Why I call Taiwan the mini Japan: Tokyu Hands and an authentic Ghibli store!

This is just inside the mall, in a small store! Beats my Studio Ghibli Tokyo visit because of the photo ops, haha joke lang of course haha! :D But it's nice to finally have a photo inside the cat bus coz taking pics is allowed!!!

ATT 4 FUN's food floor is aesthetics heaven! Ava and I went around while waiting for her mom so we can have dinner together....

Disco balls and clear lamps:

Old TVs and radios:

Barkadas hanging out in teacups:

As dainty as Alice in Wonderland:

Like dining in streets of an Asian country:

We decided to try out this "Say Juice" juice bar with shower room interiors! Ang creative lang, haha!

It is smaller in actual, but buti nalang walang tao that time kami lang! So we took "for the gram" photos just because! Haha! Thanks Ava for also treating me with a fruit shake!

Spotted: an EXO cup by the counter!

Aura sa showeran when we got our drinks! Hehe! It kind of reminds me of Pink Pool Cafe of Seoul, but smaller. You really dine because of how creative the store is, but forgot na if the food / drink is really yummy HAHAHA! No ragrets, ang cute naman e!

And finally, when tita arrived, we had dinner also in the same mall. It looks very fancy for a normal night, but tita treated us with pizza and pasta and they are all SO GOOD! If there's a summary line for this whole trip siguro isa dun is ANG SARAP NG LAHAT NG DINNER NAMIN WITH TITA WALANG TAPON! Hahaha!

This was just the start of the end of my diet, hehehe:

Thanks tita for also taking my photo! And for treating me like Ava's sister for the entire trip! Hehehe! ❤

Buying Luxury Brands Online + Trusted Online Luxury Brands Shop LuxonlinePH Opens Physical Store "Bag Lounge" in Alabang!

I have a little secret since end of last year. It's my love-hate relationship for luxury bags! 😅 Okay, I do super love them, but the "hate" part is just because they are addicting and it is not a cheap addiction! Haha!

I only have a few now, and most of them are not store bought. I got them from reliable online shops that sell preloved or barely used items at price tags I cannot resist! Usually they are at 25-50% off pa from the actual price! Some needs repairing or cleaning, napagastos pa ako pero naenjoy ko yung restoration process with Doctor Leather, haha! I know someday I'd want my very own store bought bag complete with receipts and paper bags and all that added jazz, but for now as long as it is AUTHENTIC then I have no issues on getting second hand items.

How to know if the item for sale online is legit? Here are a few tips from experience:

1) Try to compare the photos of the bag for sale from photos from the brand's website. You can also search Youtube for specific bag types and their reviews.

2) Look for authentication indications from the seller. This may include the dust bag, the authentication cards, or the bag's serial number. If there's a receipt where the bag was bought, the better!

3) Look for a friend or a former buyer who can vouch for the seller. Also, if celebrities endorse a luxury online shop, chances are they are selling legit stuff since public figures won't really endorse fakes because this will most likely just to taint their image.

4) If it's possible, and if you have doubts, request to meet up with the seller before purchasing so you can check the item yourself. Iba din pag nakita mo na sa actual. Go with a friend who is also a bag enthusiast so you can both check and double check.

5) There are online authentication sites, but you have to pay. If you really want to be extra sure, this is a really good option. I also joined Facebook bag enthusiast pages (lols) that vouch for each other, or will authenticate a bag for you. It's also nice to have fellow bag lover friends who can detect real ones from fakes. Ask for 3rd to 4th opinion!

Here's a great news if you are also from the south! Yesterday, online luxury brands shop Luxonlineph just opened their second store in Ayala Malls Southpark in Alabang National Road. The store is called the Bag Lounge:

Thank you so much for having me!!

The best part in buying from the Bag Lounge is that they have established their credibility already through the years. Owner Ms. Anna Magkawas started selling designer bags and wallets in 2016. Now she has two stores (one is in Market Market), has expanded to selling shoes, jewelries, watches, and scarves, and have online following from celebrities including former ABSCBN President Ms. Charo Santos-Concio, Gelli De Belen, Kaye Abad, Ryza Cenon, Bangs Garcia, Gwen Zamora, and Maxine Medina, to name a few.

The jam-packed store launch yesterday in Southpark Mall:

Ribbon-cutting and program with celebrity guests Pops Fernandez, Gwendolyn Ruais, Dianne Medina, Rodjun Cruz, Carl McFly, and Maricar Reyes-Poon:

Enjoy, and treat yourself a little bit more this year for all your hardwork? 😊 If you've earned it, and you can finally afford it without getting broke, and you feel you deserved that bag, then live a little and buy it! That's my personal condition that's why naka ban muna ako ngayon after shopping earlier this year, haha! Pag naka ipon nalang na uli! I am sure we have different thoughts on this, so let me know your own take on buying luxury goods on the comment box below! ❤ Or if you have any dream bag right now, or if you're more of a luxury shoes or bags person--comment away! Let's talk about these quality beauts! Hehe!

And with that, ending this post with MORE pictures to tempt you haha--here are some of the brands that are currently available in the store! I am eyeing the Gucci slides in black which I am sure will be overused, hehe! Pag iisipan ko muna, hindi pa ako dumarating dyan sa footwear ... hehehe.

Yehliu Geopark + Ghibli in Taiwan! | TAIWAN WITH AVA PART 2

$

During my first time in Taiwan, my Ate's itinerary revolved basically just around the city including temples, restos, observatories and night markets. Since pass na kami parehas ni Ava dyan, we were both game for nature adventures including this recently famous Taiwan tourist destination Yehliu Geopark.

Sabi ni Ava, she realized that she has been to Yehliu na before, long long time ago nung hindi pa daw ganyang katao. That time wala pang mga harang or red line markings indicating till where lang pwede mag lakad, and definitely wala pang officials na pumipito every time may pasaway na sasandal or umaakyat sa mga bato (hahaha). Iba na talaga ang dynamics ngayon ng traveling! People really go out of their way to take the best of the best pictures, haha! When we went there, medyo nashock ako sa flow ng tao, talagang riot! Haha! To think hindi pa ito ang peak day and hour, so asa "pwede na din" sya!

YEHLIU GEOPARK

Outside of Taipei, Yehliu is in the north coast of Taiwan where (obviously) you'll find the Yehliu Geopark. This landscape is known for its quirky rock formations, almost resembling giant mushrooms. In my eyes, it seems you're transported to another planet if not for the gazillion tourists with their bopping cameras, posing from one rock formation to another. Earthling invasion! Hehehe.

How to go: Take the train to Taipei Main Station, then from there you can take the Yehliu bus (just ask train peeps). The bus ride will take about 1.5 hours. Go down Yehliu, and then just type Yehliu Geopark on your Google Maps for a short (10 minute) walk.

We chanced upon a wharf area, and sobrang ganda nya sa mata so I asked Ava that we stop for a while so I can take art shots. Ang ganda ng weather, I was even able to use my pink GU coat kasi medyo cool but not freezing. I also asked for my OOTD photos from Ava before we proceeded to walking. I later on read online na shooting location daw to ng Meteor Garden?? Hahaha! We weren't intentionally looking for MG locations during this trip so medyo natawa ako when I learned about this! 😂

Finally! The entrance to the Yehliu Geopark! Wala sa kalingkingan of my Korea walks from the bus stop to the park, kayang kaya niyo to! Hehe!

By the gate, there are pictures on the bulletin boards showing the different rock formations to expect inside, but I think wala sa kalahati nakita namin dito! The place seems small, but it's actually HUGE! If you have a lot of time, pwede ka mag trekking if gusto mo, haha! I love that it is also very near the water. Ang ganda sa mata. I was excited to enter and just enjoy the view!

Ticket was sold by the entrance at 80 TWD:

Welcome to planet mars! Hehehe.

Emote emote habang walang tao sa likod, lels!

I saw different pathways and bridges. We just picked whichever felt like a good place to take pictures!

We often found spots where there were totally no tourists, or pakonti konti lang, so yehey!

Feeling lost in nowhere land, hehehe:

Ang amazing lang isipin, that all these odd rocks are but created by the earth's movement.

When we finally found the popular Cleopatra or the Queen's Head, there was a line na inavail nadin namin kahit medyo mahaba. When it was our turn na, we asked the person after us to take our duo photo. Talagang yung angle lang from the line ang best angle to see the rock, pag nasa likod ka or sa side iba na itsura nya--ang galing! After that, we were ready na to move on to our next destination.

Ghibli in Taiwan: Authentic Ghibli Store at ATT 4 Fun + Jiufen

Before I go to our next stop on our second day, I just have to say na sobrang nalimutan ko how "VERY JAPAN" Taiwan is to me back when I went there in 2014! I received a comment online na this is because Taiwan was formerly invaded by Japan. But other than the deep, historical roots, the obvious signs are everywhere! ANG DAMING STUDIO GHIBLI MERCH???

Donguri Republic in ATT 4 Fun

At the basement of the mall right across Taipei 101 is a Ghibli heaven that reminds me so much of either the Studio Ghibli park in Tokyo or the store in Yokohama! It's as if I am back in Japan!

They have the Cat Bus, a sleeping Totoro that makes breathing sounds when you push a button (!), and a No Face photo area complete with props! It's just a store, but panalo ang photo areas. I also had to buy a keychain souvenir since the merch here are guaranteed legit, and just so the cashier peeps won't think we just went there to take pictures! Haha!

How to go: Go down Taipei 101 Station, and cross the street to the ATT 4 Fun mall. Donguri Republic is in basement 1.

It looks like a forest, and when you peek inside the giant tree...

...You'll see the sleeping Totoro!

Finally, a Cat Bus that can accommodate even adults! Akk!

Ava needs a photo with No Face from Spirited Away! Hehe!

Studio Ghibli comics and CDs! What a collection!

So tempted to hoard, haha:

Jiufen 九份

Back to our last stop for our second day, we were running late as we started the day late, and we also just took our sweet time with our lunch after Yehliu (in a convenience store, no less! Haha!). It's okay though, we had one more destination that we can go to... And it's what they call"the inspiration for Studio Ghibli's Spirited Away"....

Jiufen, also located in Northern Taiwan, is formerly a gold mining mountain town built by the Japanese during the occupation. It served as Japanese prisoner of war camp where soldiers were forced to work in the gold mines. Till now, you will see the maze of alleys and unchanged buildings with evident Japanese architectural influence.

How to go: From Yehliu, we took the bus again going back to Taipei Main Station. Take the train to Zhongxiao Fuxing Station (Brown / Blue line), and then go out Exit 2. Take Keelung Bus 1062 to Jiufen. Just ask the train peeps to clarify, usually there are local volunteers who help out tourists at the stations! Nakakatuwa. Bus fare is about 100TWD, I just used my Easy Card to pay.

It was already night time when we stepped out of the bus. May time na na-a-are we there yet? na kami ni Ava sa haba ng bus ride, haha! I think it took us about an hour or so. I also think that the delays of the day were blessings in disguise. I usually just see pictures of Jiufen during the day... When actually, it has that real Spirited Away vibe at night with all the red lanterns casting a faint light on our dimmed paths to the famous tea house... (teka ang lalim! hahaha!)

The dogs of Jiufen! Super sikat pala sila sa lahat ng naka punta na dito, haha!

Still, Studio Ghibli spotted here and there!

Up and down we go, just following the crowd and the lights...

I am not sure what the old man holding on a harang na wooden bar saw in us, but he asked where we came from, and then allowed us to go in and then up their tea house...

...Which turned out to be right in front of the popular tea house that inspired Spirited Away's bath house!!!

Perfect view! Thank you to the ahjussi who allowed us to go in!!!

Just one more selfie before heading back to the bus!

Back in Taipei / Dinner

We took the same route heading back from Jiufen via bus to the MRT for Taipei. When we arrived in Ava's house, I was BEAT tired from just sitting inside the bus almost the whole day! Ang haba ng mga byahe! It was worth it though, and again, I was excited to see new things in Taiwan and these are all but part of it.

We just stepped in Ava's house, when her mom asked us if we want to eat outside in a walking distance eatery that they usually go to. Music to my ears! Of course, why not!? G po ako dyan! Haha ha kapalmuks! 😂

With stomachs rumbling from having just convenience store food for lunch, a bit tired from exploring the whole day, I welcomed these warm, authentic Taiwanese food and hot bowl of rice in my belly as we chat with Ava's mom and aunt on our day's adventures. How the weather in Yehliu was so so good for a summer day, and how arriving late in Jiufen turned out to be better with all the red lanterns lighted up. We went on and on how we felt that luck was on our side just because nakaka good vibes to see even the littlest things this way--yung simpleng hindi ka naligaw, or ang sarap ng nakainan mo--and everything else that comes with traveling you'll hear me and Ava go: "Grabe, ang swerte natin!"Haha!

Alternative Things To Do In Taiwan: Taichung Flower Garden & Rainbow Village | TAIWAN WITH AVA DAY 3

$
0
0

I was really looking forward to this!

On our third day in Taiwan, I woke up early as usual for my coffee. For this out-of-town agenda, Ava's mom will join us on our trip outside of Taipei City called Taichung. Unlike in Korea where transportation system is pretty much consistent whether you are in Seoul, or in Busan or Daegu, Taichung is pretty much a challenge for a first timer. Maybe it's like Jeju where there are not much train stations that will drop you near the tourist spot? Anyway, get ready for cab rides or walkathons!

GETTING TO KNOW TAICHUNG

This nature city is located on the western side of central Taiwan. The Taiwanese aborigines originated in Taichung, so maybe that's where the theme park name came from (we also went to this theme park the next day for Klook!). I only realized it the next day on the way to the tour, that we went to Taichung TWICE in this trip! Taipei to Taichung takes around 2.5 hours by bus, so it's as if we went Manila to Tagaytay twice for this trip! Haha! 😅

HOW TO GO TO TAICHUNG FROM TAIPEI

I wasn't able to fully discover the routes myself because again we were with Ava's mom so she's pretty much in charge of the navigation since Tita lives in Taiwan and can speak to the other locals for directions. We still got lost and had major boo boos here and there because what is a trip without those?? Haha! Anyway, here are the different ways that you can take, and some side comments from my experience.

SLOWEST : BY BUS

I guess going to Taichung from Taiwan by BUS is the most affordable means at 220 to 260 NTD, but it is also the slowest at 2.5 hours travel time. I read online that they also have overnight buses, which I think is the best option for those who want to spend one full day in Taichung. I have no experience on this so I have no other information, but you can check more details like bus routes and fares on this page.

FASTEST : BY HIGH SPEED RAIL (THSR)

Taiwan's own bullet train reminds me of the ones I took in Japan and Korea! Very impressive. We were able to ride this just because na no choice kami with the time, having early call time for the tour the next day. This is so convenient though, it cuts travel time in half (from 2 hours, 1 hours nalang or even less). But it is also pretty expensive at 700 NTD (Php 1200) and that's just one way! Payment is in cash or card, they do not accept Easy Card.

WHAT WE TOOK : TRAIN (TRA)

This option has the more practical price at 375 NTD or Php 660 one way, but it still takes around 2 hours travel time. If you're not in a hurry, then this is the way to go! Having experienced both the bullet train and this regular train, there is not much difference in terms of comfort and seats, okay naman parehas. Payment scheme is also cash or card, while Easy Card is also not accepted here.

So going back to our long journey to the Chungshe Flower Market (or Zhong She Guan Guang Flower Market), so we got down in Taichung Station only to realize that we still need another bus ride to our target destination. Tita asked the train peeps for help, and they suggested that we take the train again but this time go down Houli Station, before taking a taxi. If you are taking the TRA, you can drop off Fengyuan Station which goes before Taichung Station.

I have read online that a blogger just walked from Tai'an Station to Chungshe Flower Market, but this will take a whopping 30-minute to walk, so I guess I will suggest talaga to just be prepared for taxi rides when you go to Taichung!

Take pictures of maps so you know hindi ka pa lumalagpas! They also have a lot of train volunteers that you can ask for help, they are super willing to guide you! As you can see, Fengyuan goes before Taichung Station:

To me, not much difference ang experience ko with their regular train to the bullet train. More of the travel time lang talaga nagkaka talo, unless siguro you book business class!

Btw, they also have a "chance passenger" option because their trains do get full! If you are pressed with time, then this is an option. Palipat lipat ka nalang ng seats when the ticket holder gets in the train, or may time din na we just stood for one hour just so we get back in Taipei on time!

Some Train Thoughts and Tips:

1) Bring baon! Haha! Sisiw sakin ang 2 hours when I have something to eat, lalo na when you haven't eaten your breakfast! Bring water too! They have food carts going around from time to time, pero mas masarap and tipid padin mag baon!

2) Stay alert! Although tempting matulog, the train has several stops and nakakatakot pag lumagpas!!

3) They do have toilets inside the train, so yey!

4) Great leg room too, so yey! Best to get the window seat for the view (as always).

5) If you can, get a taxi that will package your tour around Taichung so you can go to several destinations in just one day!

Where To Go In Taichung?

Here are several places that you can visit on your trip to Taichung. If you're going DIY and have a full day, then you may get to 2-3 of these. We arrived in Taichung way past lunch time already, so we were only able to go to two (Chung-she Flower Garden and Rainbow Village) and that's with a help of taxi pa haha.

1) Chung-she Flower Garden - Bus 91, 264, 265, 270, 271, 272, 275-279

2) Xinshe Castle - From Taichung Station, take Fengyuan Bus No. 91, 264, 265, 270, 271, 272, 275, 276, 277, go down Shinshe Zhongxingling. Walk for 20 minutes.

3) Lavender Cottage - From Shinshe Zhongxingling, travel shuttle bus for Lavender Cottage.

4) Rainbow Village - From Taichung Station, take Bus 27, 29, 30, or 40 to Lingtung University.

5) Sun Moon Lake

Honestly, I hope that travel app companies like Klook create a Taichung tour nadin in the future since it is already becoming a popular Taiwan destination. Maybe the tour can actually go to all five of these places in one day! Will make life simpler, haha!

Here's the taxi driver that we were lucky to meet in Chung-she Flower Market. He drove us from the rainbow village, then to the train station at 1500 NTD or Php 2640. Mas magaan and practical since group kami, but when you are traveling solo baka medyo mahal sya.

You can see his mobile number in this photo, in case you have a local sim on your trip and might want to book him! Super nice and honest ni lolo, super recommended! He is also very trusting by not taking our payment muna during the whole trip, we paid him when he dropped us na on our final stop at the train station.

Sayang we met him na on our last stop, but just to give you an idea, lolo said that the usual "kontrata" pricing for 12 hours taxi service in Taichung is about NTD 4000 (Php 7000). Again, mahalia but more convenient and mas makakarami ka! Perfect if you're with a big group.

He has a photo album inside the car with his other tours around Taiwan:

Chung-she Flower Garden

Also called the Zhong She Guan Guang Flower Market or Jhong-she Flower Market, this place is basically a HUGE garden with different types of flowers per area. They also have photo set-ups like the famous pink piano in the middle of the lavender field, a red truck for the red floral field, etc. So basically, it is a photo session when you go here! Don't forget to go further for the sunflower field, and also to take a good look at a distance to see the nice mountain backdrop!

Btw, there are flowers all year round so there's nothing to worry about. Entrance Fee is NTD 120 per head.

We entered the Chung-she Flower Market at around 3ish already. Grabeng na-late na kami noh coz we really got lost! It was the golden hour naman na, so I see it as a positive thing lending us a perfect lighting. Hindi din hulas on that cloudy day so in a way, still feeling the lady luck is on us!

There were few groups of people in the park when we were there, so we had the chance to take photos without photo bombers! Haha! I cannot imagine it on a weekend or during peak seasons! Anyway, we were pressed with time, so we just jumped from one field to another. No time to waste!

Pls notice the mountain at a distance, what a beautiful backdrop for the lavender fields noh?!

Sarap mag emote dito! Super ganda naman talaga. :)

Nakakatuwa na ang dami nilang paandar! Hahaha!

Realization: This is much bigger than most flower fields I have been to already! Minsan you play with camera angle lang, but eto malaki sya talaga! Although you will still need to angle a bit para di masyado kita mga tao sa likod, haha! And as expected in a flower farm, ang daming bees!

I've never seen so much real sunflowers in one place! One of my favorite flowers!

Ang dami pang photo set-ups here and there, but hinayaan na namin yun sa kanila! Haha! Maraming couples and families. I think this place is perfect for prenup photo shoots! Also, nakakatuwa na the place even considered the best angles for your photos. May makikita ka biglang monobloc chair sa gitna ng field, only to realize na AH! DUN TATAYO ANG PHOTOGRAPHER! Hahaha!

Hindi masyado mabenta si drums set compared kay piano, hehehe:

Eto palang, super sulit na binyahe to Taichung!

Rainbow Village

Again, hindi pala malapit ang Chung-she Flower Market sa Rainbow Village. The taxi ride felt about 30-40 minutes din a! Again, it pays to get a trustworthy cab driver for your Taichung journey so you can relax during the ride. Open your Google Maps so he knows that you are alert as to where you are heading.

Anyway, so the Rainbow Village has an interesting story. Also known as the Caihongjuan Village, the whole place was painted by just ONE MAN--a war veteran Mr. Huang. The Rainbow Village is one of those former veterans villages the government was about to be tear down, so Mr. Huang decided to paint animals, shapes, and colors on the houses one-by-one.

Whether sadya niya o hindi, his strategy worked! Pretty soon the place got the attention of the locals, THEN even the tourists, so the government decided to suspend the demolition and retain this new attraction! I am in love with this concept, and you know what, wala kaming binayad ni isang sentimo to enter this work of art!

Photogenic corners here and there... Don't forget to look down!

Like the Chung-she Flower Market, the Rainbow Village is a cute photo location! Enter the narrow alleys to the inside houses, and find a spot for your OOTDs! I saw several food stalls by the back of the village, and a souvenir shop in the middle. Other than that, it can be just a quick stop-over.

This is the souvenir shop that sells small versions and merch based on Mr. Huang's artworks:

Nakaka GV yung place noh? Without even know its history, naappreciate ko sya for being so extra!

A playground by the entrance:

In another life, maybe this is how my house looks like!

Our cab driver dropped us off Fengyuan Station, which is the nearest station from the Rainbow Village at about 30 minutes via car. Then we rode the 2-hour train again back to Taipei:

We ended the day with a good pizza - pasta - salad dinner in another tita-approved resto, before we maximized the night with a stop-over in Shilin Night Market!

Super kaduper sarap ng pizza nato:

Kami nagsara ng resto because we came in so late! Haha! But super sulit ng food, after the tiring day ang sarap ng good dinner.

Go down Jiantan Station (Red line) for the Shilin Night Market:

Basically, it's Myeongdong all-over again! Hehe! They have clothing stalls, cute stuff stalls, stores, food kiosks, etc. If I have all the energy, I can shop here for hours so buti nalang pagod ako lols!

RECAP: Budget to Prepare:

Train - 375 NTD

Entrance Fees - 120 NTD

Taxi Package - 4000 NTD / 12 hours (this is not fixed, but just to show you how much we were charged so you have an idea on your own trip!)

What Is Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village? Sun Moon Lake?? | TAIWAN WITH AVA PART 4

$

This trip went by so fast, on our 4th day we were speeding again for the train station for our booked tour with Klook. I did not expect this although I was the one who put together the itinerary, we booked TWO DAYS to go to areas that are both in TAICHUNG! Haha! Kulang ako sa research talaga for this trip!!

Anyway, so we went about with the route we took yesterday, but instead of taking the ordinary train, we pushed for the bullet train because we have an early call time for the tour!! And so that's just one comment I have for this tour, the pick up is in Taichung Station na. Hopefully next time they have something man lang na mula Taipei may ride na to make life easier. :) Besides, most tourists or their market manggagaling naman talagang Taipei.

Again, the bullet train from Taipei to Taichung is worth 700 NTD or Php 1200 just one way. Medyo mahalia, but convenient coz 1 hour lang ang travel time.

Again, not much difference in terms of comfort ang bullet train nila vs the regular, 2-hour train. So if hindi naman nagmamadali or maaga kayo nakaalis, then you can just take the regular train for only 375 NTD or Php 660.

We easily spotted our tour guide in Taichung Station since he gave the exit number as our meet up point. We had time to eat our breakfast before going here. Kokonti lang kami, around 7 tourists + the tour guide who is also our driver. Sadly, lahat sila nag Chichinese so medyo nakaka off that he is not even translating his directions and kwentos in English. Huhu.

Medyo masikip din kami since we're in a van lang, dalawa kami ni Ava sa harapan katabi ng driver lol. It's okay if mabilis lang ang ride, but nakatulog pa ako so maybe it took about 40 minutes drive pa to Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village. Madami na akong na-try na tour groups sa tanang travel life ko haha, but this one is so-so if not medyo meh, haha! Aside from not translating what he is saying in English, wala din small initiatives like free water bottle man lang. Lol, or maybe demanding lang ba ako??? 😄

Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village

All is well though when we arrived at the Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village. In all honesty, I signed up for this tour not knowing what a Formosan Culture Aboriginal Village is, haha! I picked this activity because it has the SUN MOON LAKE in the itinerary, a place I've read and dreamed of going to around 2-3 years ago when I was planning my spring trip to Taiwan. They said that Sun Moon Lake is one of the best cherry blossom sighting location when you're in Taiwan.

So anyway, the Formosan Aboriginal Village is actually a THEME PARK!!!

What makes it unique is that the Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village reminds me of Korean theme parks like Everland and Lotte World where they do not need popular characters to make it an enjoyable experience. They just have the coolest gardens, the scariest rides, and a few shows here and there to entertain their guests the whole day!

I read up online that Taichung is actually where aboriginal Taiwanese lived a long time ago. I will not dwell on too much info and history, but I realized that maybe that's why they named this theme park as such?! In short, medyo hindi tunog theme park, haha! But all good ~ when you go inside the Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village you'll get a mismatched, interesting mash-up of both cultural and modern entertainment!

One of our first rides was the Monorail, which just goes around the compound. It's a nice way to scout nadin where to go next.

Mid-day, we were also able to try the water ride, and it was so much fun!! Para syang Log Jam ni EK, grabe nakaka miss mag rides, haha! Don't worry if you have gadgets with you and wala kayong dalang extrang damit. First, they have coin lockers by the entrance of the ride so we left everything there. Second, yung mga asa unahan lang naman nababasa talaga aka ME hahaha!

They have cultural shows listed on the map, but medyo nahirapan kami to look for the different stage.  To be fair, malaki sya a! We accidentally chanced upon just one of them right in front of the entrance of the water ride. Watched for a few minutes before heading in, and I saw that they let the audience wear their trad costumes and taught them a few cultural dance steps.

Photo corners here and there, sabi ko sa inyo sobrang random ng theme dito! Haha! Ang kulit!

I know that spring in Taiwan is earlier, at around February, but medyo slightly umasa ako na may cherry blossoms pa. We walked around looking for the "cherry blossoms forest" but was told by a roving personnel na wala na talaga. Huhu.

At least pink padin!! Hehe.

Our finale ride, and akala ko ready ako for anything, was the UFO. It's their "drop" ride said to be the tallest in Taiwan!! Akk! 😁 Walang kapila pila so it was our turn na agad when we got there, hehehe walang hinga hinga at pacing. Actually, we can even go for a round two parang dun sa water ride (lol) but no thanks okay na muna isa! Haha!

And of course, food is abundant as with any theme park! Price is ok naman, and best part is may vegetarian meal sila - na madalas wala sa theme parks!! Yey!

Sun Moon Lake

This was actually our first stop in the whole theme park. Naisip namin to look for the cable cars na agad for the Sun Moon Lake habang wala pang tao. Turns out, it's a pretty chill day all throughout. Never kami nainip o pumila, which is extra extra points for the whole experience!

So the two-way cable car ride is free for all, or technically already part of the ticket / tour. There's an option to get the clear glass car hanggang flooring, so we opted for that para cool. I am not so afraid of heights, so I enjoyed the view from the different angles of the gondola. I love the lush greeneries on this side of Taiwan! I even got a comment on my Instagram stories na parang nasa computer game lang daw ako--it seems unreal when you think about it!

We passed by a few constructions, so mag eexpand and lalaki pa talaga this theme park:

The Sun Moon Lake. Hello, finally! ❤

Heading down.....

A few fun facts about Sun Moon Lake:

1) It is the largest body of water in the whole of Taiwan, popular for its clear blue water and picturesque mountain backdrop!

2) Around the lake is home of the aboriginal tribes of Taiwan, the Thao tribe.

3) Where the name came from: East side of the lake resembles a sun, while the west side resembles a moon!

4) They also hold an interesting festival here every Mid-Autumn, where more than one hundred swimmers plunge into the Sun Moon Lake and swim 3KM across!

5) You can also see the Wenwu Temple or the biggest temple on the Northern bank of the lake.

Spot the torii gate, another touch of Japan in Taiwan:

European Palace Garden

Our final stop before we headed back to the van is right next to the theme park's entrance. We already spent long hours in a garden the day before so this was least of our priority, but when we saw it, it's also so so beautiful to resist! It started to rain when we were taking photos in this huge park, but again, no rain can ruin Anagon's parade! Haha!

Ang ganda noh!? It's so hard to appreciate it while we were battling with the on-off rain, and constantly checking the time baka ma late kami sa call-time. Maybe this is just one of those moments I do not regret being trigger happy. Ang sarap balik-balikan! ❤

The mag-ina found a cute shade while it was raining:

Will never get tired of lavender fields:

Wenwu Temple

A quick stop-over before our tour guide dropped us back to the train station, Wenwu Temple or Sun Moon Lake's temple is just one of the supposed two in the area. It was rebuilt in the 60s after being torn down along the other one during the Japanese colonial government.

We had no temple visits for the trip, so I welcomed the quick detour just for the change of scenery.

Dinner at Jamie Oliver In Taiwan Resto!

We got back in the main city with just an hour in the bullet train. We were chance passengers since it was rush hour, and tita had restaurant reservations that we cannot miss so hindi na din kami nagpa late. It's my first time to take a long train ride standing up, but well trained ako sa Alabang buses pag really bad day and gusto ko na maka uwi so naka tayo din talaga, haha! I just transferred camera pictures to my phone and started editing, and in no time asa Taipei na pala kami!

Hallo chef Jamie Oliver!

I am honestly not familiar with Jamie Oliver, but I learned from Ava and even my Ate that he is a popular chef and super big deal to dine in any of his resto and try the foods. I was so excited to eat!

We ordered A LOT and walang talo naman talaga. I even had the best caesar salad in my life, drowning in feta cheese that satisfied my cheesy heart hehehe.

My First Love, Ximending

We ended the day in my favorite Taipei destination back in 2014, during my first time here. Ximending is a shopping and food destination where I was introduced to Taiwan street food, Mala Hot Pot, Airbnbs, Coco Curry, cheap shopping, and even ABC Mart! Before Japan and even Korea, I fell in love at first sight with Taiwan!

The Titas of Taipei treated us with Taiwanese street snacks and drinks even though we were still full from Jamie Oliver. Can't say no to that since it's already our last night! I also went separate shopping for the rest of the night so I can buy panindas and pasalubongs, and also to look for last minute gifts for Ava. Clock was ticking, and it was almost 12mn!

We celebrated Ava's birthday on the train, and I felt a bit sad and disappointed at myself at hindi ako ready. Usually madami akong paandar for a friend's birthday but super nabusy na sa trip, and hindi na ako nakakita ng gift in Ximending na hindi pilit, huhu. I tried na makabawi by being the first one to greet Ava offline and online, hahaha, and of course the next day naka bili na ako ng simple gifts for her.

Last few thoughts before ending this post:

1) The Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village is recommended if you really plan to go to a theme park on your Taiwan trip. May minor boo-boos lang that needs improvement from the tour, but overall it's an enjoyable experience naman lalo na if ma rides and nature trip ka. They have everything in just that one area--rides, gardens, temples, nature!

2) I can't get enough of all the foods we had during this trip, and this is all thanks to Ava's mom! Wala akong inulit from my 2014 Taiwan trip, so yey for trying something new. Also, we tried both sides of the spectrum, from street to Michelin star, and super appreciate that I get to enjoy them all in just 5 days in Taiwan!

3) I appreciate the simple friendship I have with Ava. She and her fam welcomed me in Taiwan as if I am already family. I never felt deprived especially sa food and especially na vegetarian ako! I am forever grateful for this, and although hindi ako naka prepare for Ava's day, she said that it's no biggie and ang important is andun din ako, present sa Taiwan to celebrate with her. HUHUHU. I really don't know why I am blessed with this friendship but I thank God for this everyday!

Baby Let's Cruise! + Recap of Alternative Taiwan Itinerary | TAIWAN WITH AVA PART 5

$

The past days in Taiwan had been pretty eventful, we were always on the go and out of town. So on our last full day (flight home is already that night / madaling araw) Tita suggested that we just stay put in Taipei. It's also Ava's birthday so I just let them decide on what we can do to fully maximize the last hours of our trip.

Tita decided to bring us to a wharf just a few minutes from where we're staying. It's also na-ttrain, so heading there is easy and chill. Here's how our day went!

(you know last day na ng trip ko when I am wearing patche-patche / randomly put-together outfit na hahaha)

If you're to ask me on-the-spot for my favorite place in Korea, the first thing that will always come to my mind is the Hangang Park / Yeouido Park. There are many many more amazing scenes in Seoul, but I think I fell in love with the park when I first went there for my E-Land Cruise. While walking for the port, I can't help but notice how most of the people in the park are locals. This is where they hangout, this is their form of weekend activity with their barkada or for a date or with their family. The mundaneness of this is so relaxing. In Little Mermaid's word, wish I could be part of your world! Haha!

So for our last day in Taiwan, Tita brought me and Ava to one of the youths' weekend park called the TAMSUI FISHERMAN'S WHARF. It's not in the usual itinerary of tourists, but it reminded me of my Hangang / Yeouido Park feels. Locals were there to unwind with loved ones. They have small stores selling cute knick knacks and Taiwanese street foods. They also have street performers from crazy costumes to playing good music to dances. They also have a cruise so we can cross to the other side for the Lovers Bridge of Tamsui.

Ang saya noh? I love the hustle and bustle vibes of these places! We were able to buy a few more pasalubong and personal souvenirs in the small shops. I also learned online that most Taiwanese TV dramas were shot here!

How To Go: Take the train red line to Tamsui Station.

Tita bought tickets for the boat ride, yey! Wala naman syang time or sched, as long as we ride it within the day. Round trip fare costs 120 NTD or Php 209.

It's just a small boat with a few indoor section with chairs. A lot of us just stayed outside, with the view, since I would prefer the fresh air + to take pictures nadin.

Barely 30 minutes, and we're finally on the other side where we spotted the Lovers Bridge of Tamsui right away! They say that it is even prettier at night! When we crossed the bridge, I saw several European-style buildings nearby, parang castles?

There's also a bridge for just sightseeing and chilling, so we crossed it just to see what's on its end. There are people just staring and enjoying being next to the waters.

Lunch @ subway:

Medyo natakot ako dito, haha:

Tried this Myeongdong ish long ice cream, and hindi ko sya maubos! Sobrang tunaw na tunaw na sya wala pa sa kalahati, haha!

Ang galing nitong si Kuya:

Indian Dinner @ Saffron

Time was ticking till our flight back home, so after last minute shopping, we had a fine dinner in one of Tita's wish list which is another Michelin star restaurant. Saffron serves Indian food, so I am sure that they have lots of vegetarian options. I had two viands, one is made of chickpeas and one has these veggie balls in thick yellow sauce that tastes so so good and tastes like no other! Super satisfying last meal in Taiwan, thank you very much Ava and Titas for the treat!

We ended the day of course in Ava's home, packed and weighed our bags one last time, before the Titas called us in the kitchen to blow Ava's birthday cake. The candle says 30, although she's still 29, because Chinese calendar daw haha! We sang her a birthday song as I recorded the fam, and then we took some group photos, before we pulled our bags outside for the airport.

It was bittersweet to leave, and felt like a short stay.

When’s The First Time You Used Contact Lenses, and Why I Will Now Convert To Alcon Dailies

$

I've been a long time wearer of contact lenses. I've tried a lot of them, from clear to colored to monthly to yearly. I cannot imagine going out of the house without them.

I haven't really gave daily contact lenses a chance, but after trying them out and learning more about Alcon Dailies (DAILIES AquaComfort Plus) during its launch last May 15, 2018 in iDarts BGC--I think I'll become a convert!

Sporty Chic OOTD for the event:

Upon entering the venue, iDarts, I saw fellow bloggers and vloggers playing darts! This is a big test of one's eyesight!

In another station, we were also able to try Alcon Dailies! They have it in my grade which is 2.25 (near sighted). Without my glasses or contact lenses, everything's a blur!

I remembered the first time I bought contact lenses. I was wearing eyeglasses since Grade 5, but on my 3rd year in high school I wanted to get rid of the specs for PROM NIGHT! Haha!

In college, I also tried colored lenses for the first time and felt instant confidence boost. I've tried both brown and gray lenses, and felt that it made a big and surprising difference every time I have them on. Aside from vanity purposes haha, it is also easier for me to move around with my contact lenses compared to wearing eyeglasses. I can do water sports or travel in any climate without thinking of breaking my eyeglasses, or fogging my sight every now and then (super hassle nito for glasses wearers!).

“For many teenagers who wear prescription eyeglasses for myopia, also known as nearsightedness, moving to contact lenses is a rite of passage.2 Contact lenses that provide comfort, convenience and enhanced vision can make this important milestone a positive experience for teenagers,” said Dr.Carmen Abesamis-Dichoso of Abesamis Eye Center. Dr. Dichoso is known in the field of optometry for her advocacy on contact lenses.

“Having to wear eyeglasses in school, during social activities and while playing sports was really tough for her,” says Callie’s mother, commercial model Dimples Romano. “Fortunately, I heard about the Alcon ‘freedom’ contact lenses and how safe, effective and convenient it is for teenagers to wear. Thanks to Alcon Dailies contact lenses, Callie now has more confidence and more freedom to move, enabling her to reach her full potential as an athlete, student and young woman.”

“I live my life to the fullest—from tapings, shopping, traveling, and playing sports. Alcon Dailies contact lenses will surprise you at how comfortable, convenient, and affordable contact lenses can be,” said athlete and TV host Gretchen Ho.

Here are my personal reasons why I might convert to Alcon Dailies!

1) It is more hygienic to wear daily contact lenses! You throw them away at the end of the day. Residues and dirts accumulated by the lenses for the whole day won't be totally removed by cleaning solution.

2) No fear of tearing your contact lenses, or losing them! Kahit masira or mawala yan, you won't need that na on the next day!

3) A box of Alcon Dailies has 30 pieces. You just open a pack every time you're going out. You don't need to open and use a pair daily, especially on days you're just at home.

4) Alcon Dailies are aid the moisture of your eyes every time you blink! I think this brand is perfect for travels especially in colder climates where my eyes tend to dry up easily. It felt lighter, and sometimes I even forget that I am wearing contacts!

5) It is actually affordable or almost the same as my expenses for my monthly lenses! I don't even need a solution anymore because there's nothing to clean and store!

I've been intimidated by daily contact lenses because I think they are more expensive than monthly or yearly variants. But a 30-piece pack of Alcon Dailies retails for only P1,495.00

Best news, avail of the Alcon Dailies Summer Promo and enjoy 20% discount on two boxes of Alcon Dailies!

Updated Skincare [Night] | April 2018

Sharing this list because my face really cleared up after using these same products in over a month (except during travels). I love experimenting, but this combination really worked for me and a good basis is I did not get any pimples during my period! This is usually given na for me on that time of the month, but since I used these products religiously, I felt my skin started cooperating.

NOTE:Since I've finished most of these products, I tried different brands and variants just because it's so fun to shop and try out a variety of skincare. For the first time in ages I noticed I got a big zit on my forehead! I might go back to the ones featured here!!

CLEANSE

When I get home after a long day of either meet ups, errands, or events, I will clean my face with Neogen's Biopeel+ Gauze Peeling in GREEN TEA. This product is more popular for the wine variant, but for someone with acne prone and oily skin, the green tea ingredient worked wonders on my face! Naubusan na ako nito so I am now using the lemon and wine, but I think I might go back to green tea soon.

How To Use: I thought that this is a no-rinse product for a long time, but buti nalang I encountered it on Joan and Ivan (Korean Youtubers) vlog and learned that you have to RINSE IT OFF! Haha! So use the rough gauze part first, then the cottony pads, then rinse residue with your cleanser. Makeup remover ko nadin siya, and feel ko super clean ng face ko with this combination with my cleanser...

... Which is another Neogen product! I learned about the Neogen Real Fresh Foam Green Tea from Miko Carreon when I was in Korea and he asked if I can pasabuy one for him. I got one for myself too in Olive Young, and I can't get enough of it since! I like its smell (I am the non floral and non citrusy kind of girl hehe), and it foams really really well with just one to two pumps, feel ko na dedeep cleanse talaga yung skin ko when I use this! Plus points is, again, it is the green tea variant that's perfect for my type of skin.

TONE AND MOISTURIZE

As they say, most of the skin's moisture will be scraped off after all the cleansing, so I make sure to use good toner and moisturizer before going to bed.

I've had this Missha Time Revolution The First Treatment Essence for a long time, but I haven't really used it up till now that I placed the product on a spray bottle. It's easier to use it by just directly spraying on my face.

And after that, I go to a little stickier consistency which is this CosRX BHA Blackhead Power Liquid. Feel ko talaga it helped minimize the pores on my cheeks!

The order in any skincare routine, correct me if I am wrong, is to go to the most liquid-y product first, then hanggang sa mas thick or cream product ang pinaka last. So next to the sticky Cosrx serum, I use The Body Shop's Drops of Youth Youth Fresh Emulsion.

This is another product that has been in my arsenal for a long time, but ngayon ko lang sya fully nagamit and naappreciate. It has a lotion, gel-to-water consistency that's not too heavy on the face. Usually, you have to let the product dry and get absorbed by the skin first, before you apply another one on top of it. Anyway, this The Body Shop worked well together with the other ones I layered it with! It has anti-pollution and anti-ageing features, as well as moisturizing features.

Lastly, I top everything with the Mamonde Moisture Ceramide Intense Cream in Hibiscus, another product I bought while in Korea. It is thick, but not uncomfortable at night kahit mainit. I think it gives my skin the right moisture it needs after all the scrubbing and cleansing. Okay din sya for travels, when you go to countries with drying climates. Not sure though where I can get this again after finishing up this tub!

How To Deal With Life's Challenges? | Atom Araullo For Cherifer Premium For Adults

$
0

Hi! I don't know what you are going through right now, but let me dedicate this blog post to you no matter how big or bearable your situation is as of the moment. Whatever it is, what you are feeling RN is valid. And above all, what you are going through right now will pass by through time--making you stronger than ever!

In my case, my laptop of four years broke down in the knick of time--right before a big travel. I don't know how life is going to be like as a blogger without a laptop (haha) but I am taking it one day at a time. I am currently typing in my dad's laptop while he is having his siesta. It's so hard because of the limited time I can use this, and also because I am still not used to using other person's laptop (plus leaving my files and photos here), but what can I do? It's the best temporary solution I can think of.

I plan to go to a "memory retrieval" center to hopefully still get my files (travel photos and videos) before deciding if repairing my laptop is still worth it, or it's time for an upgrade.

Anyway, so what do you do when faced in a situation or a big challenge in your life?
Here are some tips based from my personal experience:

1) Breathe. Take a few hours, or minutes if time is at stake, to think and see the big picture. The worries and pressures will be there, BUT be SOLUTION BASED above all. What can be done? What are you going to do next? It's easier to say do not panic, but make sure to think of the next steps too!

2) Be Prepared. If the next big challenge is something that you are already expecting, like a talk or a new job you are about to plunge into, get two steps ahead! Study, read up, ask around!

3) Call A Friend.  The thing with life is, some things that you are going through right now is already someone else's history (or somewhat similar to it). Look for someone who has been in your current situation before. Ask him or her how they handled everything, and made through the challenge.

4) Self-Care. And above all, never forget to take care of yourself. Stay healthy. I realized that most of my really bad illnesses from the past years were caused by stress! Eat good food, and think positive if you can--even if just once in a while.

Last week, I found myself in the set of Atom Araullo's next big challenge: A commercial!

Atom is known for being the guy who braved violent storms, explored the planet's dangerous places, and he even ventured into film. We all know him as someone who rises up to any challenge thrown his way!

In this season of his life, Atom is doing away with stuntmen for his next action-packed commercial, this time with Cherifer Premium for Adults.

I've never seen him as the sporty type, so I was a bit shocked when I saw the stunts and physical involvement needed in his commercial's ambitious set design! The set is a creative depiction of his workplace, with each part reinterpreted as parts of a challenging obstacle course that would test his strength and strategic skills.

How is he dealing with this next big challenge? As mentioned earlier:

Preparation. Atom has also been going hard on leg exercises, bulking up his upper body, and doing plyometric drills to boost his explosiveness.

Call A Friend. In this case, Atom enrolled for Parkour training with The Ninja Academy's Robby Apelo.

And lastly, Self Care. Atom acknowledges the necessity of self-care to cope with his demanding lifestyle.

Kapag yung work ko strenuous and kailangan talaga ng mental preparation kagaya ng shoot na ito, I always make sure na nakakain ako nang tama, I respect my body's limits, and give myself enough time para makabawi sa pagod (When my work is strenuous and demands mental preparation just like this commercial shoot, I always make sure that I eat a balanced meal, respect my body’s limits, and give myself enough time to recuperate),” Atom shares.

Photo with the man of the hour on the set of his upcoming commercial:

To help his body through every preparation stage, Atom takes Cherifer Premium for Adults, the health supplement that provides more than just multivitamins.

It has Taurine for FOCUS, Ginseng for ENERGY, and Chlorella Growth Factor (CGF) that helps provide nucleic acids to promote RECOVERY through the repair of muscle tissue. Together, these ingredients help in keeping him productive through every challenging day.

Again, you may take all preparations needed, but if you are not in overall tip-top shape, then it's even harder to tackle the challenges head on!

So keep your body, mind, and spirit healthy, and don't forget to keep the lessons along the way.
I AM ROOTING FOR YOU!

OOTD RUNDOWN: T-Shirts, Sneakers, and Transitioning from Summer to Rainy Days

I think I over-stocked on shirts on that day mid-March when I realized that I cannot wear my sweaters anymore (haha). I bought different kinds from plains to dressy, to my favorite the logo tees, and have overused them all throughout summer. Same with my sneakers, rain or shine, casual or formal, I cannot imagine myself wearing any other footwear. For the few who are asking, I usually shop in sports stores, in Zalora (they have authentic Champion and Adidas), and in Uniqlo (plains, prints, cartoon characters). My recent rediscovery is Landmark!

Wearing sneakers underneath this infinity dress for one of my best friend's wedding:
A post shared by Ana Gonzales (@anagon) on

Now that rainy days are here, I still wear my tees layered with either a jacket or my favorite--a spag straps dress. The transition from summer to rainy days calls for more pieces of clothing put-together, but still with the same style I am currently loving - comfortable with a clash of sporty and girly. People might call it "street style", but I'd like to call it "commuter friendly".

Anyway, sharing some of my outfits from the last of summer. As you can see, I am still your serial 'outfit repeater" as I play favorites even with my wardrobe. I hope I made them look "new" every single time by wearing them a bit differently from the last.

TRAVELS

I knew it's going to be HOT in Bali, so I brought unusual stuff that I don't usually wear like off-shoulders, thin polo shirts, and even shorts! I am not fond of wearing shorts! Haha!

Off-Shoulders from Uniqlo, colorful pants from Roxy, slippers from Havaianas, round bag from Rags2Riches, pink luggage from Lipault.

Lemons polo shirt from local brand Lawud, long shorts from H&M, sneakers from Skechers.

Dress from another local brand Simone's Closet, bag from Ubud market, slippers from Havaianas.

When we went to Taiwan, I brought almost all-summer pieces (like Bali) since I knew that Taiwan spring is already over since March (we were there last April). As usual, Taipei proved to be the most unpredictable when it comes to weather, that even our accuweather apps get confused! Anyway, wrong outfits = excuse to shop!!!

Black favorite cap from Penshoppe, shirt with polka dots pocket from Uniqlo x Marimeko, pants with flared deets from SM Woman, sneakers from Skechers.

Pink coat from GU, fisherman hat from Champion (available in Zalora), polka dots shirt from Uniqlo x Marimeko, layered with slip dress from SM Woman, sneakers from Skechers.

Polo bought in Bali, shorts from H&M, Champion hat, Skechers sneakers na paulit ulit ko sinusuot!

EVENTS

I usually get to play around with my style during events. Brands do not require dress codes all the time, so I base it either on the venue or the product they are launching. During the hottest days of the summer, you will often see me in skirts and tees. I just rotate them! Haha! My legs got so itchy and acquired weird rashes that it's hard to wear tight pants.

Hello again to my Uniqlo x Marimeko polka shirt, skirt from GU, Puma bag from Zalora, Ikea socks bought in Taiwan, and my overused daddy sneakers aka D-Lites from Skechers.

Mostly from the boys: Bucket hat from Uniqlo, shirt from Anti Social Social Club (available locally in Popcorn General Store), black jeans from Uniqlo, sneakers from Adidas, bag from Balenciaga.

Wore this outfit to the launch of Vice Ganda's collaboration with Bang Pineda for Vice Cosmetics. Sharing some photos during the event:

The concept: Two lippies in one pretty box set for only Php 395. One is the usual liquid matte lippie that dries fast and stays for hours, while the other tube is the "topper" which has glittery finish.

I think what completes any outfit is your makeup. I love the new line from Vice because they are sooo affordable and creative! You can wear them together, or individually. The glitter topper can also serve as eye makeup or even highlighter. Like in fashion, it's fun to experiment with makeup from time to time!

First time to meet Vice Ganda in person and I must say sobrang standout nya! The moment this top Filipino celebrity held the mic, you know that Vice knows what he is talking about. May laman mga stories nya.

Champion bucket hat, shirt from Tokyo, skirt from Unarosa, belt bag from SM Parisian, smiley socks from Happy Socks, sneakers from Skechers.

Favorite black cap from Penshoppe, new fave white shirt with scallops neckline from Happy Mallows, denim apron dress from Landmark, Nike fanny pack, Skechers sneakers.

Not the usual footwear! Black cap from Penshoppe, Uniqlo x Marimeko shirt, Unarosa maroon pants, ballet flats from sneakers technology from Butterfly Twists.
A post shared by Ana Gonzales (@anagon) on

First time to wear ballet flats, and medyo madami nag comment sa Instagram ko na naninibago sila! Haha!

I won't really wear one if it's not as comfortable as one of Butterfly Twists' newest style from their SS2018 collection. It has sneakers technology making it more comfortable than the usual flats! Plus, yey for black!

If you are more of the colorful and pastels type like my friend Ava, sharing the other styles from Butterfly Twists' recently launched collection, featuring Glaiza De Castro as the new face of the campaign. Follow Butterfly Twists for more!

Special thanks to Vice CosmeticsButterfly Twists, and all the other brands who has been so generous to me!

What are your go-to pieces and style last summer, and are you also looking forward to layering now that it's a bit colder here in Manila? 😌

Updated Skincare [Night] | May 2018

I swear by my April Skincare routine, but found an equally good alternative to it so yey! I tend to be masawain, and love rotating all the products that I have opened already. As much as possible, I want to actually FINISH them before I begin opening new bottles or jars. Ganun din ba kayo?

In this line of work I am usually sent new products to try. Some beauty vloggers will even mention acquiring acne from products that did not worked well with their skin, huhu. Anyway, I feel lucky that so far wala pa namang ultra negative reaction yung mga products sent to me or I personally bought. Sharing my new list of products that I am currently using since last month! I have acne prone, combination skin so these products might help some of you with my same skin type. I had stressful days because of Bloggers United, slept late because I was back to my Kdrama habits, had no time to go to my favorite Flawless facial, but I think my skin remained a-ok!

Before starting with my nightly skincare, I make sure to clean my hands. Medyo OC ako dito since I am going to touch my face. I spritz a few of Human Nature's All Natural Sanitizer in Citrus Burst. It smells good too! I also use same sanitizer before and in between applying makeup.

CLEANSE

Same with my April favorites, I still use the Neogen Bio-Peel+ Gauze Peeling, but this time in Wine. It's my makeup remover nadin, using the rough side first, then the cottony side, before I proceed with rinsing everything with my facial wash. I actually like the Green Tea better for my skin type, but this one's their most award-winning variant and sobrang bango nya.

Since I already ran out of the Neogen foam wash, I tried using Human Nature Pollution Defense Face Cleanser sent to me by the brand with some of their other cool products. I love it! I haven't really religiously used a Human Nature facial cleanser before, but this one worked well on my skin. It is priced a bit steeper compared to other local facial wash (Php 695), but I guess it's worth the price having 97.8% all natural formula.

Some quick facts about the product: It contains bamboo charcoal, moringa seed, and NaturProtect Actives that remove dirt, excess oil, and skin-damaging pollutants. It has vitamin E and passionfruit seed oil for moisturizing and anti-aging, and ok for daily use.

TONE AND MOISTURIZE

After double cleansing, I proceed with spraying Missha Time Revolution The First Treatment Essence (also included on my April favorites). If I feel that my skin went through a lot of dirt or makeup during the day (heavy foundation or sudden commute in EDSA), I use my favorite Cosrx One Step Pimple Clear Pads before spraying the essence. Usually I still get a few dirt off on the pads even after the Neogen and the facial wash!

I think I found the key to keeping my acne prone skin in control, and that is, to CLEANSE the face thoroughly before I proceed with the next steps. And since cleansing might strip off a lot of my facial's moisture, it's not enough to just clean it... and so we proceed with the next steps...

Now on to newer products! I recently discovered Esfolio, a Cebu-based Korean beauty brand, when they sent to me their new Super Rich Coconut line. I've tried all of them at once, haha! In the end, Esfolio's Super Rich Coconut Facial Toner is one of the two that I really love and use every single day. ANG BANGO BANGO NIYA! It has coconut oil, which is new to me when it comes to Korean skincare. They say it's good for tired skin.

How I use it: Usually when it comes to toner, I need to use cotton pads or transfer it in a spray bottle since it's the most liquid in consistency. But Esfolio's Super Rich Coconut Facial Toner is a bit sticky, so I squeeze a dollop on my fingers and just tap the product on my face directly. Again, sobrang bango nya for me it feels comforting to use especially before going to bed. I use excess product on my hands and arms.

Here are the other products included in Esfolio's new Super Rich Coconut line. All the products are priced below Php 800, and available online at https://www.esfolio.ph and even BeautyMNL. I have another favorite from this loot, which I will mention later on!

I am a big Cosrx fan, so when I saw this new product in BeautyMNL I knew I had to purchase and try it! The Cosrx Two in One Poreless Power Liquid is specifically made for oily-combination skin with visible pores, and claims to clear congested pores while tightening their circumference. I haven't seen any significant changes since I used this, honestly, but will continue with it since no negative reaction naman. Will report if there are any changes on my next skincare post!

As mentioned on my April skincare post, allow a few minutes for the product to get absorbed by your face before putting on a new layer. I usually top everything with the thicker cream, and I found a new favorite moisturizer from Esfolio's Super Rich Coconut line. Their Waterfull Cream is the bomb! It is thick but gets easily absorbed by the skin, and same with the other products in this line, the coconut smell is so comforting and gentle!

I end the whole routine by reapplying either of these Vaseline Lip Therapy variants. I love that the jar is so small, because again, I love finishing a product before opening a new one so at least I can try them all without feeling guilty na di ko sila mauubos. Also, they are easier to bring, more hygienic than huge tubs, and I love the smell of the Creme Brule and Cocoa Butter!

Where to get your products:

Human Nature: https://humanheartnature.com/buy/
Esfolio: https://www.esfolio.ph
All products + Neogen, CosRX, Vaseline Lip Therapy available in https://beautymnl.com/

Again, I am not an expert but these products and method worked well naman for me so I am sharing them. I think I owe it also to better and cooler weather, so my skin is getting better than last summer. I also make sure to clean clean clean my face especially when I had a long day out.

Have you tried any of them too? Or will you be purchasing any from this list? Let's talk skincare on the comment box below! ❤

My Lips But Better (MLBB)

Confession time! I am not a lipstick person, sadly! Haha! 👄

With the many colors, brands, and finishes coming out lately, it's so sad that I cannot maximize this wonderful makeup.

I used to be a red or dark lip girl, but recently I like my looks to be more simple. Nice straight brows, red cheeks, glowing skin are my go-tos. But since I just came from consecutive beauty events where they give out lippies, I decided to at least give them a chance and search for a new "everyday lipstick" that may replace my Bobbi Brown Art Stick in Rose Brown! It's my all-time favorite neutral shade (or MLBB), but it's mahalia at Php 1600!

Anyway, here are the four on my to-try list:

Club Clio Rouge Heel Velvet in Good Mauve #10

This is definitely the closest color to my old favorite Bobbi Brown Art Stick in Rose Brown. I love how it feels on my lips, very lightweight as if I have no lipstick on! Packaging is also super pretty where you need to click before pulling out the lipstick tube. It is also shaped like the heels of a pumps, thus the product name. 👠 It might look matte because of the packaging, but it is actually not drying and felt more velvety on the lips.

I got this during the Club Clio x Edward Avila event in SM Makati a few weeks ago. Aside from this shade, they have a lot of Rouge Heel Velvet in pinks and corals. This is the most "wearable" in my standard. During the event, the popular Youtuber conducted a makeup demo with new and classic Club Clio products. I like his tip on using cotton buds to soften the sides of the lips after applying the Rouge Heel Velvet so you don't have a SOLID color applied on your lips if that's also not your style. We also had the chance to talk and take photos with Eddie after the event, where I was able to tell him that I really love his style! Thank you so much for this wonderful opportunity Club Clio!

Mark by Avon Epic Lip Lipstick in Wink of Pink E14

Mark by Avon is the newest Philippine release of the brand during their 40th anniversary. I first learned about this through Raiza Contawi who went all the way to Shanghai to learn more about the brand and the line. I watched all her China vlogs and Avon tutorials!

They say that Mark by Avon is the first lipstick with primer, and it is more moisturizing and long wearing than other Avon lippies. This tube looks nude-pink so I thought it might be the new everyday lippie for me, but when swiped you will see that it is a bit light and sheer with a little sparkle on my skin.

Got this lipstick during the Amazing Avon celebration and trade fair at the World Trade Center a few weeks ago. Congrats on your 40 years of empowering women and giving importance to all your Avon Reps! Aside from Mark, we were also introduced to Kitchen Magik and Mars Ravelo Pinoy Komiks Heroes--just some of the new lines from Avon! We played games and won loot bags while also learning about the brand and their different high quality products.

Pop Beauty Pouty Pop Crayon Tinted Lip Balm in Rose Romance

Third lippie is another brand that I recently just discovered because of the SM Beauty Playground event. During the event, we went to the different participating brands to play and win random makeup and skincare products--some full size some sample sizes.

This Pop Beauty Pouty Pop Crayon Tinted Lip Balm is just one of the full-sized stuff we got that day. It looks like the Bobbi Brown Art Stick, but retractable instead of needing to use a sharpener so definitely more convenient. Shade looks neutral enough for daily use, though swiping it on my skin I realized that it is again a bit sheer and sparkly. Almost the same balm finish with the Mark By Avon, but just a bit darker.

Sharing some pictures during the SM Beauty Playground event at the SM Makati! We got so competitive to win random prizes, but

Some of the participating brands, thank you very much!

We all went home winners, with huge totes filled with makeup, hair care, and skincare products!

Vaseline Lip Therapy in Rosy Lips

And finally, this one doesn't fall on the lipstick category, but it can be an alternative when you don't want to wear one (we all have those days). Vaseline releases small tubs of their petroleum jelly products, but this time they are really dedicated for the lips calling them the "Lip Therapy". The Rosy Lips variant has a sheer red tone, almost not halata, but I like that it smells good + guarantees to moisturize chap lips. 100% will bring this on my travels!

So here are the four shades swatched once on my lips. What do you think suits me more?

Do you have a set of your own favorite daily lippies? Ones with nice shades, comfortable to wear, and with affordable price? Share to me your list, I am still on the look out!

Korea in Uptown Mall BGC: ILAHUI and NATURE REPUBLIC

Surprisingly, I found myself at the Uptown Mall in BGC several times this month. Do not confuse this with the one in QC, this mall is the one nearer The Palace in Taguig. It might not be the most accessible mall from my place, but I like going here because of the unique stores and even restaurants. My favorites for food are Melt, Hello Kitty Cafe, and Shaburi. As for the stores, they have rare street style brands (Anti Social, Supreme) carried by The Nines and Popcorn. I also love the Adidas lifestyle boutique here, they seem to carry more styles.

I had two events specifically Korean-themed both located in Uptown Mall BGC. One is a huge shopping party with wasteland Ilahui, while the other is a new store launch of Nature Republic.

Sharing photos from my visit + my haul!

ILAHUI

One of Bloggers United 15's partners for our recent event is Ilahui. In their Facebook about page, they describe themselves as "your one-stop shop for Korean inspired premium products." In short, they are Korean themed. It's a wasteland of all things cute where, once you've entered, it's impossible to go out empty-handed!

I enjoyed shopping in Ilahui's home section, and can imagine going here when I have my own condo na to decorate it. They also have a huge screen playing Kpop music videos and even Kdrama OSTs, so I sometimes stop from my shopping just to watch, hehehe.

Here are the different sections inside Ilahui at the Uptown Mall BGC, one of their big branches here in Manila:

Got so confused by the amount of cuteness in their plushies and pillows area:

For fashion finds, they have nice bags that actually look sturdy, trendy sunglasses, hats and caps, and small purses like wallets, pouches, and vanity kits.

They have canvass bags with zippers, backpacks, cute socks (I like the sporty style with numbers), hair clips, baseball caps and scarves:

For beauty, they have several stuff from their bath and body section, nail polish for only Php 99 for 2 bottles, sheet masks, all sorts of makeup products:

In the home section they have boxes and containers, home decors like clocks and frames, bedroom slippers, small towels, hangers, tech stuff like headset and earphones and battery sets, and kitchen sets like glasses, plates, no-spill baunan, etc.

Exciting for coffee lovers... They will also be opening a CAFE in this branch too!

So here are some of the stuff I got. Wasn't able to take photos na of the others because either I am already using them or my sisters and mom got them already, hehe!

Cute collapsable boxes to organize stuff in my room:

Random plushies! I love the white panda, it's so soft and huggable!

Travel pea-shaped neck pillows for me and my sister:

Random 90s spring rainbow toys, maybe to gift to my pamangkins:

Random bath stuff: facial wash, body wash, and shampoo.

Daily essentials: Packs of tissue, cotton pads, cotton buds, wet wipes, lint roller:

Perfumes in cute box and bottles:

More cute stuff: hair ties, pens sets, printed pouch:

Canvass bag and chained structured velvet bag that will both look cute during events:

Eyebrow product and makeup brushes:

NATURE REPUBLIC

It's Nature Republic's 11th store in the country, and I am so glad to have visited their launch in BGC! They gave away EXO standees during the program haha, and even had storewide discounts and freebies the whole day!

In their FB about page, they say that "Nature Republic is a leading cosmetic brand from South Korea, featuring quality beauty products that are derived from natural substances and essences." I've seen several branches of Nature Republic in Myeongdong and Hongdae, and they are globally popular for their tubs of Aloe and for having EXO as main endorsers.

From tubs of Aloe Vera Soothing Gel, the product evolved and now came in different forms, uses, and packaging. They have the cleaner tube container, wet wipes variant, "hand cream" variant, eye roller, and even spray type mist!

Other notable Nature Republic products: All sorts of facial cleansing products from gel to foam wash, facial sunscreen, 10+10 sheet masks in different variants, and skincare essentials from serum to moisturizers to toners, etc.

They also have stuff for the nails (nail polish, polish remover), special EXO limited edition products, makeup tools like sponge and brushes, and even a travel kit that comes with a pouch and small bottled products.

Here are the stuff that I got:

Aloe Vera Soothing Gel in tub, tube, spray mist, and the hand cream for my mom:

New Obsession: The Green Tea line! 💚🌿 Got so addicted with green tea on my skincare because it works for my acne prone skin. So I got the foaming wash to try as alternative to my Neogen, a Fresh Green Tea Serum, Green Tea sheet mask, and hand cream that's on buy 1 get 1. The sample sized toner, emulsion and cream were freebies for the day, yey!

I am currently using them for my night regimen ever since I got the products. Medyo nanibago yung face ko at first, acquiring around 2-3 tiny red dots on my cheeks. I guess may harsh ingredient na hindi hiyang sakin, so I used a sheet mask and eventually no more irritations. Medyo drying lang sya since they are all Green Tea so last night I topped everything with a cold layer of the Aloe Soothing Gel (nilagay ko sa ref, hehe). Woke up feeling fresh! Wala talaga akong masabi sa product na yan. 💚

The only non Aloe and Green Tea that I got that day are the Argan Oil Essential Moist Hair Mist, and the internet popular Nature Republic Aqua Super Aqua Max Fresh Watery Cream. I love the consistency and smell of the latter when I tried it in the store. But when I used it that night, medyo natatapangan ako sa fragrance niya although it does its job of moisturizing my skin well. I decided to just forgo using it muna, and stick to the milder scented Aloe Soothing Gel. If you're ok with scented products, then this one's super sulit at only Php 585.

Note: Some of the products might work or not work for me, but it still depends on your skin type.

The freebies I got that day aside from the Green Tea samples:

Have you recently shopped in these stores too? Since I got a lot of stuff, some nadoble din, I decided to give away some of them on my Instagram! Follow me @anagon to check it out, it will be up soonest! Thank you! ... Or should I say, kamsahamnida!❤

Life Updates (First Half of 2018)

It's almost mid 2018! I think today is the perfect time to stop for a while and analyze the past months or so. Honestly, I feel that this year has been dimming when placed side-by-side with 2017 (aka the best year ever) but now that I am trying to recall what happened since January--well 2018 isn't so bad at all!

Greatest achievement for me so far is getting my blog recognized by a local award giving body. I am so glad that I am not only nominated at the Nuffnang Blogopolis Awards for Travel category, my blog also won People's Choice!! I remembered getting the news that I won while I was inside a grocery store in Bali. I was with new friends, so it's a bit embarrassing for me to freely express myself (aka cry or humble brag haha). I think I got the chills, as I ran looking for my new friend Etienne in halls and shelves of Bali's assortment of native snacks and souvenirs. "Nanalo ako!" Haha! I just had to make the moment memorable even though I wasn't physically present during the announcement.

A post shared by Ana Gonzales (@anagon) on

I think that at my age (past 30), there are up to zero recognitions for doing a job well done. Unlike when we were still in school, there's always the annual awarding ceremony for getting good grades or even for actively participating in school orgs complete with medals, stage presence, certificates, and your parentals beaming with pride in the sidelines. I may be old, but it's still nice to feel that my work is appreciated. My parents were still the first ones I messaged. I dedicate the award to all those days I am stuck in my bed just writing and writing even though I get less page views than I was expecting, lol! Or the times I was so tired but had to answer all the messages I got asking help for their visas and itineraries. All worth it.

When my laptop gave me the black screen of death a few weeks ago, I was a little less worried because I know in my heart that most of my pictures are already online anyway, along with my stories. They are not as hi-res as the ones in my old Macbook Pro, but I am not left with nothing. I think that's the fulfilment of still writing and writing my travel stories although it can be time consuming. Readership matters but not my top priority. I want to have those little moments in my life etched somewhere in the World Wide Web, that I can look back to from time to time and in the future.

(sorry for the messy background I am trying to pack, hehe) - new Macbook Air vs old Macbook Pro:

I still love looking back to my Korea Winter (Busan and Jeju) and Spring (Daegu) trips earlier this year. Whenever I open and reread these blog posts, I transport myself back to that afternoon when I got lost in Busan's highway, or that Jeju tour day where temperature is just too cold, etcetera etcetera. Losing a laptop is just the WORST because I cannot write as frequently as I want to, and also because ANG MAHAL NIYA PALITAN. Lalo na I have an upcoming big trip where I need all the funds (ang galing talaga ng timing ng ganito, so I am not surprised na hahaha). But when it comes to the memories, almost little to no worries at all. Mas masakit siguro sakin mawala ang blog ko.

In a repair shop with my bff Paul, trying to recover my Macbook. Only got to retrieve the files which is not bad nadin.

Canvassing for the cheapest Macbook, and hindi padin sya cheap a! Hehe.

Excited to write more!

Another memorable time for me during the past months was when my friend since St. Scho days came home from the States for her wedding. She's already married civil, but this time, family and friends were all invited to her big Manila church and reception celebration. I think Chickie and Jopo are our barkada's long-time couple. They are very inspiring, calling each other partner since they were best friends since college, then now as husband and wife living their full potentials in the States.

We had a surprise bridal shower for Chickie which I helped organize. It's a mini onsen party in Makati where we first had games then had our onsen and massage experience, ending the night at the hotel's buffet. Sobrang solid nito! I think I will even be returning here on my own, sobrang naenjoy ko yung onsen, massage, and buffet nila!

The wedding came in just a few days later, and since the couple is based in the States, lahat handled na ng organizers so we just went there and enjoyed the day. It has been a while since I had my hair and makeup done in a salon, plus wear a really girly and flooowy gown, so we took lots of pictures the whole day! Haha! F na F ko naman!

I was also part of Chickie's bridesmaids, and sobrang ite-treasure ko to forever. When friends pick me to be part of their entourage, I feel so honored and blessed for our friendship no matter what stage we are in life right now. Thank you BB! I super miss our Landmark, Bora buddy, and all our fun memories here in Pinas and I wish I can visit your new home someday so we can truly catch up na! ❤

Another momentous happening for me during the past months was Ashley getting pregnant and finally giving birth to baby Aki (aka Autumn in Japanese). We had a few meet-ups pa, having brunch instead of meeting in media events, and the most recent one before her due date was in QC at The Vegetarian Kitchen after my Taiwan trip with Ava

Everything's PLANT BASED here, so I really finished everything that I can! Sobrang sarap nung mushroom skins!! I wish I live closer to vegan restos so I can try more of them.

I think these Preggy Ashley months were memorable for me because it's not everyday you get to witness someone close to you turn a totally different chapter in her life--or a totally different BOOK pa kamo! I've known Ashley for a long long time thanks to the Internet, and if you want to know how long ko na sya kilala it was during the times she was still based in Japan, my current blog is still non-existent, and people still call her CANDY! Haha!

And now she's not just my Japan-based friend or my blog events buddy or my Korea in Manila girl, she's now a MOM! Time is really flying by before my eyes, and I can only watch whether it's good or bad. That night when we received a Viber groups message from Ashley with a photo of her baby, it's definitely one of those good days.

Lastly, and almost all of my life updates include this day, is another Bloggers United event. We are now on our FIFTEENTH installation, and I cannot believe padin how it gets BIGGER right before our eyes!!

I've blogged this before, but I will repeat lang for the sake of new readers, I always thought that I will be the first one to quit organizing BU. It's not a walk in the park, we had fair share of troubles, fights, and stress that only come when it's BU season nanaman. But only to get surprised AGAIN AND AGAIN with the support and love from readers (and viewers!) who will line up for hours outside our venue before we open our gates.

We still have major problems during our last event involving electricity, weather, and venue size, but whenever I interview our goers who will approach me that day, they are still all-smiles and will laugh with me and makikipag chikahan padin with me as if hindi sila pumila ng 2 hours sa labas! Huhu! I will read Tweets na grabe ang bagyo and commute nila that day, and pinila just to get in.. ending their posts with "but all worth it". Wala akong masabi. My heart is with you all! ❤

I am counting the days till my next big adventure for 2018! I realized that since I got the award for People's Choice for Best Travel Blog, that was when I STOPPED traveling for a while! Haha! I would have wanted to have side trips in Japan or Korea before this much awaited "Great European Escape" in July, but sakto lang din muna siguro to stay put here in Manila to witness friends winning in their own lives.

So these are the things I was up to for the past weeks that I was not traveling and had no AnagonTV flooding Instagram Stories. I was here at home with family and friends. ❤😊 To enjoy, to rest, to hustle for funds (haha) ... But now I am ready again! ✈

Excited to tell more stories!

My Fresh Grad + Job Hunt Story | #BestBeginsNow

This post is dedicated to all fresh graduates who are still looking for their first job... Especially those who've been going in and out of company buildings for interviews and exams for months now.

Young and hopeful! Grad-WAITING stage, look at my ID burado na! Hahaha!

During my time, when we were about to graduate with a degree in a good college, some of my peers got their first job interview, or "a call" for an instant job, or their acceptance letter for law school. As for my case, my whole four years in the university were dedicated to getting involved in extra curricular activities "para pampabango ng resume". But when I graduated--I counted weeks and months with zero calls. I was also part of the generation where job hunt is not purely done online. We also did walk ins with our printed resumes wearing old-style slacks and stiff blazers borrowed from our older cousins or our parents. We took risks and lined up in job fairs. It was all manual labor, and Netopia, MRT and jeep were my bffs.

One of the happiest days in my life, finally graduating from school! Didn't realized it was just the beginning....

Uso pa noon ang ganyang slacks! Haha.

I started with just emailing my dream companies, and then eventually felt na bawal na maging choosy, I also sent my resume even to never-heard-of companies as long as they are looking for writers. I started getting interview schedules but palaging may sablay. It's either the office is too far, the writing assignments weren't really at par with my values, or they just don't like me for the company! Haha!

Here are some job interview nightmares that I had to go through:

For a university's PR as writer:

Interviewer: Why do you want this job?
Me: I love to write...
Interviewer: You love writing? It sucks!

For an online gambling website:

Interviewer: You have so much things written on your resume, but why do you still want to enter our gambling company?
Me: ......

A lot of times, these words only caused me anxieties and hopelessness. I felt I wasn't good enough that's why no one's taking me. One time I decided to just stop looking, and started appreciating what I have been doing all along. A friend even said to me: Sila ang malas! They didn't get you! Huhu, true friend!

On the side while looking for a job, I was also doing Anagon Collection. It was my college online shop where I sell accessories that I made myself. That time, wala pang ganyan masyado. Relatives didn't see it as real work that will generate income and I was always embarrassed during family reunions when they find out I still don't "work" as in in an office with a boss. But there's no denying it, it's also where I get my daily income to go to interviews since baon from the parents totally STOPPED since I graduated. Now ang dami nang "home-based businesses" and people who proudly earn online.

I continued selling online and joining bazaars:

I also did not stopped writing! Here's an old photo with Krissy when we attended writing workshops!

Photo during the very very first Bloggers United!

I am not sure if I will still be where I am today if not for all the heartbreaks that came from that stage in my life where no one wants me. I continued writing on my blog while I earn from my online shop, and eventually that was where I also met one of my long time blog friends Pax or Aisa Ipac who was then my buyer! We joined same bazaar in I think it was Pasig, we became friends, commented on each others' blog posts, then she will recommend me to brands looking for bloggers so we go to same events, and the rest as they say is history. Now I am a full time blogger, and I don't think I want to have it any other way.

#BestBeginsNow!

Last week, I went to the Aquafina #BestBeginsNow event in Glorietta Makati Activity Center featuring celebrities in their own rights: beauty queens Pia Wurtzbach and Michelle Gumabaom, designer Francis Libiran joined by Jonas Gaffud and Albert Kurniawan, Hey Handsome chef Nicco Santos and food stylist Chichi Tullao, and Hosts Sam YG and Suzy Gamboa. Aside from the program, they also had workshops on Beauty, Content Creation, and Hosting.

During the stage segment, these celebrities brought back my job hunt memories! I think it's because everyone on stage, even the ones who are already so accomplished, had their ZERO TO HERO stories. In the end, they talked about their pledges and majority of these celebs promised that they will be giving back to the young ones who are also dreaming of excelling in their respective fields (businesses, beauty pageants). This made me realize all the things I went through before.

“Becoming your best starts with small steps. We understand it takes hard work and commitment to get there so we want to help inspire people to start living the best version of themselves,” said Aquafina Brand Manager Melai Lazaro-Javier. She added, “we believe delaying is not an option because your best begins now”.

And so before ending this post, I am leaving here a few words from someone who wasn't handed the silver spoon and have to work hard for what I have now:

Whatever stage you are in life now, please keep in mind that you are there for a reason or for a lesson. Do not be disheartened, if it's for you it will happen. If not, there's something better out there just for you. The important thing is to not stay stagnant, keep moving! Do something! If job hunt doesn't work for you and you've been stuck there for a while, either continue hustling 10x more or look for another track that will give you fulfilment. The right thing will come along I promise! Just keep the faith, this stage in your life will not be forever, and remember that you are much better than you think so take rejections lightly! I am not an achiever, but I will always be a hard worker.

So keep your end goal in mind, but never ever forget to enjoy the tedious process to get there. The journey really is the destination!

As my fresh grad self will always write in her journal, I will share this to you:

You are meant to be great.

Me, back in college, posing for my new blog profile photo! Haha! I've always wanted to become a writer. :)
