Travel Tips During Rainy Season

$

I have had too many rainy travel experiences to complain. From beach to hikes to the city, you name it!

Whenever I see my Accuweather app donning multiple thunderbolts during my travel dates, my only prayer is to spare my flight hours as I don't want a bumpy ride. The rest, I can deal with basta matuloy at hindi macancel ang travel.

Rainy day in Sanrio Puroland:

A rainy Japan trip:

Japan June 2017 with friends, monsoon season!

The best part in traveling during the rainy or off-peak season is that there are LESSER tourists. And of course, this means lesser demand in accommodations, airfares, tours, etc. so prices go down. You can actually save tons of money, and even get dramatic landscape overcast shots with less photo bombers!

Here are some photos of the rainy travels I have had through the years:

Sunway Waterpark in Malaysia:

Times Square, New York City:

Shinjuku Gyoen Park, Tokyo Japan:

Jeonju, South Korea:

Doi Inthanon, Chiang Mai Thailand:

Kyoto, Japan:

 Philosopher's Walk in Kyoto:

Rainy Japan is also their hydrangea season!

Harry Potter World, Osaka Japan:

Taipei, Taiwan:

Have you ever experienced a downpour during your travels? What do you usually do?
Here are some tips from my personal experience:

1) I don’t pack foldable umbrella with me, but I do bring jacket and a hat. If rain gets bad, that’s when I buy an umbrella in convenience stores! I now have a New York classic black umbrella and a Japan clear umbrella as travel souvenirs.

2) Wear appropriate shoes, like water-resistant sneakers. If you're ok with getting your feet wet, some prefer wearing water-resistant sandals or slippers.

3) Bring water resistant bag—and to be safe, make sure your passport cover is water proof! Mabasa na ang lahat wag lang ang passport! 😂😅

4) Bring towel, handkerchief, or tissue. Wear clothes that wouldn't look wet even when you get wet (quick dry materials, dark tones).

5) If you know that it's going to rain prior your travel dates, make back-up plans in your itinerary. Check out cute cafes, museums, shows, or check out a local movie as alternative indoor activities on rainy days.

Never let rain ruin your trip, it’s the best time to enjoy your hot coffee, ramen, or beer anyway!! ♥️

1) Support Local Businesses

Top of mind is, of course, the business of one of my long time friends Sarah Tirona which is BEACHBORN. They recently opened their own kiosk in SM Megamall Mega Fashion Hall (in front of Aivee Clinic), which is a proud moment for me as a friend who saw the brand grow.

BEACHBORN carries locally made beauty and personal care products like shampoo bars, body soaps, skincare and haircare stuff, etc. The best part is, everything's produced ETHICALLY. It's nice to support consumable products that are environment-friendly AND proudly made here in the Philippines!

2) Learn Baybayin

Baybayin is the ancient writing system used by our ancestors before adapting the alphabet that we use now during the Spanish colonization. With a government, religion, and writing system, we just showed the Spaniards that our nation was already civilized even before they took over!

After taking a short workshop on our old writing system (most photos from Krissy's blog post!), I can't help but wonder what and where we are now if only we retained Baybayin? The Thais, Koreans, Japanese, and Chinese all have their own sets of characters to express themselves through writing and communicating. It would have been cool to see Baybayin on our street signs, our money, or local newspapers.. Have you ever thought of that too?

Basic Baybayin with Sir Leo Castro of Sanghabi at Craft MNL:

3) Watch HistoryLand At Las Casas Filipinas De Acuzar

I've been to Las Casas Filipinas De Acuzar in Bagac, Bataan around 2-3 years ago for a photowalk event. The huge compound showcases Filipino heritage and culture through Jose “Jerry” Acuzar’s collection of restored Spanish-Filipino houses. A trip to this part of the Philippines is like stepping inside old photographs and Filipino history books! Everything's picturesque, like a painting if I may say so! You can even spend a night or two here through their accommodations.

This History Month, Las Casas Filipinas De Acuzar launches its newest theatrical show titled HistoryLand. Las Casas breathes life to our history's key moments through unique staging and reenactments by Manila and Bataan actors, showcased in key points of the 400-hectare heritage hotel and destination. It would be nice to relearn our history this way: fun, realistic, and interactive!

These are just some of the events in our history highlighted by HistoryLand:

The Battle of Mactan:

The Execution of Jose Rizal:

The Making of the Philippine Flag:

My Experience in a Korean Language School | Manila, Philippines

$
0
0

I recently concluded my 80-Hour Korean Language Class, and thought that I'd share a bit of my experience being a student again and learning a new and totally different language.

First of all, I've always wanted to enrol in a Korean language school here in Metro Manila for the loooongest time (I think for 2 years ko na siya plan!), but I always end up traveling on the day of enrolment. I realized that if I really want to go to school, I need to take a break from all my travels and focus / stay put here in Metro Manila--or else I'll just watch my tuition fee fly.

After my India trip last June, I have no plans of flying out of the country (unless for work) till October when weather is already suitable for traveling again (autumn!). Since I have a lot of free time now to rest and get back on track with my blog, my fitness life, and cleaning up my room, one afternoon I decided to Google "Korean language schools in Metro Manila". Asphodel Korean Language Center came out first on the list.

After reading up good reviews and finding out that their address is fairly commutable, I opened their website and watched this video. The school seemed to be more focused on those who want to find work in Korea. They also seem less intimidating and actually very welcoming! I browsed more of their website till I saw a message box / online application form section and inquired about their rates and schedule. I think it was in a day or two when I received a text message from Asphodel for their last day of promo before their new batch starts!

On the same day that I received the text, I made sure to drop by the language center after lunch so I can enrol for their upcoming batch. The school is walkable from Greenbelt, and easy to navigate via Google Maps (just type in 178 Salcedo Street).

That night, I received a text message again that school's officially starting early the next day!!! It was a total life changer in my habits coz I always sleep late. But since classes start at 8:30am, and I have to get up at 6, I also tried my best to sleep early even just for the weekends.

Photos of our classroom / language center:

Free water, biscuits, coffee:

I just get lunch in Family Mart during our first days, but became more experimental and tried foods around Salcedo during our 1 hour lunch breaks.

Yuuum! Tried Pastarifico, Mama Lou's, Green Bar, Garuda, and Antipodean Cafe:

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Name of School: Asphodel Korean Language Center

Address: Unit 71, Legaspi Suites, Salcedo Street, 1229 Makati

Contact Information: Send a message via their website at https://asphodelkoreanlanguage.com, or call (02)659-4416 / (02)517-0980.

How to Enrol? You can message them via their website, call the contact information above, or visit them during office hours to inquire for upcoming classes.

How much is the tuition fee? Php 8,000 for the 80-hour Basic Korean Language Class.

Schedule? This changes depending on the amount of enrolee. Their minimum number of students is at least 5 before they start the class. I think they used to have weekday classes, but now they only have weekends since most of their students have work or school. For my batch, our classes are Saturdays and Sundays, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm for 5 weekends.

Deserted Makati during weekends:

Coffee for early mornings, umbrellas during the habagat season, and studying even when at the bus:

WHAT I LIKE ABOUT ASPHODEL

1) I think the tuition fee is fair and more affordable compared to other Korean language centers.

2) I like that once you are enrolled in their class, you have UNLIMITED FREE SIT-IN PRIVILEGES even when you're done with your 80 hours! I can actually go back for refresher or to fully understand some of the lessons that I find difficult to understand.

This is to my favor since may isang absent ako during one Saturday na super bagyo, and had 2 half days coz of fan meetings (Dylan Wang and Lee Sung Kyung).

3) They also provide water, instant coffee, and biscuits for our 2 coffee breaks (or recess). It saves me money coz I always drink a lot of water in a day! Hehe! Lakas maka tita!

4) Location is easy for me since Makati siya and ok ang walk nya from my P2P bus stop in Greenbelt. But I have a classmate who comes from Bulacan pa, so may days na hindi na siya nakaka pasok (inabutan pa kami ng bagyo season!).

5) Our teacher is Filipino, which is A+ for me it's easier to ask questions when I don't understand some things. He worked in a blue collar job in Korea for 13 years, so our classes were also filled with his interesting life stories. In a way, I can say that it's more than just a Korean language class but also about Korean lifestyle!

6) Module and review materials are all provided. Again, the school's target is for those who are planning to work in Korea so they also have services for those planning to take TOPIK exam.

7) Since we're only 2-4 in class, sobrang tutok na tutok per student.

8) Last but not the least, I really like Sir Allan's methodology in teaching. It has been more than 10 years since I graduated college, so medyo marupok na yung utak ko haha when it comes to absorbing new information.

First day palang namin when Sir Allan emphasized that we are not going to memorize inside the classroom. Studying the Korean language is all about FAMILIARIZATION. Aside from teaching us the basic sentence structures thought in Korean language schools, he also gave us tips on practical ways to say things when you're in Korea.

I've consumed around 2 thin notebooks for notes and to practice some of our lessons:

QUESTIONS FROM MY IG STORY

Is it easy to learn the Korean language?

Mahirap sya coz it's like going back to nursery-- starting with vowels and consonants again!

But I think it could have been harder to study the Korean language on my own, if I just watched Youtube videos. When I started going to an actual class, akala ko sobrang mahihirapan ako coz I've been out of school for the longest time, but I think it depends on the METHODOLOGY of the teacher. With Sir Allan, I was able to familiarize myself with Korean character, words, and numbers WITHOUT forcing vocabularies in one seating.

How much?

Php 8000 for 80 hours (8 hours for 10 days), unlimited sit-in even after you're done with your 80 hours.

How is it? Currently learning Japanese coz of work, medyo mahirap. Feeling old na.

I can relate to this! I am the oldest in class at 33 years old, but I was told that there's no age limit in their school. I guess it was harder because of my short attention span, and with lots of things going on in my head nowadays (aside from learning the language, there's work and family life!). But when you dedicate your 8 hours every weekend just to be there in the classroom, marami nadin akong napulot from this short stint. I just need to follow through even though classes have officially ended.

What made you really want to learn hanguko?

I am really into learning new things, and we know that learning does not end after college! Even before my Korean craze, I also went to crafting classes, writing classes, calligraphy classes, you name it!! This time, since I've been going to Korea a lot, and because I am really into Kdrama and Kpop, I can't help but get enticed to learning their language. There really is no deeper reason for doing this other than for added skills and personal enjoyment.

Is it your first time studying the language?

Yes! I came to our first class with ZERO knowledge in Korean language. (Except for Annyeong, Oppa and Unnie, Daebak, and Ottoke, haha)

What's the hardest topic you encountered?

A LOT! Haha! But I guess it's more of the grammar / very tricky sentence construction (since I don't have vocabulary padin), and also linking of final consonant (proper pronunciation).

Do they teach you how to "sound" like a Korean as in like diction?

YES! When we read children's story books in 3 of our sessions, our teacher will correct some of our mispronunciations.

Are you planning to take the TOPIK one day, if not soon?

Haven't thought of this pa, but I have one classmate who enrolled to take this exam this or next year. Maybe no muna for me, did this for fun lang and for added knowledge.

Are you planning to take follow-up Korea courses, or self study nalang muna for now?

If time will permit, I'd like to join my classmates when they sit-in with the new batch! If not, I hope to stay consistent in learning kahit through Youtube na lang muna. But then, I realized na mas classroom type of learner talaga ako. Pag Youtube, ang dali ko madistract!

How's Kdrama watching / Kpop listening after starting to study Korean?

Super nakakaaliw! When I went to Lee Sung Kyung fan meeting I tried to comprehend her interviews, and nakaka tuwa when I picked up a few basic words that I encountered in class hehehe. Same when I watched BTS Bring The Soul, minamatch ko yung words nila with the subtitle.

Nakaka aliw din now na I can read ASTRO's song titles, which are mostly in Hangul! I also try to read Hangul tweets and IG captions of Kpop and Kdrama actors that I follow although minsan hindi ko padin maintindihan unless they are KongLish words.

Love the teaching style of our 선생님 (teacher).

My classmates Jona, Jay, and Nette!

We also received a certificate during our last day! Huhu! Parang graduation talaga!

MOVING FORWARD

After 80 hours of Korean Language Classes, I will be honest that I still cannot fluently talk or understand Korean. BUT I learned the basics like reading and writing the Korean characters, a few basic words that I can use everyday, and basic sentence formation (that verbs end a sentence, and that the Korean language is all about the "endings").

What to do next? I think I need to start a daily habit of at least dedicating 15-30 minutes of my day to reviewing our past lessons. I can also build my vocabulary by maybe keeping a notebook where I can write Korean words for the day, or even write a simple journal in Hangul!

I downloaded the DuoLingo app, and although it's a fun language game app, a classmate told me na hindi daw okay yun so I stopped na muna. There are also a multitude of Youtube tutorials that I should watch daily.

My dream is to one day apply my learnings when I travel back to Korea, and engage myself in actual conversations. I hope that I can travel and stay in Seoul for a month or 2. As they say, trial by fire is the ultimate teacher! But if this chapter of my life does not progress, I will still be thankful that I did this and enjoyed myself while in the process. Will I recommend learning the Korean language? Of course! For self development, I will always encourage you to get a little brain massage and to challenge yourself from time to time. :)

Best of luck, chingu!

Back in Cebu! | Influencity Bazaar, Cute Places To Visit, Etc.

Here's something I realized: I always find myself back in Cebu at least once a year.

One time, I was there with my family for a cousin's wedding. He married a Cebuana. I remembered that the whole clan was checked-in at the Quest Hotel, where our new cousin-in-law used to work so we got good discounts. On that trip, I also remember going to Cebu's Abaca bakery for the first time with Cea, and then spontaneously hailing a cab to the Crown Regency to try their infamous sky ride! 😄

Another time, I went to Cebu solo flight to give a talk on travel hacks for an insurance company. I also went there for (not in particular order) a food crawl, a Vios cup, a Miss Universe coverage work stint in JPark Resort, the launch of the new airport, and of course for Sinulog!

I also had a Cebu trip where I celebrated my birthday away from home for the first time. My friends and I had a fancy dinner, and then later on got drunk with red wine in La Maison Rose!

I am not sure what's with the sunny south, but it keeps calling me back. I usually plan my destinations, but with Cebu, everything's coincidental. It almost feels like I'm just heading home.

D A Y 1 : Hello Cebu!

For 2019 Cebu, I was invited by a group of Cebu Bloggers for Influencity. First of all, a big thank you to the organizers Jean, Marco, and Doyzkie of Clover Creatives PR & Events for having me! Last year they had David and Vina, so I am still not sure why my name was even brought up in the lineup--akk! Grateful every time these things happen to me!

We arrived at the Mactan–Cebu International Airport via Cebu Pacific Air. Marco was the one who welcomed us. I had a huge yellow luggage with me ("pang States") with all my paninda which they merrily pulled away from me to the van (thank you!). We all went straight to the hotel for a quick check-in and touch-ups before meeting with the rest of the group.

Hello again Quest Hotel Cebu, with my roomie Ava! I think it's my 3rd time here, and it's still one of the accommodations I will recommend for your Cebu City trip, just because of its distance to the mall and the buffet breakfast selections. 😁

Our home for three nights. Definitely a comfortable stay!

We went down to have our late lunch at the Ayala Center Cebu. This mall looks like a combination of Trinoma, Greenbelt, and even Ayala The 30th! 😁

First meal in the city: Casa Verde! They are a Cebu-based, family-owned, American-style casual dining resto famous for their HUGE versions of burger, milk shake, etc! Everything's good, but as always, I love the desserts the most!

Hindi lang pala Manila, they also flew in blogger guests from Iloilo (Nana), Davao (Jeff), and Gen San (Michael)!

Prior this trip, I created a list of things to do with Ava on our free time, but our Cebu friends promised us that they'll take us to the other sites on our last day--so yey! We just spent day 1 chilling in a cafe, and then accomplishing last minute mall errands prior the bazaar.

Since Ava is a Gong Yoo fan, I brought her to Cebu's version of Coffee Prince. When I went here before, I had the Kimchi Fried Rice, but since we just had lunch, I just settled for iced coffee.

Hindi ko naalala na may Murakami art wall installation dito before! Cute!

Inside, almost panay students ang diners. Nakaka bata! Hehe!

Halasha. 😂

Coffee Prince is located in 0246 Osmeña Blvd, Cebu City
We just took a Grab from Ayala Center Cebu.

D A Y 2 : Bazaarista!

Grabe ang tagal na since the last time I manned a booth in a bazaar. To think, this has been my life for the longest time!

I used to join any bazaar when I was still a full time online shop seller. Cuenca in Alabang, CandyMag Fairs, school fairs, you name it! But there was a time when I stopped joining these gigs altogether, and only sell during Bloggers United. But even for BU, since I have a full plate behind-the-scenes, my mom took charge nadin of my selling booth.

Technically, joining the Influencity brought back a lot of my good memories as a former bazaarista!

Ganda ng set-up nila!

My booth + my first buyers! Annyeong!

Ang ganda pa ng location! We were at the Ayala Center Cebu's Activity Center. There's no entrance fee so people just come and go at our booths the whole day. Also, I would like to commend Influencity for providing us with trustworthy interns who assisted us in our booths whenever we want to take a break (or shop a little, haha)!

They have their tarp with our faces all-over the Ayala Center! 😀

Thank you, also, Coffee Bean for our daily caffeine supply, and Pancake House + Teriyaki Boy for our meals!

D A Y 3: Round 2, fight!

But first, coffee!

It was easier to set-up for Day 2 since our luggages were already in the venue, plus medyo gamay nadin the look of our booth. I'd also like to think mas lesser nadin kasi ang paninda namin? Haha!

More friends came during day 2! Yey!

There were a lot of stage happenings during the whole event, and one time pinaakyat pa kaming lahat na bloggers haha! They asked us for travel tips, and since we're around 18 bloggers and naubusan na ako ng valuable tip ang nasabi ko lang is to try the guesthouse life!

We caught Marco's travel photography talk while we were on our way to Sunnies! Haha.

Earning extra money is good, decluttering and getting rid of some of my stuff is good, but the bestest part for me about this Influencity event is meeting fellow bloggers from Cebu AND online chingus who are Cebu-based! Thank you for coming through and saying hi to me! Minsan inimagine ko na nanay ko lang talaga ang nag babasa sa blogs ko or nanonood ng IG Stories ko sa Korea hahaha!

D A Y 4: A quick road-trip before home!

Alam nyo maiintindihan ko talaga if hindi kami matuloy sa gameplan for our last day because for sure everyone's tired from the bazaar, but promises were kept! On our last day, before our flight back to Manila, Doyz, Jean, and Marco brought us to Sirao Flower Gardens and La Vie in the Sky for a little sight-seeing! ❤

Bye bye room in Quest Hotel! Till the next time!!!

Road-trip ready!

Sirao is less than an hour from the city, but still a long drive. I remembered taking a taxi alone on my first visit--it costed me around Php 2000 for a transpo package from my hotel to Sirao, Temple of Leah, Taoist Temple, and back in my hotel. Pwede na, super worth it!

Heading back after around 2 or 3 years, ang dami nadin nag bago. Sirao is almost unrecognizable to me with its new "attractions" like the giant hands, a golden buddha, windmill, etc. Weather was also better the second time around, it was raining when I first visited.

Dati Little Amsterdam lang sya, ngayon pwede nading Little Bali or even Little Chungshe Flower Garden (Taiwan). Hehe!

Along the way from Sirao back to our hotel, La Vie In The Sky is a nice stopover c/o of our Cebu friends! Ang ganda nyang restaurant and I would highly recommend! I love every nook and corner, I love the sweets that we were able to try. The design reminds me a bit of Europe, the photo zones remind me of Korean cafes that are always so extra.

At the highest floor, you'll also get a nice bird's eye-view of Cebu.

We just have to, hehe!

Floor-length mirror for your solo traveler OOTDs.

Can't pick a single spot to eat our gelato and truffled chocos! 😁

Before completely heading for the airport, we had our lunch in Tazza Cafe and Patisserie, another beautiful Cebu-based restaurant. I loved our meals during this trip coz I got to know new people through our conversations. Nakakaaliw sila. We left Cebu not only with heavy tummies, but with heavy hearts. Sepanx is real, as they say!

Not only masarap, but ang ganda din ng food nila!

I don't know how else to end this blog but with a THANK YOU to everyone who made this trip memorable!

As always, no trip ends without pasalubong. Sharing bits of Cebu to my parents--the least I can do when I can't bring them to my adventures. My mom requested the lanzones and naka bili naman ako sa grocery during the bazaar days, haha!

Zilingo Capsule Collection: Avel Bacudio x Alden Richards

I haven't seen Alden Richards' latest blockbuster with Kathryn Bernardo, but now I am really intrigued!

First, it's his new look. Alden has always been good looking, BUT with his recent change image--it's the total makeover I never knew we needed! Sobrang oppa niya ngayon!

Second, Alden was recently awarded at the Seoul Drama Awards. He came to the event in a crisp suit, and received the Asian Star Prize. I guess it's safe to say that 2019 is definitely Alden's year!

Imagine my surprise when I learned about his latest ATHLEISURE clothing collab collection with e-commerce platform Zilingo and designer Avel Bacudio! In all honesty, I am eyeing most if not all the hoodies in the site now! They're my kind of style: A combination of comfort and functionality, suitable for different occasions. Best part is, part of the sale proceeds will benefit children from the Northern Luzon Association for the Blind in La Trinidad Benguet, Philippines.

Launch photos from Zilingo's Facebook Page

The collection features jackets, tracksuits, pullovers, and joggers in shades of black, maroon, navy blue, off-white and gray. These colors were specially chosen as they were the first colors Avel Bacudio could see after being afflicted with temporary blindness for a period of time! You can check the available pieces from this collaboration on this page.

You can now purchase AvelXAlden collaboration on the Zilingo website and app, and have them delivered to their doorstep at no extra charge. I am actually pleased that their women's hoodie is available in XXL! Make sure to avail stat coz ang bilis nga lang maubos. As of writing, some products from the collaboration collection went sold out already, so make sure to check Zilingo for the restock in the coming days.

I Got Myself A Crown! | My Dental Crown Experience: Cost, Procedure, Etc.

$

I just got myself a crown.. A dental crown! 😁

I found myself constantly in my dental clinic Affinity Dental Makati for the past month to get a Dental Crown procedure. Getting a crown is not an urgent required procedure after a root canal operation, but it is recommended to support and protect the remaining tooth structure, to restore functionality of your tooth, and of course for your dental aesthetics. I never knew I needed it till I finally got it!

You can read more about my Long Overdue Root Canal experience here, or proceed with this blog post for more information on Dental Crowns and if you might need one too!

Affinity Dental Clinics has been my go-to for my dental health since 2017. They have several branches around the Metro, but I go to the one in Rufino, Makati.

I feel comfortable every time I wait for my appointment at the Affinity Dental Makati. The place has always been homey and spacious. Aside from having my own personal space where I can read my magazines or browse online, I also like that they have nice artwork all over the clinic that I enjoy looking into!

Now let's go back to my Dental Crown procedure.

I went back to the clinic around 3x in total. First and second visits were for my consultations and analysis, tooth preparation, and dental impression, while the third visit was for my dental crown fitting, adjusting, and installing. There is about 3-week interval while I waited for my last session since it will take time to create the crown.

It's a relief that the whole process for me was pain-free, and every visit was brief, except for the last when they needed to adjust the crown in-house to perfectly fit my tooth. I also had no experiences of discomfort after getting the crown, except for a few days just to adjust to the new tooth!

Watching Kdrama during my procedures:

I asked my dentist Doc Iya Paras a few questions about Dental Crowns that might be useful to some of you. Here goes!

What are dental crowns? What are they made out of?

Dental crowns are fixed/cemented restorations to replace all the surfaces of the tooth. It can be made out of different materials such as, metal, porcelain, resin, zirconia, etc.

Who usually gets dental crown? (cases / dental conditions that need dental crown)

Dental crowns are usually recommended for patients who have badly broken down teeth due to decay, patients who have discolored teeth due to root canal treatment, or patients who have malformed teeth due to developmental anomalies.

How many days will it take to accomplish dental crown procedure?

Fabrication of dental crowns would usually take about 1 to 2 weeks depending on the material used and on the case of the patient.

Here's the dental impression showing the mould of my lower teeth, and where my dental crown will be placed:

It looks like a legit tooth in real life!

Dos and Donts after getting a dental crown? Are there food to avoid? Etc.

After cementation of the crown, you should be able to use it like a normal tooth. Given that, you should also take care of it like a natural tooth. Make sure you brush and floss that area regularly. We recommend patients not to bite on to very hard food to prevent breakage.

Are dental crowns permanent? If not, how long will it last?

Like your normal tooth, crowns also have their normal wear and tear. We tell patients that with proper fabrication and maintainance, crowns can last you years. But of course, you need to visit your dentist regulary to have it checked and cleaned as well.

How much is the cost of getting dental crown?

The cost of a dental crown depends on the material to be used. It could range from Php 10,000 up to Php 30,000.

Are there other alternatives for dental crowns, and what are the advantages of getting dental crown than other procedures?

If the treatment plan requires a dental crown, then I believe it is what's best for the patient. Some may opt for light cured fillings but it may fail if the case calls for a crown.

Trying to smile with the crown finally on for the first time! Haha!

Btw, Affinity Dental is having 11% off on everything Anniversary Sale from September 1 to 11! I'd say, it's the perfect time to book for your procedures! Discover your options by visiting https://affinitydentalclinics.com.

Video showing non-surgical smile transformation with Porcelain Veneers, Zirconia Dental Crowns and Bridges by Affinity Dental Clinics. Looks like magic to me! 😮

Thank you so much Doc Iya and Affinity Dental Clinics for taking care of my dental health and restoring my smile! 😁

Shoes are essential in one’s journey through life. For less fortunate families and their children, a new pair of shoes will allow them to perform their daily chores in comfort and walk to and back to school in safety. Good shoes can also inspire them to work hard – because with a new pair of shoes, they are not only able to fulfill their daily tasks but are also taking little steps to achieve their dreams.

Since 2015, The SM Store Share Movement has collected over 900,000 donations composed of shoes, clothing, footwear, book and school kits, disaster kits and toys, which were given to children and families all over the country. This year’s Share Shoes Campaign was able to collect over 40,000 pairs of shoes from their generous benefactors, along with close to 2-million pesos worth of shoes donated by The SM Store, allowing them to reach more kids and inspire these children to take those important steps toward achieving their goals.

The Share Shoes campaign invited shoppers to donate their pre-loved or brand-new shoes to children in need. In partnership with Caritas Philippines and other NGOs, the shoes collected were distributed to Oriental Mindoro and other far-flung communities nationwide.

The SM Store saw how important shoes were to lives of the children. In one of their previous donation turnovers: Rich, 11 years old, took a pair of sandals for his elder sister instead. When asked why, "I still have a pair of shoes," Rich said, "my sister needs it more."

These are the kind of stories that inspire The SM Store Share Movement to double their efforts in reaching out to those who are in need of assistance. SM founder Henry Sy envisioned that every Filipino should have their own pair of shoes. It is a passion that blossomed to what is SM today, a company that takes every step to make this vision a reality.

According to The SM Store, this project reminded them of their humble beginnings, milestones, legacy, and promise to help communities be better. After all, The SM Store started out with shoes and they hope to be a part of people’s journeys through life through the gift of shoes.

Over the years, The SM Store has conducted its quarterly donation drive from shoes, to books, toys and hygiene kits for identified poor communities and areas impacted by calamities, through its #SMShareMovement Project.

Find out more about these quarterly donation drives and know how to contribute to upcoming projects, by liking The SM Store Facebook page and by following @TheSMStore on Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube.

OOTD INSPO: BlackPink Lisa's Airport Outfit + Online Shopping Hacks!

$

I really love the style of Kpop idols, most especially when it comes to airport fashion. I used to go to the airport in just white polo or white shirt, when I realized that there are more comfortable options that are still stylish! I got a lot of inspo from idols.

One of the styles that I love is Lisa's of BlackPink, most prob because she's also into streetwear. I am sharing here one of the looks I tried to cop from Lisa, and how you can also achieve the look or at least own a similar piece of clothing of your style icons! Here's how..

First of all, Google and save photos of the looks that you want to achieve. Have as many options as you want.

On your shopping app, click the camera on the search bar, and upload the photo that you saved. I used Shopee app to search for pieces of clothing to achieve Lisa's yellow hoodie airport outfit, just because they usually have the more affordable choices. But Zalora and Lazada also has the same search feature.

With Shopee, you'll have to zone in the piece of clothing you are looking for. Make sure your photos are clear. On my list are the oversized yellow bell-sleeves hoodie, a pair of jeans, and a black handbag. Photo-search for every item one by one.

Here are some of the pieces that came out from my search for the yellow hoodie. Look for the ones that are similar to your peg, and make sure to also check on the reviews for actual pictures of the products. I usually buy from shops that already have at least 5 good reviews with photos on the item.

A boo-boo from this project are the jeans that I bought! They are really nice, and quality looks good, but the sizing is too small! I think I already got 1 to 2 sizes up my usual, but they still did not fit me! I ended up just wearing the pants that I already own.

And lastly, here are the bags that showed up on my search. They have a lot of options with different price range. Another tip when searching is to scroll down at the end of the listing to see more "Similar Items" from other shops! You might just score better designs, or same style but in lower price!

And here's the final look! What do you think?

Best part is I spent less than Php 1500 in total! ❤

In Conclusion:

I really enjoyed doing this style challenge, but since I am purchasing online, it also comes with risks like bad fitting or poor quality (expectations vs reality!). Shopee has a lot of options at affordable price tags since most of their stuff came straight from China! If you're looking for more quality and branded stuff though, go for Zalora. For bags and sneakers, I usually go for branded ones since there's a chance that when I liked a bag or shoes, I'll be using them on the DAILY. It's also hard to travel with ill-fitting shoes or carry bags with broken zippers. And unlike dresses or tops, bags and shoes are usually the ones that stay in my closet for yearsss!

Tip number 2, make sure to shop via Shopback app! If you're not yet familiar with this, create your account NOW! I entered this app a bit too late, and I regret that most of my online purchases weren't from Shopback yet.

Through Shopback, you can get a percentage of your money back after a purchase from your usual shopping sites like Zalora, Lazada, BeautyMNL, and Shopee (% depends on the app). I think Zalora has the biggest percentage at 18% cash back! Shopback also carries the usual travel apps like Klook, Agoda, and Booking.com--which I have yet to try. So far, about a month since I used Shopback, I already have Php 900+ on my wallet! You can withdraw this after the allowed weeks or month of returns for the items that you bought, just to avoid buyers returning their purchases after withdrawing their Shopback money.

An important tip, make sure to still use your promo codes even when you purchase from Shopback. Imagine getting double the discounts by just doing these two online shopping tricks! For Zalora, I automatically input influencers' promo codes KERWIN and ZCBTL20 for 20% off!

Lastly, "copying" of style shouldn't literally be going for what is exactly the same. Have fun and try to get the essence of the outfit, but at the same time, inject your own personality to the look.

Have fun! ✨

Autumn Travel Tips | What To Wear, What To Pack, Where To Go, Things To Do

$

Autumn is coming! Here are some commonly asked questions I get from those traveling during fall season.

What To Wear During Autumn?

I get questions including "malamig na ba ng October", "what to wear in Korea on November", etc. Honestly, I am still confused myself!

First is because hindi ako lamigin. When I decide to wear full-on wool coat with extra layers of heat tech garnments underneath, then that means MALAMIG NA MALAMIG na talaga nun! Haha! This usually happens when I travel during winter. But for Autumn, I can actually still wear my usual midi or maxi skirts! 😅

Secondly, no brainer: weather changes every year! It's so hard to predict if it's going to be super cold this year, although I already traveled on the same place and at the same month a year or 2 ago. It still varies. A tip is to constantly check your weather app--a few days before your trip when you're packing, and on the day of your trip before heading out of your room. It's not super-duper accurate, but it's the best guide where you can gauge if you'll need more layers for your outfits.

Here's a practical list of stuff that I will pack or wear with on a October-November autumn trip:

(1) Heattech. You can never go wrong with this extra thin layer! There will be days when it's not super cold ("Baguio weather"), but it's still cold. You'll need the extra warmth when it gets windy or when you stroll outdoors at night.

(2) Bring a jacket or coat. This can be your denim jacket, leather jacket, knits, and even long coats. Again, this depends on your tolerance for chilly weather. But during autumn, I seldom see locals in puffer jackets and heavy wool coats--usually they take these out during winter pa. But then again, it's all up to one's individual preferences, style, and needs.

(3) A cap, bucket hat, or any headgear that protects your eyes from the wind, or your hair from always getting on your face.

(4) Scarf, face mask, gloves. Again, these accessories will come in handy when you need the extra warmth. You can also buy heat packs in convenience store and place them on your pockets before heading out.

(5) Water resistant bag + passport holder. I experienced autumn rains so make sure to protect your things from getting soaked! You can also bring a small foldable umbrella with you, but I prefer buying one on the spot during my travels.

Where To Go / Things To Do During Autumn?

Of course, although it gets chilly, this is the best time to enjoy the outdoors! For Korea, go to theme parks like Everland where their displays turn autumn themed! Visit Nami Island, and see lanes of maple leaves in oranges, red, and yellows. Or simply go to the nearest park from your hostel!

Same with Japan, I enjoy park visits for the autumn foliage. My favorites are Ueno Park, Shinjuku Gyoen, and Yoyogi Park. Make sure to schedule your Mt. Fuji tour during autumn too! We had a clear visibility of this mountain, and we witnessed beautiful fall colors during our stopovers.

And lastly, make sure to schedule an onsen or jjimjilbang day, a ramen or ramyeun meal, cute cafes hopping, enrol in cooking classes or workshops, and have an art museum day -- activities that you will enjoy even when it's too cold outside!

Personal Favorite Autumn Sites

1) Shinjuku Gyoen Park
2) Sapporo
3) Nami Island
4) Jeju-do
5) Everland
6) Mt. Fuji Tour

The Korean 7 Skin Method for Plump & Glowing Skin

$

Who wouldn’t want clear, glowing, bouncy skin that’s plump with moisture? The kind of radiance that comes from an uber-expensive facial at a five-star salon. Wouldn’t it be amazing if you could get that look every day? The Korean 7 Skin Method can give you that same look at home… without breaking the bank.

The step by step Korean skin care routine has been all the buzz in recent years, and for good reason! It gives truly amazing results for every skin concern, from acne to anti-aging. But Korean skincare enthusiasts have recently been raving about the uber hydrating 7 Skin Method for adding radiance and plumpness to dehydrated skin, and it’s a fantastic technique everyone should try!

What is the Korean 7 Skin Method?

Basically, the 7 Skin Method involves layering up to seven applications of a toner or essence onto your face after it’s been cleansed? It sounds a little crazy, but the results are worth it!
This skincare technique allows your skin to drink up more of the toner or essence because you’re applying the next layer of the product onto the skin before the previous one has a chance to evaporate.
Since you’re adding up to seven layers, your skin is getting a boatload of hydration and beneficial ingredients all at once, leaving you with healthier, radiant, youthful-looking skin.

How to do the Korean 7 Skin Method

You might think that applying seven layers of a product will take a lot of time, but it really doesn’t take that long, and the results are worth it. Be sure to start out with a freshly cleansed face that has been patted dry, but still has some moisture.
Apply each layer of toner with a cotton pad or the pads of your fingers, paying particular attention to any dry areas on your face. Always use upward, outward motions to apply your skincare products. Repeat the process up to seven times (or more if your skin is dehydrated).
That’s really all there is to it. You can play around with the number of layers to see what suits your skin best at different times of the month and with the change of seasons. Some people go through the entire routine every day, but you can do it just once a week, or only for special occasions. Just like any other part of the Korean skincare routine, you should adapt it according to what works best for your skin.

Choosing the Best Korean Toner for the 7 Skin Method

When it comes to selecting the best Korean toner for the 7 Skin Method, there are some key things to look for. Most importantly, avoid any toner that’s harsh or drying and don’t use toners that contain exfoliating acids for this method because they could irritate the skin.
Instead, look for an alcohol-free, hydrating toner that contains soothing and moisturizing ingredients like hyaluronic acid, lavender, and beta-glucan. Collagen is great for plumping aging skin, and it leaves it super soft. Avocado and green tea are both soothing and nourishing for most skin types.
If your skin is dull or has acne scarring, look for a toner that contains snail mucin and/or bee venom. These ingredients hydrate, brighten and improve circulation to help scars and dullness fade away. They’re both safe for sensitive skin, and they also stimulate collagen production for anti-aging.

Tips for Success with the 7 Skin Method

1. Choose the Right Product for your Skin
As we’ve already mentioned, you should avoid anything with harsh or drying ingredients. When you’re applying a product in layers, you don’t want to use anything that could irritate your skin.
You should also think about your skin type. An oil-free toner is better for oily skin because it won’t leave your skin feeling tacky or greasy when you’re done. You can use a heavier product if your skin is dry.

2. Don’t Overdo It
Remember, there’s no hard and fast rule about how many layers to apply. Don’t force yourself to use all seven layers if two or three is enough for your skin.

3. Don’t Rush the Process
While you don’t want to let the product dry completely between layers, you need to allow some time for it to absorb before you move on. If you rush the process, you’ll end up with a thick layer of product sitting on your skin’s surface that doesn’t sink in or do you any good.

4. Be Gentle with Your Application
Since you’re going to be repeating the application several times, gentle application with your fingers or cotton pad is crucial. If you’re too rough, you might cause redness or irritation.

5. Try an Essence Instead of Toner
The best Korean toners work great for this method, but you should experiment with essences too. Essences are unique to Korean skincare and they are packed with skin-loving ingredients, they’re lightweight, and they won’t cause irritation. It’s all about finding the products that your skin loves.

6. Protect the Delicate Eye Area
Although some people use the 7 Skin Method around the eye area, it should be approached with caution because this area is so thin, delicate, and prone to dryness. The best way to approach this area is to apply your eye cream right after you cleanse your face, and then avoid getting to close to your eyes as you do the seven-skin technique.

7. Don’t Forget to Exfoliate
The 7 Skin Method isn’t going to do you much good if the products are sitting on top of a layer of dead skin. Be sure to exfoliate regularly so that all of your skincare products can absorb better.

8. Lock in All That Wonderful Moisture
Your skin is going to be beautifully hydrated and plump after you complete this technique, so don’t let it go to waste. Unless you have incredibly oily skin, lock in all that moisture with a moisturizer or facial oil that’s made for your skin type.

The wonderful thing about a Korean skincare routine is that it’s so customizable and it gives incredible results. Don’t hesitate to play around with different products and layers until you get the results you’re going for. When it comes to the 7 Skin Method, experimenting is part of the fun!

How To Apply For India Visa (Philippine Passport)

$
0
0

To me, India has one of the easiest visas that I acquired, but also one of the most expensive. You basically just have to fill up a form online (no need to go to agencies or embassies), pay via credit card or Paypal, and then wait for an email with your visa in around 4 days. Sobrang bilis lang! I decided to still write this blog post if ever you want to know what to expect before applying.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO PREPARE PRIOR APPLICATION

1) A photo of your passport's bio page (make sure to include the full page of your bio, and not just the page with your photo and details) - PDF file.

2) A 2x2 digital copy of your recent photo - JPEG file.

3) Your visa application fee of USD 82.81, via credit card or PayPal.

India is more than the Taj Mahal! Planning a trip here is worth it.

THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE APPLYING FOR INDIA VISA

1) They say that 4 days prior travel date is enough lee-way to apply for India Visa, but bilang praning, I will recommend at least a week or 2 in advance.

The earliest you can apply when you know your travel date already is around 120 days prior your arrival date.

2) Like in any international travels, make sure that your passport has at least 6 months validity, and 2 blank pages.

3) The online form will require you to input your port of entry. Here are the only airports they will accept:

Ahmedabad
Amritsar
Bagdogra
Bengaluru
Calicut
Chennai
Chandigarh
Cochin
Coimbatore
Delhi
Gaya
Goa
Guwahati
Hyderabad
Jaipur
Kolkata
Lucknow
Mangalore
Mumbai
Nagpur
Pune
Tiruchirapalli
Trivandrum
Varanasi

In my case, I entered India via Delhi.

Some favorite pictures from my favorite city in India, Jaisalmer:

4. Aside from airport of entry, you will also input your travel dates, hotel address (I placed our very first hotel since we will be transferring to different cities), contact number and references in India (I placed the contact information of our tour agency). Make sure you have all these details with you before opening the online form.

Hotel de Luna feels! This hotel has a cafe / resto so you can dine and take pictures even if you're not a guest.

WHERE TO APPLY FOR INDIA VISA

Two weeks before our trip, my sister insisted that we apply for our India Visa already. Her friend sent her the website link for India Visa application: http://indianvisaonline.gov.in.

Here's how the home page looks like. Click the middle box "For eVisa by Bureau of Immigration, Apply here".

Click "Apply here for e-visa"

Indian visa's online application form only requires your basic information, like your full name, Passport Type (most of us have Ordinary Passport), nationality, email, purpose of visa (eTourist Visa-Recreation/Sight-Seeing), etc. Again, nothing complicated! You can go through the sample India e-Visa Application form HERE.

As mentioned earlier, you will need your recent 2x2 digital photo (JPEG format) and a photo / scan of your passport's bio page (PDF). You will upload these by almost the end of the application form. If the photos won't upload, check the sizes. They also indicated minimum and maximum pixels for these so countercheck if you got them correctly.

There will be a verification page before payment. Again, triple check your details and make sure everything's good to go before you click "continue"!

And of course the last page, settle your payment! I sent mine through PayPal, but they also accept Visa and Mastercard.

FINALLY, YOUR INDIA VISA!

Getting an email with your visa will take around 4 days, but I think Cea and I only waited for 2 days to receive ours. I got a multiple entry visa, yey! Unlike most visas that I have na naka stick na siya sa passport mo, India Visas are only sent via email.

Here's how the e-visa email looks like:

Make sure to print this email, and keep it for inspections in both Philippine and India immigrations. You can also print and check the status of your visa on their website

Our last stop, the blue city of Jodhpur:

I am still amazed by the beauty of India:

Some Shooting Locations for Park Seo Joon and Jung Hae In Kdramas

It's a Kdrama fan girl's dream weekend! Two Korean oppas just arrived in Manila a few days ago for their separate fan meetings. Reminiscing the times when I can only go to filming locations to relive some of my favorite shows, ngayon we can actually see these actors in the flesh!

When I saw the simultaneous online updates on the arrival of Park Seo Joon and Jung Hae In at our airport, medyo nagwala ako hahaha! Screaming deep inside!

JUNG HAE IN

Jung Hae In just concluded his fan meet last night, and sadly I wasn't able to go na because I've been to his SarangHAE-IN Manila tour just last year

I've know Jung Hae In through While You Were Sleeping, and isa talaga yung role niya dun sa pinaka na-second lead syndrome ako!

One WYWS shooting location in Seoul is in Yeouido Hangang Park, where Woo-Tak (Jung Hae In) and his fellow policeman arrested a phone dealer. You can go here via Yeouinaru Station, Exit 3, and following this geo-location via your Google Maps: 37.523805, 126.939802.

I passed by the bridge while looking for the entrance to my cruise in the Han River, you'll know you're on the right place with its distinct colorful tiles design.

Speaking of WYWS, you'll know na sobrang favorite ko ang isang Kdrama pag sinasabuhay ko na (lol). Aside from going to its shooting locations, I also buy merch spotted in the drama -- from plushies to outfits! I bought my cap via Aegyo Korean Merchandise.

Jung Hae In starred in Something In The Rain, and although it's not on my top of the top Kdrama list--its OST is one of the best for me! I was able to go to the shooting location that you'll find in their poster, which is in Sejong Village Food Street. You can reach the area via Gyeongbokgung Station, Exit 1/2. Follow Google Maps to walk to the food street.

PARK SEO JOON

My visit to Busan wasn't supposed to be a Kdrama centred trip, but on my last day and feeling unaccomplished, I decided to navigate to a Fight For My Way location: Ae Ra and Dong Man's houses! It was a long hike to reach this place, and it was cold coz it's winter, but worth it ang efforts! Visit this shooting location in Busan via Jigegol Station Exit 2, and then follow this map with your phone: https://www.google.com/maps?daddr=35.136866,129.076102.

Lastly, and one of the riskier sites I went to for my Kdrama Pilgrimage, is the abandoned house featured in What's Wrong With Secretary Kim. True to the mood of the scenes shot here, sobrang scary and sad niya in real life.

Since abandoned area sya, pls take extra measures! Don't go there at night. Better if you have a friend with you when you visit. And prepare for a bit of a walk from the train station. To go, just get off Uijeongbu station, Exit 7. Then follow this on your Google Maps: 37.732257, 127.053169.

That's it for now! To those going to Park Seo Joon Bench Fun Meet, hope to see you!

Autumn in Hokkaido Travel Guide | 5-Day Itinerary + Tips

$
0
0

On my third time in Hokkaido, there is still so much to see and do.

What I like about this trip is that I was able to experience new things, and even new things from sites that I have already been to before but in a different season. I still find it amusing that any changes of the colors of leaves, a drop in temperature, or the appearance of rain or clouds changes a whole place in its entirety. It's always as if it's my first time! I will always be a fan of the magic of four seasons.

ARRIVAL

We arrived in Hokkaido via New Chitose Airport with Philippine Airlines. They have a direct flight from Manila, which is so convenient compared to my flight with Cea last year where we still had a layover in Narita. We slept in the plane, and landed in Japan in the morning an hour or two ahead of the other Thailand and Vietnam influencers also invited to the FAM tour. I was with Abi of Our Awesome Planet for Team Philippines. We had a quick breakfast in the airport Lawson while waiting for the rest.

5-DAY HOKKAIDO ITINERARY

Day 1

Chitose Lake / Lake Shikotsu
Lunch at Turuga Resort
Houheikyo Dam - For autumn leaves sighting
Kaiseki dinner at hotel

Our day 1 in Hokkaido was very rainy, but instead of dampening the mood, the group was actually excited to bring out their cameras and Japanese clear plastic umbrellas to enjoy the scenery in this overcast vibe. I actually liked it! Temperature was just right, or how Manileños describe as "Baguio Weather"--perfect for a day of autumn leaves sighting, Japanese foot bath, an outdoor light show at night, and a Japanese multi-course meal for dinner (with Sapporo Beer, of course).

Day 2

Sapporo Kokusai Ski Resort - Autumn leaves gondola
Jozankei Farm - Apple and Prunes Picking, Garden Stroll
Mitsui Outlet Park - shopping!
Church on the Water

In any travel, I always enjoy a mix of everything. The right balance of city and nature, food trip and shopping and walking, just a little and not too much! On our day 2, we had some sight seeing and fresh prunes and apple picking in the morning, a bit of outlet shopping in the afternoon, and later on checked in at one of the DREAM hotels you can ever stay in when in Hokkaido: Hoshino Resorts Tomamu! It's the hotel room where I had my own jacuzzi and sauna! What is life!?

Day 3

Unkai Terrace - Sea of Clouds
Lunch at Ferme La Terre
Blue Pond
Shikisai No Oka - Flower Fields
Log Hotel The Maplelodge Check-in and Dinner
Maplelodge campfire activity

Dubbed as our "favorite day", on our 3rd day in Hokkaido we've seen some of northern Japan's best of the best sights: a sea of clouds, a turquoise blue pond, and a huge field of sunflowers, lavenders, and other blooms! We were only half a day in and my eyes are already full! We also checked in a hotel that reminds me of my dream Muji room: simple wood and metal architecture, very chic!

Day 4

Apple Picking at Azumai Orchard
Housui Winery / Ice Cream
Iwamizawa Park Rose Garden
Pizzeria Lucci for Lunch (awarded best pizza, 2017, by Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana)
Kan Yasuda Sculpture Museum - Arte Piazza Bibai
Mercure Hotel in Susukino, Sapporo
Sapporo Ramen Yokocho for Dinner (Ramen Alley)
Sapporo View from Ferris Wheel
Shopping around Susukino!

Just outside our hotel, you can walk to an apple orchard and enjoy fresh, red apples straight from the tree! Day 4 is a nice mix of nature, food, and art while in Hokkaido. We went to a magical rose garden that showcased different blooms even when it is off-season, an outdoor art museum by a Japanese artist whose vision is for people to enjoy his sculptures and not just look at it, and finally--drove to the main city, Sapporo, for city lights, shopping, and a good bowl of Anthony Bourdain recommended ramen!

Day 5

Nijo Fish Market
Sushi Hanamaru Lunch (Mercure Hotel)
Shopping around Susukino
Check-in New Chitose Airport's transit hotel
Dinner
Shopping at Airport

On our last full day in Hokkaido, it felt like time just flew by! We made the most out of our stay in the city even though it was raining the whole day by going to a fish market, a zoo and indoor aquarium, and of course, shopping for families and friends waiting for us back home.

TIPS + BUDGET

Sharing some realizations from this trip that you might find valuable when you plan your own Hokkaido vacation:

1) Join group tours. You know that I will always prefer the freedom of DIY trips, but there are places like Jeju of Korea and Hokkaido of Japan that you'll best experience and maximize if you join tours since transportation and navigation will be the least of your worries. Btw, our whole trip was well-organized by JTB.

2) If you have international license, you can also rent a car so you can go around to more places swiftly and conveniently.

3) Get internet connection. Either buy a data sim or rent a pocket wifi so you can easily use your Google Maps, research on-the-spot, communicate with your group, or convert PHP to Yen.

4) If you want to go see the Unkai Terrace Sea of Clouds, for me it's best and more convenient to stay as a guest at Hoshino Resorts Tomamu. Shuttle and gondola are FREE for all guests, and it's easier to go to the site early in the morning if you're already in the area. You can watch our experience, and check out more details here:

5) Most stores accept Visa and MasterCard--even in the fish market! It is also very easy to withdraw money in Hokkaido or Japan in general. Just look for a 7Eleven convenience store, they usually have an international ATM inside. Charge for withdrawal is around Php 200, or you can just swipe your card when you shop. Since I use BDO debit MasterCard, I had to inform the cashier that my card is "checking" so it will work on their port.

6) Pack a variety of clothes. Since autumn weather is unpredictable, and temperature varies from area to area, be prepared with different coats, layers, and even rain gears. Most of the time, a sweater or a light jacket will do. Bring a headgear for the sudden cold and the rain. But on higher places like the Unkai or when taking a gondola to the mountains, it is best if you have a puffer jacket with you too.

7) Lastly, iponing is key (saving is key)! I still can't think of a way to make a budget-friendly Hokkaido trip, but it will be best to go here when you're already prepared for the expenses to fully enjoy the activities.

Some sights don't have entrance fees like the flower fields and the Blue Pond, but you will still need a budget to book tours or ride the buses to get there. I'd say, for the whole trip with airfare, all the hotels, the tours (transportation and entrance fees), meals, and a bit of shopping, estimate budget for our 5 days in Hokkaido is around PHP 180k-200,000. Much like my 20-Day Euro trip! A bit steep on the pocket, but definitely worth it!

Aside from the new experiences, the beautiful places we saw, and the good food we had, I am also thankful for the nicest people from all over the world that I met because of this trip. One night on our stay at the Maplelodge, we had outdoor games and hot coffee by the bonfire--starry sky above our heads--and everyone's just laughing over crazy stuff like dares, burnt marshmallows, sparklers, and forced singing haha! I went back to my room with heart bursting with joy coz it's true. Travel is not just the places you see, but the experiences you gained that you can say is uniquely yours.

Thank you very much--domo arigatou gozaimasu--Hokkaido authorities, JTB, Genki Itani, Hino San, Seino San, and my new friends Abi, Loi, Ngân, Butter, and Chau for making this trip the best that it could ever be! ❤ It might be impossible, but it will be my dream to travel Japan with you guys again.

The Magic of Germany in the Winter

Are you thinking about visiting Germany this year?

It’s is a beautiful place to visit during any time of year, but winter is thought to be Germany’s most magical season. The temperature stays pretty comfortable, but the mountains and forests are covered in a blanket of pure, white snow.

If you enjoy sledding, snowshoeing, skiing, or hiking in breathtaking outdoor spaces, Germany in winter should definitely be on your bucket list. From early November until the end of December, all of the little towns, hamlets, and even the big cities are covered in Christmas lights.

Lifesize nativity scenes are everywhere, and roadside vendors offering everything from locally made crafts to hot mulled wine. This country loves Christmas markets, and you’ll find dozens of them to visit during your stay.

So, are you ready for an unforgettable getaway to Germany this winter? If you need a visa, look into scheduling consulate of Germany visa appointments in a city near you. It’s even possible to book an appointment on short notice if your trip is last minute! Let’s take a look at the most beautiful places to see in Germany during the winter to help you plan your visit.

Dresden

The city of Dresden sits on the banks of the Elbe river. It’s famous for its dramatic resurrection after being severely damaged during the fighting in World War II. The city now resonates with dazzling beauty, but its rise from the ashes remains tangible.

In wintertime, Dresden comes to life with stalls selling hot mulled wine, ice skating, and festive Christmas markets. The main market is held in the towering old town square and is recognized as the oldest Christmas market in the entire country. It’s rebuilt from the ground up every winter season and has an appearance that’s more like a tiny village than a temporary market.

Although there are many markets spread throughout the area, another favorite is the Medieval Market. It’s held in the courtyard at Stallhoff, which is used for jousting tournaments at other times of the year. The vendors at this market wear traditional, medieval garb and serve food from that era, often cooked over an open fire.

You’ll find sweet hot whiskey brews, honey mead, and glühwein (hot spiced wine) being served throughout the Medieval market. If you’re up for it, you try your hand with a bow and arrow or take a soak in one of the wooden barrel hot tubs… as long as you’re not too modest!

Kreuzberg

Kreuzberg is absolutely stunning mid-winter. It’s like a winter wonderland, and it’s the perfect setting for romantic walks in the snow. After you take in the incredible scenery, you can head to the cozy, warm monastery where lunch and a mug of beer are both delicious and affordable.

Kreuzberg monastery has been making and serving incredible beer for centuries. And, the onsite café offers typical German fare to go along with it. Kreuzberg is the perfect place for sledding in winter, but it also offers fantastic hiking in summer if that’s more your speed.

Cochem

Cochem sits right on the Moselle River, halfway between Frankfurt, Cologne, and Trier. No matter what time of year you visit Germany, be sure to put this medieval town on your itinerary. It’s an especially lovely stop in winter when there’s a dusting of snow and beautiful Christmas decorations in every window.

The winding streets of Cochem are adorned with Germany’s iconic half-timbered houses. You’ll also find a quaint Christmas market in the weeks leading up to the holiday. There’s even a festive little Christmas train that makes its rounds through the town.

Of course, you’ll want to visit all the lovely shops and roadside stalls for mementos and gifts before you head into one of the local restaurants for a cozy meal by a roaring fireplace. There’s even a stunning hilltop castle with a guided tour that’s absolutely wonderful.

The views of the river and the town from the castle are simply breathtaking! But, if you want to see even more stunning views, be sure to take the chairlift to the lookout point on the hill opposite to the castle.

Munich

Even though Munich is most often associated with Oktoberfest and beer halls, it’s also a lovely place to visit in the wintertime. Wander the streets and pop in and out of museums to stay warm and visit the Munich Residenz to see the gloriously lavish holiday décor at the Palace.

Don’t miss the stunning glow in Kings Square as the sun goes down. You can ice skate (or just watch the skaters) in front of Nymphenburg Palace, then head out back to the dormant gardens for a snowball fight before you pop inside for a beer.

Although Munich is a beautiful city all year long, it’s especially memorable when it’s covered in snow. The city is quieter in wintertime, too, which is more pleasant for a relaxing visit. There’s still lots to do, and most places are easy to walk to.

If it’s too cold for walking, there’s a bus and a train that will get you where you want to go in comfort. Since it’s so quiet, you can enjoy the sites more. You might even feel like you’re the only ones around at times.

Heidelberg

Heidelberg is known to be one of the most beautiful cities in Germany, and it’s also one of the most romantic. Wintertime is exceptionally beautiful because the city is nestled into a lovely scenic spot right on the Neckar River, in between two mountains.

If you visit Heidelberg, be sure to take a romantic walk along its cobbled and colorful alleyways. Or, stroll the river’s edge and look at the pastel roofed buildings across the river. Sadly, much of Germany was destroyed during World War II, but Heidelberg still has much of its late Medieval and early Renaissance architecture intact, which adds even more to its romantic charm.

The undisputed main attraction in Heidelberg is the historical, legendary, and picturesque castle that sits high above the oldest parts of town. You can look up at it from the Christmas markets as you shop down below. There are plenty of romantic cafes where you can warm up from your adventures too.

Conclusion

If you are thinking about vacationing in Germany, consider a wintertime visit. Between the snow, the mountains, the cozy cafes, and the Christmas markets, it truly is magical. And, you’ll find that with the abundance of public transportation and well-maintained roads, it’s easy to get wherever you want to go.

Why Travel In Hokkaido During Autumn? | My 8 Favorite Hokkaido Autumn Sites and Activities

$

Hokkaido is more known as a travel destination during winter season (December to February). For Filipinos, we visit the northern side of Japan to experience the thickest snow, wear our heaviest coats, and participate in snow activities like skiing, snowboarding, and even just to create a snowman and snow angel! 😁

The second popular seasons to visit Hokkaido is Spring-Summer, where you can see fields of flowers in full bloom either in Furano or Biei. Fall is often the least traveled months as people opt to go to main cities like Tokyo or Osaka.

Now, why travel in Hokkaido during Autumn?

1) The trees are on fire! You'll get a better view of autumn sceneries in Hokkaido, compared to usual Japan tourist spots.

2) Perfect weather! It is easier to go around outdoors compared to when you visit during winter. I cannot imagine going to the Unkai Terrace during winter, when grounds are slippery and temperature reaches below zero!

3) Less crowded! Since there are lesser tourists compared to winter--going to Hokkaido during October to November will give you better deals, and lower prices in hotels and airfares since it's off-peak.

4) Lighter luggage! You get to pack lighter compared to winter because you won't need a lot of heavy coats. Also, this means more room for shopping!

5) Colors everywhere! Winter is lovely, but I was able to experience a place in it's true color when I went back to them during autumn. This includes the Blue Pond and the fields of flowers in Bibai--all frozen and gloomy when I last went there early winter.

Meanwhile, sharing the top 8 spots that I enjoyed during our recent trip.

My 8 Favorite Autumn Activities and Spots in Hokkaido:

1) Kokoro no sato JOZAN foot bath - perfect with the cool weather and after a series of walks.

2) Jozankei Farm - Pick and eat fresh apple and prunes straight from the tree, stroll around the beautiful vast garden.

3) Jozankei Nature Luminarie - A unique outdoor light show! I love the play of lights and dramatic music, and seeing rivers and trees illuminated at a distance.

4) Unkai Terrace - My favorite activity from this trip: Seeing the sea of clouds!

5) Blue Pond - Better view compared to last winter. I love the reflection of autumn trees on the aqua blue pond.

6) Shikisai No Oka - Very picturesque flower fields that we weren't able to witness during winter! Everything's beautiful, like how you see them in photos!

7) Log Hotel The Maplelodge Campfire - Super fun bonding activity with the whole group just outside our hotel! We had games, sprinklers, boiled apples, marshmallows, and hot coffee! One of the memorable nights during our trip.

8) Kan Yasuda Sculpture Museum - Arte Piazza - The perfect balance to our itinerary: to see Japanese art and even meet the international acclaimed artist! Sir Kan Yasuda's concept of art is to enjoy them and not just to look at them.

Are you considering an autumn trip soon? I am sure you'll love it as much as I do!

"Winter is an etching, spring a watercolor, summer an oil painting and autumn a mosaic of them all.

Meeting Van Gogh During My Travels + Van Gogh Alive is Coming To Manila!

People may have different opinions when it comes to art, but I guess that is what art is all about anyway, right?

As for me, I really enjoy seeing a piece of artwork in its different forms, not only the real thing. This also goes for the art that has been really close to my heart since my high school days (year 2000 to 2003, lol I'm old!). Like rereading The Little Prince or The Giving Tree in different phases of my life, my interpretation of Vincent Van Gogh's Starry Night changes through time, and evolves along with my experiences.

I like the thought that a painting moves me. It is definitely the classic masterpiece and artist that I can say I have a special connection to. Maybe Van Gogh's pains, frustrations, and struggles in life are relatable till now. Or maybe it's my first exposure to oil painting when I was young, the embossed colors and the strokes that created the never-ending swirls were captivating.

Anyway, when I heard that Van Gogh Alive is coming to Manila, I couldn't believe it myself! I used to think I have to wait till I get to go to nearby South East Asian countries to see this installation. Sa Facebook videos palang, I find it really magical to see not only Starry Night, but also Café Terrace at Night, Irises, Almond Blossoms and other Van Gogh paintings in a cool multi-sensory, light show interpretation (of course I haven't been to one so I am not sure if these paintings are included hehe).

The exhibit will only be till December 8 of this year, so I'll definitely book my ticket at the Mind Museum in BGC soonest coz medyo nahihirapan ako with online ticket option!

Ending this post by sharing some of the Van Gogh related attractions I've been to in my travels. I really make sure to make a stop at these sites during my trips, and if I have spare cash, I also get a souvenir or two of (again) "the painting that is closest to my heart". ❤

December 2013, Getty Museum, LA

Irises!! This is my first time to see an original Van Gogh painting!

January 2014, Museum of Modern Art, New York City

Starry Night! ❤ My heart did not only skipped a bit! I think it leaped out and back to give me second chance in life, haha!

December 2016, Van Gogh Inside, Jejudo South Korea

This is an emotional museum trip for me, on my very first solo travel ever! I wasn't expecting an exhibit like this during my visit, so I guess it was all meant to be!

Ang ganda pa ng souvenir shop nila!

I think I teared up a little after seeing this show:

April 2019, L'Atelier Theme Park, Seoul South Korea

My recent Van Gogh exposure! This is also a very beautiful museum to visit, aside from seeing the painting, they even have several play productions about Van Gogh's life (in Korean nga lang, but they have an app that you can listen to on your earphones while simultaneously watching).

A room where you can color some Van Gogh paintings:

This is one of the stages for the play prod. Of course, no videos and photos allowed during the show.

Another amazing thing about this place is that they recreated Van Gogh's paintings for their actual museum cafes!!!

And even have an interpretation of Van Gogh's bedroom!

My Other Favorite Van Gogh Interpretations:

Starry Night x Coldplay's Fly On

Don Mclean's Vincent

Starry Night Dogs series by Aja Trier

On my Van Gogh Wishlist: Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, Tulip Festival, attend a Sip and Gogh class, and go to Van Gogh Alive. :)
